The excitement of a 1 point win!!
deanox replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
serious? thats awesome. i should have stayed with you after half time! i cant believe miller took those contested marks today, it was fantastic. i also cant believe how long that last quarter went for. what a joke. nearly 34 minutes? -
i thought it was jamar best game for the club today. beat charman quite well. i thought his efforts around the stoppages were fantastic where he used his body very effectively with second efforts. his kicking is average at best, but today i thought his use of handball was reasonable considering most of the time he got it he was in the clinches. apart from the oof i thought he had a pretty good game.

very interesting how half of this thread sees us as tanking, and half looks at the team and thinks we will win. personally i think white has had a poor seaswon, has not been effective at the ruck and has gathered a lot of useless possessions around the ground, and often not used the ball well, or simply been so indecisive he has held us right up. it will be interesting to see how jamar goes. i dont think we'll win - but i dont think us winning or losing will be a result of who is rucking for us. i will be interesting to see how effective jamar is at the rucks using his body, and if he can get any possessions with some more game time. jamar looks to get more possies when he is allowed to lead at the ball, than when he is standing around or running past. perhaps we need to try and utilise him in those sorts of roles, pushing up the ground to the wing to get possies allowing bate and miller to stay a litte closer to goal?

you would assume that demons a satans minnions which would mean that they must acknowledge that god exists even if they dont follow him. satan worshippers believe in god, they just believe that this world is more important than the next (or a variation on this theme such as there is no next world, or that god is really trying to trick people into wasting their lives etc if they believe in the antichrist they must also believe in the christ)...

Apocalypse, I figured these out for you, but was reading multiple threads at once and posted it in the wrong thread... with white and mcdonald gone, our average games played by this weeks team drops to 57.5 while the average age is 23 and 2 months. with wheelan, miller, wheatly, green and bruce being our only 100+ gamers. and only 3 (mclean, davey and jamar) who have played more than 50 games. that means 14 of our players have played under 50 games. i wonder when the last time we fielded a side without a 200 gamer was? also i noticed its a bit scary that jamar is the 8th most experienced player (in games) in the mfc line up tomorrow. and that 14 of our players will be 23 or under.
-
interesting there are 12 mfc players named, even if most of them are on the bench. i have a hunch that the 12 named will play and that some sandy players will be dropped from the 18. do we have a reserves team?

personally i think white has had a very poor season, especially by his standards. he is one of those players where the stats are deceiving. out of interest, with white and mcdonald gone, our average games played by this weeks team drops to 57.5 while the average age is 23 and 2 months. with wheelan, miller, wheatly, green and bruce being our only 100+ gamers. and only 3 (mclean, davey and jamar) who have played more than 50 games. that means 14 of our players have played under 50 games. i wonder when the last time we fielded a side without a 200 gamer was? also i noticed its a bit scary that jamar is the 8th most experienced player (in games) in the mfc line up tomorrow. and that 14 of our players will be 23 or under.

thats definitely an option jarka. my concerns with that are that his height makes him very valuable as a KPP if he can develop as one, and that im not sure he will be able to play that running rebounding role such as CJ, wheatly, and co are doing (both around the 190 mark) and previously down by a few shorter players. i think if he bulks up a bit his closing speed will be a great asset when stopping full forwards on the mark. either way i think he is a good prospect medium to long term, and i cnat wait to see him develop. perhaps his position will be determined by how much weight he puts on. if he stays around the 90kg mark he might have to develop into the role you've suggested, but if he gets to that 95kg mark he might slot in as a FB.

i feel that miller has played good games at CHF, but rarely kicked more than 1 when he played in that position. I havnt got stats to back it up, but the games where he has kicked 3 goals have been when we have no full forward and he has found himself leading out from FF for whatever reason. It may be because bate marked it across CHF allowing miller to get back, but miller kicks more goals when allowed to drop into the FF position (if not role). RE Bate I think he is a natural runner with height. I think he will be suited to anywhere - midfield, HFF or even closer to goal. I dont think he will spend long periods of time at FF but i do think he could become a pavlich type player. he kicked four on the weekend, but how many did he kick from CHF? he kicked a couple when leading out from FF also. One thing I have observed is that no matter who is in our forward line atm, if the ball is lobbed up to a pack, or even to a 1 on 1 contest, i never have any faith that we will take a mark. we need a player who can take contested grabs when at a standstill-not on a lead. if bate can develop that, i would be very tempted to use him at FF more often, even if that deprives us of some of his other strengths.

some great ideas, and this one might have the most merit. lets offer to do some ads for our sponsers. you rarely or never saw mfc players in ads for LG or iprimus or other sponsors, except perhaps for printed ads in mfc publicatinos. why dont we look to fidn sponsors who are also going to pay to advertise in other sources and try to gain exposure through that way. ie TAC with the filth.

i think frawley will come good. but i think he is a backman who will benefit greatly from 3-4 years in the system so that he can get his body strength up. garland, i think has come good partly because of the roles they have used him in. he has been allowed to use his strengths (specifically his closing speed) to play in his most suited role, rather than trying to play him on strong opponents or in a different position because of his smaller body. i think frawley will eventually play on the stronger forwards in a full back role but obviously this position needs development. every game he gets at the moment is an absolute bonus for his development. frawley is currently listed as 19 years and 9 months, at 193cm and 88kg's. it is only half way through his second season but he already has 17 games experience. when he has played 3-4 seasons he should have 40-50 games under his belt, maybe more and will be really hitting his straps. out of interest, these players are the only players on the list younger than Frawley: McNamara, Maric, Morton, Spencer®, Cheney, Grimes, Weetra and Wonaeamirri ®. out of interest, frawley is the same weight as brock mclean, and moloney, and lighter than daniel bell.

can you elaborate dappa? i didnt hear the comments and havnt seen anything about them ?
-
no one would argue, not even dean. doesnt an article a few pages later indicate the leadership group was changed this week?
-
good post in general but i question this part. they are more valuable up the field? they kick less goals up there and atm the one thing we really need is goal kickers isnt it?
-
so he is shorter than cale morton or the same height? i like bate, but from what ive seen he isnt strong enough over head, or marking in packs to be a true CHF. how do you think his strength is when trying to mark body on body? he can lead and mark well, can kick well on the run, has a great motor etc, but he isnt a true CHF.
-
he is named in the forward pocket, but i agree about them grooming him into a backmen at sandy. b59 makes a good point about us not having as much control as we'd like, but you'd think we'd have some input. if he is to play as a backman you would think there would be no chance carrol would come in. however ,artin could be used up forward given we pretty much have aussie at full forward...

i wasnt at the game, my comments are from the tv only. but i didnt think warnock was that bad. i thought he was burnt on the elad a couple of times, but most of the time it was probably the fault of the midfield for standing around watching a player kick from 55-60m rather than pushing hard into the space between the player with the ball and the full forward. he was allowed to lead into space at will, no pressure the other way. at fault: warnock did try to play the man too much imo and once the ball was kicked just concentrate on punching the ball rather than out bodying hall.

nasher you have summed up my wants perfectly. i wouldnt be unhappy if jamar was to play for white. i dont rate jamar, and dont think he is a long term prospect. but i would be happy for him to have a crack without white. and i think white probably needs a rest. and i concour wholeheartedly with your sentiments around buckley. i like what i see with buckley, but he obviously has a lot to learn, he was good in that role last week for sandy, lets see him do it again.

without knowing the full details, would the scotch school boys team not be the first 'team' to play the game, while the MFC be the first 'club' as it was an actual formation of a club, not just a group of school kids playing sport? and out of interest, i am pretty sure that 4 members of the mfc sat down and wrote out the first set of rules. it would be pretty hard for and other teams to play before the rules were written out wouldnt it?
-
did you read my post above? i explained what the effect of heritage listing could have on the club. you seem to have missed it.
-
i see what you mean, but the article does say that the conference is a forum for discussion of 'intangible' herritage listing. similar to interlectual property rights and other intangible notions, the mfc must exist as the mfc for all time. that means the mfc cannot become the gold coast demons, or the melbourne koalas. it must be red and blue. one could start new teams with these names, and one could still disolve the mfc into nothing if the club had no members and no money, and the afl revoked the licence. but the advantage would be, even if the club 'moved' or 'merged' the mfc would have to remain, and the new club would be a new entity entirely, even though mfc people might move to the new club. that means we would still exist, and probably have an opportunity to compete at vfl level if the members were to vote for a board that went down that path, rather than the fitzroy path of the club becoming a strange part of brisbanes 'history'. at least sydney is the one club... the downside is, if we went broke, we might have to repay debts before we could continue. does anyone know who has liability at the club if it simply goes bankrupt? the members? the board? the afl?

Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!
deanox replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
we need a genuine, contested marking, goal kicking, KPF, most of all. we dont have one of those. we have 6 ruckmen, even if they are old or not quite up to it. but we dont have a forward. we have a pile of possible mids, even if they are not all world class. but we dont have a forward.
