  1. VLAD - I'm too sexy for my shirt ok i know his not on our list but hey...
  2. in a way it might be a good thing that he 'tore' some muscles rather than just aggrevated some more injuries. it is forcing him to sit around and do absolutely nothing while they heal. he is also seeing a specialist in the region of the op stuff so hopefully he is making sure everything is right to go. it looks like he is having a forced 3-4 month lay off which should be good for his recovery. i wonder if the time in SA will affect his 'go home' switch in anyway? it could reignite the latent want to return home, or it could satisfy the craving to spend more time back home...
  3. maybe not good depth, but we seem to have a numbers. and most of them young and still developing. in previous years we have had neitz and robbo (and miller) forward, and rivers and carrol back. when these players went down we had to bring in ben holland to plug holes. and we struggled with players like bizzel in KP roles at times.
  4. what i was saying is that to some extent playing and winning finals is as much about talent as it is about doing the right things off field, and playing for each other. obviously you can muck up off field and still play well on field, but in these cases, the teams still play for each other and have the 'team mentality' on field. missing sessions and jepodising your performance on the match day isnt a team thing, and would affect our chances of actually playing finals. ie instilling the right culture will o a long way to helping us make and win finals.
  5. ouyt of interest, if we pick up watts and other players stay injury free (or recover) we potentially have: bate, miller, robbo, newton and watts as potential KPF's and garland, warnock, frawley, rivers, carrol, martin as potential KPD's. I am not saying that all these players are great players, nor that all these players will make it, or that all will play. BUT it is interesting that we have talls in the wings competing for a spot, a position we havnt been in for a while...
  6. thats what i was worried about. unless he is going to guarantee possession with his ruck work i think id rather a key forward myself... i think it is more important to have good mids than a good ruck also...
  7. this is the most important part for me. can he tap the ball to advatange enough that he becomes a clear advantage over other sides? is he able to use his leap to clearly win the ball and tap it down players throats, allowing the mids to get clearances? if yes, then i am very keen on him. but if he is just another (super) athletic ruckman who doesnt have any real effect on where the ball is going (like most of the ruckmen going around now) well im not sure an athletic ruckman is what we need... it would be interesting to see how his physical attributes translate to playing afl against the elite players who are bigger stronger and jump higher than you're average tac player...
  8. good to hear from you ash, its been a quiet season from you?
  9. his game on bradshaw was nothing short of marvellous. in recent times bradshaw has consistantly torn us a new one. he kicks goals every time we play them. against brisbane, bradshaw got one goal that i thought he deserved, a good lead and mark in the last quarter i believe. other than that he got two soft goals from free kicks. i thought it was one of his best blanketing performances to date.
  10. there is no correlation between success and those figures. but thatsw simply because those figures indicate the number of nominations in the past 4 years. that means, that it could only be 5 years since even the first nominated player could have made their debut putting them at around the 23 mark (assuming they debuted at 18). in another 4 years, we will have 11 players aged between 22 and 27 who have been nominated for the award. that will be when they are hitting their straps, if they continue to play well. it will be interesting to see how that list compares to the ladder in 4 years. it would be also interesting if we could see a list from 2000-2004. before to long indicates geelong and hawthorn were up there. i wonder if the doggies had a few aswell? if someone knew where to get that information and was willing to do it thatd be great.
  11. according to the card it has been 9 years. but me and my dad are sure that it has been longer - perhaps another 4 years. not sure why it says that. perhaps it was a transitition from child membership to adult/concession membership?
  12. but perhaps the suggestion is that if we were in a position to play finals we wouldnt be having this sort of problems with offfield behaviour and culture? hopefully they are attempting to instill a new culture around the place that will see the players professional in their approach on and off the field. and hopefully this will have a flow on effect for on field results.
  13. yeah i realise that. but he hasnt played a full season yet and everyone is ear marking him as a 10 year KPD and a future AA. just remember he has played 13 games. daniel bell had played more games, and came with more wraps on him than col did when he burst into form last year. this he he has struggled, even though he has played almost every week and people are calling for his head. when he has carried the form for 2-3 years we can start being true believers. up until then there is as much chance of a player going bad as there is of a player going good despite what they have shown in 3 months of football.
  14. funny that. garland has still only played 13 games...
  15. our social club is at the punt road end every home game, not just when we play collingwood...
  16. yeah i know but damn that made me laugh.
  17. deeluded is right. we need to change the culture of this footy club, and it seems the players realise this and are taking it in hand themselves. let the team play for each other, not as individuals. if you dont want to follow the team rules you dont get to play, it doesnt matter how talented you are. steve johnson is very talented, but he had to be committed before he was any use to geelong.
  18. i agree with what you are saying - he has been doing a fantastic job, and possibly he is doing the hardest job out of anyone who has been nominated but a couple of things go against him. firstly defenders do not get looked on favourably in these sort of awards. generally it is a flashy midfielder or a star forward. almost always it is someone who stands out with blonde hair or big muscles lol something that makes them different. the exceptions to these are those who stand out and are visible. rivers won, but he was seen drifting in front of opposition players, making big spoils, taking big marks. col goes quietly about his job, and gets it done solidly, no frills. also, it is almost always associated with where the players were rated before the season also. kruezer, palmer and co will all probably feature highly while not all of them deserve too, it is because they are the big recognizable names.
  19. you might have after his first couple of games where he looked a little lost at sea but the way he has come on has been a revelation. hope he keeps the form up.
  20. while im not saying it wont happen, why would we bring in another crumbing forward when we dont have a tall up there?
  21. well has anyone heard any score updates or had any word of the game? i hanvt been following it myself but would love to know whats going on out there...
  22. im not sure if you need to BUMP a sticky thread...
  23. you're not backing a winner with this argument sylv. jolly wanted to go. we didnt have a choice. white was a much better ruckman. if it wasn't for the centre circle, white would have always been a much better ruckman. and i still think the fact that jolly is rated highly by people really just demonstrates how poor the quality of ruckmen and of how little importance a ruckman is these days. in fact consider we got jolly off the rookie list, traded him for pick 15 (dunn) wowey was the best trade the mfc has ever made. they made a big call on a favourite son, and did what was right for the club (and got daniel bell for him). pity hey didnt trade yze around the same time and white a year or two later... and TJ? how can you possibly think that will come back to bite us? he has an amazing skill set and could do anything. i even have his (read grimesys) number on my back, but that was a great call to trade him. he didnt perform at the mfc, he wasnt going to win us a premiership, he wasnt going to be around when we next were going to challange for finals. he contributed to our poor off field culture. he was a chronic under performer. and for all that we got a first round pick? mfc 1 - bris 0 in that trade im afraid.
  24. nup. for him to come in one of rivers, frawley or carrol need to force their way in. our talls down back are garland and warnock, neither are very tall or very strong. martin has height and weight on his side, making him an option for taller (read ruckmen) forwards, and even an option if one of the others is struggling physically. he also offers an option up forward if we decide to swing him that way, but it looks like we're keen to keep him down back atm.
