you got in first, so we'll run with this thread it seems to be like for like doesnt it? not unhappy with garland, dissapointed about frawley. pj for white was obvious. maric, im not sure, he had done enough, seen nough, perhaps vce is more important? yze is the obvious replacement. dunn was always going to come back, i cant really remember valentis game last week...
-
so we are expecting the kids to be showing loyalty? no wonder we've only signed one...
-
yeah sorry you're right. i hadnt read the thread in the drafting trading board yet, just the one on the main board.
-
i think garland is actually more likely to win best first year player. i know he is not strictly a first year player, but what is the criteria for that? normally most improved goes to someone who played a few games then had a much better year. and rarely would it go to a player like green who has been around forever.
-
out of interest rhino, you are saying we should have made the hard calls years ago, which i agree with, but i havnt read anything from you RE brad green. what are your takes on trading him now while he has value? perhaps it would make more sense for you to add them in the green thread so we dont hijack this one, but i was keen to hear from you. i might have simply missed you, but you have been strangely silent on this one.

Simon Buckley is a gun - must get a Rising Star nomination
deanox replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
i thought saturday was one of his best days. yeah he tried to step around players and run, but i didnt think he did it as often as he has in previous weeks, and often took the better option. i thought his disposal has improved as well, no more blazing away hoping to hit something, and better thought out kicks. if he keeps improving he will be a real player. he has pace and height, he can step around players. he knows where to get the ball, as evidenced by his disposal count each week. i think the biggest challenge for him over the preseason is improving his disposal. he can kick it 55m, lets see the 55m kicks hit targets. he should be able to nail goals on the run from 50 also. -
would you have preferred we kept ward, and bizzel, and godfrey, and nicho and then play holland and yze every week? we could have also traded all our picks to try and get players from opposition. well we were never going to get judd, but we could've traded pick 4 to get someone. and maybe this year we could trade pick one for brown. is that what you want us to do? we might be more competetive, but we'd be going backwards fast. and thats the only on-field alternative.

im sure no one cares what meesan thinks about whether warnock comes or not. if you cant play well for sandy you dont have a say in the matter.
-
i would put money on the fact that neither will be at the mfc next year. if that is the mfc's decision we will do the right thing and offer them a spot at other clubs. in that case we will offer a swap of draft picks in similar scenarior to what we did with peter walsh a few years ago. that is if we have declared we dont want them and no club comes looking. if a club comes looking they might try and get something. i could see a club using white as a top up ruckman if a) they have no one or b ) they are in premiership mode. but he isnt a premiership ruckman. he wont dominate the play, he wont assert his body on the contest. he is back up experience at est these days. and no one will pay much for him.
-
i dont know exactly, but i thought once you were signed you were signed, unless the club decided to break it off.
-
probably indicates how down on form and confidence he is, considering that last year his spoiling was his best asset. although i cant say ive noticed it. who did he play on on saturday?
-
id trade him for a top 20 pick. he wont be around for our next shot at it. bruce, robbo, wheatly, wheelan, mdonald, rivers, miller, davey, will all be on the list with experience. the later two are a bit younger but have been around for a bit. im not sure if i missed anyone. he is a good solid player who has been one of our best, and i will give him one thing, a lot of courage and willing to go with the flight of it, however he generally plays a loose man or as a medium forward. he is not exactly playing an important posi on the field and probably wont be missed that much. he also doesnt stand up every week. he does go missing at times. if he was someone who stood up and had a great game week in week out you would keep him. but he yo-yos like the rest of them (although credit again, he has a more consistant season than most or han in the past).
-
jamar will miss out on a game with the dees if PJ and warnock are fit and playing. he will still be on the list.
-
if ppl wanted to hurt players they could do that any day. its not like the are the pope or george bush. doing it on the mcg just means you are guaranteed to get caught.
-
but the chances of the draft continuing as is for ever are pretty low, so theoretically it could be the best ever lol
-
it is good to see how proactive we have been re warnock. not something you associate with the dees in the past.
-
of course supporters shouldnt be allowed to run onto the field. thats not to say they wont, or that i discourage it. but if you say 'supporters are allowed onto the field mid game' then there are all sorts of problems. franklin should get it. he misses easy ones at the best of times, but will lift when he realises he needs to kick the goals or miss out.
-
he is good around the ground. and average in the ruck. the reason he still would get a game, even if warnock comes to the club, is that he is a beautiful kick. he is a chance from anywhere within 50. and his kicking to the forwards is spot on. that makes him dangerous around the ground, rather than just handy. if he can improve his ruckwork even 10-20% he could become a top line player, and amongst the best rucks in the comp. he needs to be able to reak even against the big guns in the ruck, because he is better than most around the ground. at this stage, i honestly believe that it will be jamar to miss out if warnock comes across, even though he is the better ruckman.

our disposal was much better yesterday in general, than most of the season. yes teams like geelong and the hawks are highly skilled BUT i think any team that is gettting smashed and low on confidence mis targets and look second rate, while a team that is up and flying hits all the targets. maybe its a mental thing for the players? but while there is obviously a difference between top and bottom, at afl level there should not be that great a difference in the fundamental skills. regarding brad millers kicking for goal, you wouldnt think kicking for goal would fall in the same category as above. however i have noticed the times that miller has kicked the best have probably games when we were playing well so...
-
i wish he could kick like that in the other 21 weeks though. however his kicking has improved out of sight this year. if he wants to be a successful forward he needs to be able to back himself whenever he takes a mark in the 50.
-
maric doesnt seem to do anything flashy. but he gets it done, and gets it right almost every time. he gets the ball and makes quick smart decisions and executes them. he doesnt fluff around, or hang onto the ball. and when he disposes of it, we invariably keep possession. as he gets more confidence i think we will see him do some very nice things. i thought it was one of buckleys better games in that he didnt always try and do it all himself. previous weeks he has tried to take on everyone, today he was prepared to kick it earlier, or give off to a player in a better possie. his disposal seemed improved on previous weeks. i think he was probably originally told 'get out there and back yourself, use your strengths, run around people' etc, now they are probably telling him 'keep doing that, but only if it is the smart option. hopefully he continues to improve.

very harsh on newton. 7 amrks. 2.2 (our highest scorer and ben mckinley kicked 2.3 the only player to kick more). he led all dayy. he always chased and tackled (4 effective tackles). at least 1 tackle resulted in a shot on goal. other tackles resulted in pressure on the ball carrier, and poor disposal. he contested marks and was active all day. describing him as a cameo really indicates you werent watching the game.
-
are you sure he played forward? i always thought he was a defender, but i thought he played in the country somewhere and had never had a proper 'coach' until he came to melbourne.
-
i loved travis but watch a brisbane game and compare TJ's disposal to simon blacks. compare TJ to judd or kerr when kicking to the forwards. watch ablett do it. TJ could do some amazing things, TJ had great time and could always find an option, but he wasnt in that league wen kicking to a leading forward imo, not consistantly, and he often tried to do too much. an 18 yo simon black would be nice

g smith, making cricket related comments... do the dees have a following over in SA?
