Casey Scorpions v Werribee Tigers - colours & squads
deanox replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
newton 'kicks' his second. came off his a pack, onto his thigh, but he claimed it anyway. miller lining up for another shot at goal. misses one from 40 out at most. kick out straight to petterd who passes it short back to jetta for an easy goal (his 3rd). -

i had the tv turned off on me half way through the 3rd quarter, so any other details would be great. jaded, looking at you if you're not studying instead. -

the jumpers are average at best. i have no problem with the pink, but the red trim around the neck and sleeves is a disgrace. pink and red on the same jumper? -

should be more, they've been wasteful. notice is on to robbo and bate. jurrah is looking good and a poor match from either could see an easy straight swap. i think jurrah probably plays a similar game to robbo (ie not true KP but can drift around) but perhaps with a more rounded game, and not as strong contested marking. will be interesting to see what he becomes. kicked a lovely goal from 50 into the wind, but did miss an easier one from closer. newton could demand a spot as well, especially if he kicks a couple more. he was presenting well, won a free when chasing down a player, put great pressure on. kicked his goal from a goo contested pack mark in the square. need to see a 4 quarter effort, and needs to finish with more goals than points. newton 9kicks 6 marks 1.2 mckenzie lots of touches. missed the numbers. jurrah the scorpions only multiple goal scorer. -

has valenti been upgraded or is he still rookie listed? i imagine that at least 1 emergency has to sit out todays match for monday. whether that means late change or not, but anything could happen today or tomorrow, or in the warm up. cheney makes more sense than newton, who would only come in for watts, robbo or bate, or dunn, who was dropped due to form. that being said, dunn has been in it alot. lots of touches i think, disposal has been both, either very nice, or missed the target. but his run is good, and looks to always be in good positions. -

body on the line for spencer. hip to the head while diving on it. was very wobbly after he kicked it, is going straight off. edit: quote commentators "spencer looking like andrew symonds at 3 oclock in the morning." -

did anyone see the free that dunn got for head high on the ground? he deserved the free kick for the high contact, but i don't think he deserved a free kick against him for the late tackle in the first place. the werribee player just threw the ball out wen he was tackled. ps jurrah is dominating this uarter, two more shots at goal in the last 30 seconds for a return of 3.2. he kicked 3 last week, must be close to a call up. edit stats: 6 kicks 2 andballs, 3 marks from jurrah. -

the side ways agility of jurrah in traffic then was phenomenal. no one could get it and he pulled that out. the handball showed fantastic composure, vision and excellent skills. newtons pass to miller was pretty good also. ive only seen a bit, but newton is playing well, chases hard, looks more at home across half forward than ive seen him. wheatly is stuggling a bit, getting the ball, but not sing it well. -
if watts kicks 4.2, there is no chance he will e left on the bench for nearly half the game...

article has been changed from earlier. reckon it was left in, or put in prematurely (ie pending a fitness test)?

well the vic government has lifted the quarantine anyway, so its not a big issue regardless.

if we win, my money says the head lines are about malthouse and how the pies are struggling, not about the dees. just a feeling.

Dogs' boss says Melbourne is copying their ideas

my personal preference is that we don't actually nail the nt deal, but bid them down a bit lol they go less money but still lose the home games... -
the key with bate is playing to his real potential and his strengths. he looks good when he can use his strength one out and the ball is kicked to advantage. he looks good when he can use his pace and burst away. he also looks alright on the lead, when it is delivered out in front. he never looks good when the kick is not to advantage; he struggles to push back and doesn't mark or contest well when not in the advantageous position. he doesn't turn well; if he has to use agility he is made to look slow. if he is allowed to use his strengths he could be a very solid player. we really need to rest of the team to deliver the ball to him effectively. one of our biggest problems is that we are crying out for a forward who can take pack marks or contested marks over the top of other players. midfielders don't always get the pass right, and forwards aren't always in the best position (or there may be extra defenders dropping back). in these cases we currently have no one capable of taking charge in the air, it is usually marked by the opposition, or if spoiled it is often cleared quickly, especially given that we have had a tall forward line of late (newton, robbo, miller, jamar, PJ, neitz, bate, have all been in or out and we have played with 3 tall forwards alot, even though they havn't been great performers) and not many great crumbers.

the funny part is that they answered their own question. they are cracking the sads because we took an initiative off them. and then question us, and then state maybe its because we stole their prospective sponsor. i mean, why bring it up? we never went running publicly over mission foods. hypocrisy if you ask me. -
Brad Miller. $150. Reserve Reached... (even our captains reserve is only $200 or less...) great idea that overtime bidding system. it means you can't trump someone because of your super fast internet connection, and it means that you bid in real time, like at an auction. i.e. always get the option.

DD i understand your pain. i head over seas later this month and was hoping to see the debut before i went away. how long you gone for? Trident, I don't particularly care what any other club thinks tbh. I didn't hear the 3AW stuff, my old man just told me about it and was wondering if it was a common occurrence at the moment. Rouge, I agree that QB was probably a factor, but not ina sense of 'oh we've been having a bad week, how bout we just put him in next week for QB match?' I think his 10 week preseason, play the casey games, play the brighton games, do the certain training etc big picture plan they have been talking about, has been building towards a debut this week. I think it is likely that when they sat down to plan it out, if he ticked all the boxes, about now was the time he would debut give or take two weeks, and as such today was probably picked as the ideal date for other reasons. I imagine that this date has been set for a while, conditional to everything else - form, fitness, schooling etc. I also don't think they would've been to concerned about form as I am sure they realise he is a classy user of the ball, who, as long as he is getting 20 touches, would have some impact on a vfl game. good players are good players, even if they are young. i doubt they expected him to dominate anywhere (even at vfl) this year, due to his body size, but the key would have been for him to get the football and be comfortable with the pace of the game.

good response here. i didn't hear the comments, 45hotgod, was it just one carlton supporter complaining?

We have been talking about how Watts' first match could bring the crowd through the gate for the club, but I've just been told some of the sentiment on 3AW is completely the opposite- accusing us of picking him for the marketing and not because he deserves it. Has anyone been able to hear 3AW to let us know what is being said? What about other talk back ie SEN? How do people feel about the selection of players for marketing reasons rather than on merit? I am sure the club would disagree with this statement but it is hard to argue we aren't trying to play it up, by reporting it on a Wednesday pre-selection etc Thoughts? (PS mods, I know this could have been included in the other thread, but thought this was worthy of a discussion on its own, otherwise it would be swallowed)

thanks jaded and nasher. i am currently studying at uni, and a course that had a high requirement to get in. but my point is that enter scores mean nothing. teaching is a hard profession that requires an intelligent individual and quite an important skill set, yet the required enter is low because it is not in high demand. similarly, trades require no enter qualification but usually employers require the achievement of a victorian certificate of education. other courses require very high marks, but could be completed by less skilled individual because there is a high demand. enter scores mean nothing. that being said, enter scores are of interest for 2 years i believe after you leave school. after that point, you are assessed on a number of factors as a mature age student. it is probably safe to say that jack watts has a few years on an afl list ahead of him. even if it is only 2-3, not getting into his preferred course now will not nessecarily cost him in the future. VCE scores are not important unless you want to go to uni, and then they are not important unless you want a specific course with a specific enter. i am an advocate of a good education, but i am not sure that 'good education' translates in anyway shape of form to 'high enter', and at no stage did i advocate that anyone should leave school without passing year 12. those who think a high year 12 score is the be all and end all clearly have no idea how society works, or know they won't get it and are jealous, or know they will get it and think they are elite. or parents who don't understand. doing your best is more important than etting a high score.

not too sure about uni results either, after your first job is attained..although i did see someone the other day, list themselves as joe blog BE (civil) (honours1), which is the first time I have ever seen anyone qualify their honours grade as 1st or second class.
