i actually comment to some people that cales defensive side was alot weaker than his attacking, but given that he was used more on the wing/hff it wasn't too much of a problem. it was interesting to see him playing in the back half on sunday, and being forced to be accountable, and in a situation where a turnover or a poor effort results in a scoreboard representation of your mistake, not just an opposition possession. maybe this is a coaching strategy to teach him to be harder, and more desperate for the ball.

agree 100%. what was with warnock getting penalisaed for head high contact? that free kick cost us a goal, and it was a joke. warnock had two eyes on the ball and was trying to pick it up when a west coast player dived head first into him. he didn't make any contact, the WC player did. i can understand not bumping a player who is running at the ball trying to pick it up and bent over, but if you dive into a contest it should be bad luck. how many players get free kicks for in the back when they dive at another players legs. why isnt it a free kick for tripping?

of course you learn the order. same as you learn the order in a new work place, or school. if you walked into a room with 30 people, would you start bashing on about how good you are, how right you are, how everyone else is wrong and pay people out before you even know who they are. that is what im talking about.

the bench is short, but we must remember than in the backline we have three talls listed (rivers, warnock, frawley) in the forward line we have 5 talls listed (robertson, miller, dunn, bate, martin), and PJ named in the ruck. dunn and bate might be talls that play a bit smaller, but they are of size. we can swing the backline and forward lines around a little for match ups. my concern is the ruck. have doubts about PJ, but the biggest problem is that other than stef, none of the other talls are capable of pinch hitting in the ruck...

yep, we sit in the redlegs social club with the mfc supporters, and i wouldn't sit anywhere else. beats sitting in amongst it any day, so much more passion, and while there are still a few strange fellas, at least they are on your side!

unfortunately we are still just under 200 behind. hopefully someone has some spare time.

he has the highest percentage of effective taps, but does that equate to most effective taps, especially on a league scale? he often has 9 hit outs 22% to advantage, which means only 2 to advantage. as opposed to other ruckmen with 25 hit outs, 16% to advantage, which is 4...

just clear your cookies and vote again, if you want to influence the result. no need to use seperate pc's. if 10 people voted 20 times that would even the vote up.

i disagree. i don't think anyone thinks they are smarter, nor does anyone on here begrudge anyone else their chance to have a say. but unfortunately, like life, discussion boards involve interaction with others. when someone turns up, enters a room and introduces him/herself to everyone they have a chane to make an impression. if they are a [censored], carry on, insult people, cause a fuss, and argue for the sake of argueing, people wont like them. just like in real life people don't have to like you. there are some posters who are a bit gruff, and can be condescending, but who have been around for ages. most of them have proved themselves to be knowledgeable when it comes to footy. the forum will usually take their sides against noobs, especially when the noob carries on in such a fashion. even the morons who follow y_m from room to room to argue with him don't get that their behaviour is childish and ridiculous and makes almost anything else they say null and void. by the same token, if anyone wants to join in the community, almost everyone here is willing to embrace them, provided you behave within the standards set. if any poster feels like they are not being treated right they should consider that this is a community, and like any community, you need to learn the order, and earn some respect.

no offense taken. my point is that i hope we sure up the good young players, and that the only options open (ie players available) are palyers who could add depth and experience to a team that is full of 17 and 18 year olds. those players aren't worth a pinch of salt on the open market, but where a club is looking to get a few players in with some games experience maybe to plug holes in the first couple of years while waiting for some kids to come through, or as depth, because you cant have only 18 year olds as your back ups. if this is what happens, we will get some compensation from the league, which we wouldnt get if we delisted them or tried to trade them.

not true at all, i nursed my way through a season with grade 2 stress fractures in one shin from about round 4-5. it is hard to train, and there is a lot of pain but it can be done. you're not 100% though.

our biggest problem is the amount of youth we have that could be snapped up based on 10 year potential. i am hoping that we can offload a second tier, or future second tier player, or an older player who wont play a role in our next tilt, for above the odds reward. ie a bell, miller, newton, jamar, PJ. ruckmen might be a hard thing for the new side, so jamar might be an option. we wouldnt get anything for these players above a trade of 5th round draft picks but we could snare a 3rd rounder in the compensation...

the ball sailed along way through the goals. do you think he would've kicked it that hard if he was trying to centre it?
-
no worries, i didnt realise you were referring to the error 'stat'. i think the problem was, he wasn't 5 meters away. a couple of times when varcoe got it loose i looked for rivers and he wasn't within 10 or 15 meters. i havn't checked the replay so can't be sure, but I am assuming he dropped off his man to do the zone spoil thing, and his man had the smart sense to go and stand by himself in the goal square. the zone and spoil thing works better when you are playing on a tall leading forward, because if their lead is ignored you can drop back into the contest, and know that your man is on the other side of play. small men try to crumb packs where they get loose quick ball.

its funny, when yze did that two years ago everyone screamed for his head. but i do agree with you somewhat. some of my highlights from sunday against geelong were watching players have shots from 50-55, cale (from 60), and jones both had cracks. much better kick a point than fluff a short kick to a contest.
-
i disagree. i thought he was poor and loose on sunday. in the first half he was 'manning up' (and I use that term loosely) on Varcoe at the centre bounces. When the ball came forward Rivers would do his thing but loose his man. 3 or 4 times varcoe was the loose, unmarked man in the forward line who allowed a certain geelong goal as they out numbered us around the ball. i would like to watch the replay and see how often he lost his man, and how many goals were kicked on him. And while he is one of my favourites, I will be watching more closely the next few weeks to see what his man gets away with whil he is zoning off. i was very dissapointed with rivers on sunday.

DD, that may have been meant as a jibe but it is definitely a compliment...

Bate - what's his position? Bruce - doesn't stand up Davey - career best form Dunn - not quite there Frawley - strength and agility Johnson - struggling with form Jones - improved with support Maric - disposal was dissapointing McDonald - ran hard repeatedly Martin - successful forward experiment McLean - not a star Meesen - better than jamar Miller - cant kick 50 Moloney - quieter than usual Morton - showing elite potential Rivers - loose and unaccountable Robertson - showed his class Sylvia - still too quiet Warnock - determined quiet achiever

Are people on this thread site, sight and hearing impaired?

I think you mean sight impaired, not site impaired. -
We are now officially on the bottom of the ladder
deanox replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
haha could only have been better if north got up last night. but i agree, the more games freo wins the happier i am. although it is WC that could potentially take the best picks off us. actually if melb and WC were both to win 4 games this year, and WC was to win the wooden spoon, who gets priority pick 1 and who gets 2? we finished on the bottom last year. Or if we won 4 this year to their 3 so that the points were even over the course of two years also... -
I'd like you guys to have a read of my most recent post in the newton thread RE his performances at VFL level and how they translate into AFL level. Hopefully Newton gets a few more chance to perform well at this level before being thrust into AFL level again.

The club is now called "The Fitzroy Football Club Ltd incorporating the Fitzroy Reds", and is playing under the name "Fitzroy" wearing the uniform of the Fitzroy Lions and singing the theme song of both clubs.

Juice Newton- Criticisms, Comments and Kudos
deanox replied to Biffinator's topic in Melbourne Demons
interesting to see newton kick some goals this week at afl level. In 2006 (his first season at the club), he kicked bags in the reserves (12s, 8s and 7s) but only kicked goals in 3 of 11 games with the seniors. In 2007, he played 11 games for sandy seniors and kicked 5 or 6 three times, and 3 a couple of other times. He then got promoted to the AFL where he played the next 10 games kicking more than 2 goals only once. In 2008, was in and out of the mfc side for the first couple of weeks before getting injured. He missed a couple of games, got back into sandy, missed a couple more, then got back into sandy where he kicked a couple of goals in each game. One week he kicked 4 goals and was promoted to the AFL the next week. After a few weeks he has dropped back to sandy and was in and out for the rest of the year. He only once kicked more than 2 goals in a match (4) for sandy seniors from 8 matches, while he kicked 4 in one of his two matches in the ressies when coming back from injury the second time. This season he has played two games in the afl (i'm pretty sure he didnt play at casey against sandy in round 1), misisng most of his shots at goal before going back to casey where he has kicked 5. First time he has kicked 5 since 2007. He dominated at VFL ressies when he had long run at that grade. He has shown bits at vfl level without ever being allowed to dominate or even simply perform well over a long period of time before being promoted on the back of 1 good game. Perhaps he needs to be able to find consistent form at that level before being asked to step u again. It will be interesting to see if he is rushed straight back or told he needs to kick 3-5 goals for 2-3 weeks in a row to get a promotion. I wonder how important kicking goals is to the mfc or if they are more interested in other performance indicators like pressure/tackling and leading. -
a lot of wikipedia is sourced, so it can be used as a starting reference to find detailed information. it can be editted, but you can also check editting history to see if it has been altered or vandalised recently.

the fitzroy reds is the fitzroy football club that we knew., in the same way the the melbourne football club is the original melbourne football club. i believe the clubs were never actually merged during the brisbane fitzroy thing.
