  1. cos VCE is that important? seriosuly, VCE is important IF you want to go to uni. otherwise, a pass mark is all that is required. I go to uni, I should know. He has a career in front of him as an AFL footballer, at the end of that know one will care about his VCE. If he wants to study engineering or medicine, or arts at melbourne, while playing afl, his enter score might count. otherwise it doesn't mean jack. And if he is that keen to get in somewhere, he is earning 60k a year, to be 200k a year within 4 years and will have problems bypassing enter scores by going to a full fee paying position. VCE is important yes. VCE is even more important to your average joe. but after the unis compare their marks, your enter score means nothing, to anyone ever.
  2. interesting how much millers goal average lifts when newton is also in the side. is it because his goal average is diluted by the time he spent down back? or perhaps with newton as a lead target at full forward, it gives miller a bit more confidence, and less tall defenders to worry about? it would be interesting to see similar comparisons to miller with robbo and neitz...
  3. unfortunately it is us vics who are south of the border. perhaps they should be the cubans?
  4. tbh, i hope that they budgeted for less than the target, i.e. last years membership.
  5. the good thing about casey is that it has the space around it to be easy to improve, upgrade, and car parking is not a roblem (although getting people in and out of the car park may be). i think for it to be successful in hostin afl games, it would need a larger stand that held at least 15k, and still had room for 10k standing. i really dont think anyone can afford to have a ground that only holds 20k and play afl games, because when people start getting locked out (conceivably from the first game) everyone will scream. no one predicts 15000 crowds for games at the g. and if the weather is good, and both teams are up, the game could pull 25k no questions. too hard to predict preseason imo. but i'd be interested to see your analysis casey scorp.
  6. love child of deegirl and hutchy...
  7. i disagree stongly. if we think that scully is the best player in the draft (ie good enough for pick 1 in two of your scenarios, and apparently another club thinks scully will be the best in scenario 4) then we should pick him first in every case.
  8. happy birthday WJ.
  9. bells problem was never the defensive side of his game. as a spoiler from behind on the lead he is top notch. he has fantastic pace which means he plays well on those sorts of small-medium forwards who play leading games. he doesn't have great sideways agility or peripheral awareness which means he struggles on smalls who make a habit of running around to get kicks (ie crumbing forwards) and struggles when he is trying to carry it out of defence and no options present up field - his lack of awareness is caught out. i believe he has reasonable disposal, but like others in our side is often faced with a lack of options. while some players just bang long without waiting for an option to present, bell waits too long for the perfect option and often gets caught out. he needs to find that balance and needs to improve his awareness. i wonder if there shouldn't be more effort from teammates to let him know when he is 'hot' given that there is a clear deficiency in that area?
  10. i reckon id go as far as to say that i'd even allow didak to win the NSM for collingwood, provided that we own the flag hahaha
  11. i'd take anything against anyone, but against collingwood, or another melbourne team, would be fantastic. more supporters to rag on, especially if it was collingwood. in hindsight, perhaps i would like to smash essendon, as pay back for 2000. i assume some of the bit-older-than-me's would like to pay hawthorn back for the 80's as well...
  12. if the afl wanted to remove the talk of free agency, the simple option is to make all players contracted to the afl, not the clubs, then have the clubs sign contracts with the afl leasing the player for the length of the term. then there is no rival business. all players play for the afl. the afl leases them to teams based on drafts, trading etc. players are more than free to play for a different code once their contract expires. and simply, the afl just withholds the amount of the salary cap from the annual dividends to the clubs.
  13. are you and demondan... having a competition for who can make the stupidest post?
  14. i have never said that he hasn't been a great player for the club. i have always been an advocate of the fact that robbo is played out of position (in a side with a genuine FF and CHF he would've been an even better player). but just because there are no other name players to list, it doesn't mean they aren't selfish. the three players you listed are more interested in the glory than the hard work. im not saying robbo doesn't bleed red and blue, nor that richo isn't the heart and sole of richmond but what you have just described is exactly the kind of selfishness im talking about. 'they HAD to kick the goals' is the [censored] poor arguement that allows them to play selfish, instead of giving off when they should, or taking the higher percentage option rather than the spectacular. how many times have you seen richo blast teammates instead of running to support? how many times have you seen robbo try and take a speccy and lose his feet, only to allow the ball to be cleared? both selfish acts. i disagree. everyone has always been a big fan of robbos strengths and outspoken of his failings at the same time. if he had of curtailed his selfishness he could have been an even greater player. he may have lost some of his 'spark' moments ie some big speccies etc but he would have been a more valued team member. i don't think attitude towards robbo has changed, but it is emphasised more now that he is 'the' senior player, who is expected to lead by example or get out of the way. the supporters are sick of that style of me first play. it nearly got us a flag in 2000, but nearly is still only a loser. the club needs a culture of team first. robbo is not exhibiting it. at times slyvia hasn't exhibited it. when other players do the same they get blasted. we expect more from robbo, but he just doesn't deliver, time after time.
  15. heads up demondan... you''re losing the fight the way you're carrying on. and to claim that richo and fev aren't/haven't been selfish is a joke.
  16. Tassie spirit? or is it too netball? lol
  17. hahahaha are you serious? no afl player plays selfish football? lol i realise DB claimed that. but what did he drop him for? taking the screamer? kicking the goals? being the most potent forward we've ad all year? DB didn't say why he dropped him because he wasn't hanging robbo out to dry. he had 5 marks, 9 disposals and kicked 2.3. he didnt have heaps of it, but his poor kicking for goal, and stuffing up that shot, while lying on the ground, as well as not centering to sylvia at another time, combined with lying on hands and knees instead of chasing, all add up to dropped for poor effort. we'll never know the absolute reason why robbo was dropped, but i bet tanking has nothing to do with it, but you are right it is good that we can have opinions. i just cant se why else he would have been dropped. do you have any ideas?
  18. petterd is named as an emergency. does that suggest to anyone that he has been squeezed out rather than dropped for form?
  19. have you not thought that to develop a winning culture you need to develop players that play for the team not for themselves? Robbo is a clearly selfish player. i love watching him as he can do the amazing. he is a wonderful player who can light up the side, but his example last sunday was disgraceful, especially for a senior player, and in fact would probably lead us further away from creating a flag winning culture. by dropping robbo, bailey is sending a message to the team - play hard, play smart, play for each other. no glory hogs. rivers may have made skill errors, and may have let goals through, but ive never seen him play selfish football. in fact, rivers game is probably one of the most unselfish in the club. he backs into packs, he spoils, he leaves his man to help out teammates. sometimes that behaviour has cost us goals (see varcoe, although i believe that was a poor match up), however you would never see rivers doing something to gain the limelight or attention, he never plays for himself. skill errors are tolerated, they can be worked on and fixed. they can be accidents. selfish behaviour has consequences. a deliberate choice was made to take a selfish option and that is why robbo is out.
  20. how would it be us on the front foot? havnt the dogs been playing there for a few years?
  21. good post Einstein. I still don't like free agency, but in the light you describe it, it isn't as bad as I thought. I know we are past the point of loyalty in elite football, but there is something I like about following the players for 15 year careers at your club. A prospect that will diminish if FA is introduced. I follow the mfc, not the players, but it won't mean as much if we buy 22 players over 2-3 years for a flag rather than develop the kids into a great team. Part of football is about legends and records. Legends don't swap clubs for money at every opportunity. Yes some have had multiple teams, but many of the greats have played for their one club and earnt records in that environment. That being said i can see an argument for a player like Pav to try and chase a flag somewhere, but I wouldn't like it if it was our players running off and leaving us with nothing.
  22. or could they go with something like the 'southern sharks?' or tasman somethings? rather than tasmania... southern stars? with a southern cross on the jumper? doesn't sound great to me but the type of thing the afl would go for. i'd prefer to see the afl stick with traditional type team names, 2-3 colours with big broad jumpers (stripes, sashes etc), and a song that is recorded by with about 10 blokes singing and a brass band backing it.
  23. great call rpfc. and i think that in light of the visy deals, it should not just be payments from the footy club that are transparent. all contracts which could have some conflict of interest (including sponsorships, media appearances, outside of football work because they all have to be football club approved) must be made transparent, so we can see that player x is getting paid y by company z (which also happens to be a club sponsor) or that 15 players from club a all work for channel p but only 2 players from any other club work for channel p. if it turns out that the owner of channel p also baracks for club a then these sorts of deals need to be scrutinized.
  24. maybe a direct swap for petterd titan? having not seen casey games, i wasn't sure if he was actually playing forward or just drifting forward, or off a wing.
  25. don't forget that that number includes jumper sponsorship...
