The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
No, not really, he wasn't an interstate player, completely different situation to Jesse Hogan. Plus Ablett wasn't a star when he left Hawthorn, he was wayward and unpredictable, there was no certainty at the time he'd even line up at Geelong. -

Why would Hogan leave MFC for another Vic club? That is a harder question to answer. He won't, it simply doesn't happen. I asked you to name another player in Hogan's position that it happened to and you thrown up FA's, fringe players and reformed drug addicts. Jesse Hogan is a budding young superstar, he has developed friendships at the MFC and started his career here, on top of that we can afford to pay him a top dollar, he isn't going to jump ship to another Vic club. -

Are you drinking? -
Our problem in this country is that we have a legal system that not only favors women - but incentivizes them to keep the father away from his kids. This results in a breakdown of the family and ensures that a lot of children go without Fathers. Unfortunately a lot of these children get abused, but at the very least they grow up in unstable environments. Its little wonder that we have a domestic violence issue, I am surprised it isn't worse. When we have a nation that encourages one sided laws, and incentivizes women to keep their children away from their Fathers, then the end result is a lot of unstable adults. Stuie, instead of seeing this issue through a narrow lense, perhaps broaden your view a bit.

The players you mentioned were either FA, players lacking opportunity or players facing the prospect of a drug ban. Can you name a player the quality of Hogan and in a similar position at his age - that got poached by another Vic club. -
Who raises these men Stuie? They don't raise themselves. Women are overwhelmingly the majority of child abusers, and the statistics are drastically under reported. Its unfortunate that we live in a fatherless nation, and it is even more unfortunate that these men grow up and re-cycle the abuse that many of them went through as children. As for Erin Pizzey, she not only founded battered women's shelters, but she is actually a leading figure in the field of domestic violence. If I have a choice of listening to Stuie of Demonland or Erin Pizzey (expert in DV with over 30 years experience), I know who I am listening to.

Wasn't Henderson a FA? Suckling a FA? Melksham and Carlisle rare cases - for obvious reasons. Kennedy and Fitzpatrick left due to lack of opportunity. Yarran basically thrown out. How are these players even remotely comparative to Jesse Hogan? -
Actually the cycle of abuse theory has been empirically proven by Erin Pizzey - a woman. So you can call her a woman hater as much as you'd like - but she actually founded battered women's shelters, and has over 30 years experience in the field of domestic violence.

He isn't exactly going to jump ship to another Vic club - that just doesn't happen. If he leaves it will be back to WA, and we should be able to match those offers. So I doubt it would be money related, but agree it would be homesickness if anything. -

I might be a one-eyed Dees supporter, but I think we have the best 'young' list in the competition. Hogan would be silly to leave IMO. If you look at Freo's list, its going to at the very least stagnate over the next 5 years. Even with Hogan, they'd still have to replace Pavlich, Mundy, Sandilands, McPharlin, Johnson, Crowley, Barlow and Pearce. Even with those players I don't think Freo are in the window anymore. -
And of these so called 'animals', how many of these savages are just re-cycling abuse? Australia is a fatherless society, and these so called animals (men), are growing up under circumstances that are less than ideal. How many of these perpetrators come from broken homes? Its all good and well to point the finger at men, but when you do point the finger at men, please do not forget - WHO is raising these men! Its certainly not men raising them.

If we are being meticulous, they are all factually incorrect. Domestic violence is just a political football. Experts like Murray Straus and Donald Dutton have already 'absolutely, and utterly destroyed' the hysteria around these 1 in whatever's (men/women). You really are a sucker for a good story Stuie.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOSHUA WAGNER
KingDingAling replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only knocks people can knit pick over, are that Oliver did not play in the nationals. But as you know, that can be easily explained by having OP and a limited preparation. So for Oliver to come out and dominate the TAC cup - to the point where he practically won the Morrish medal in half a year (off of a limited prep) - speaks for itself. Oliver picked himself, he was absolutely dominate, and if people weren't whinging about Oliver they'd be whinging about someone else. There was more risk around pick 7 IMO, but we need another tall. But in saying that I'd understand people knocking that selection, it really will be one that is a wait and see for quite a few years. -
A list of players he will be competing with for that 3rd rotation - Kennedy, Bugg, Melksham, Petracca, Salem, AVB, Alex Neal-Bullen, Michie, and possibly Trengove. IMO its not too early to suggest Newton is up against it to maintain a spot on the list, he doesn't need any setbacks at all, he can't afford them. This is a good thing for MFC, our depth - at least through our midfield - is improving, and players will have to stay on the park in order to perform/keep their position, or in Newtons case, to even consolidate a position.

First in - best dressed. Its a good problem to have. Oliver will be first to the football, I don't think we have much to worry about. -

The thing I really love about Oliver is that after a couple of years in the system, he is going to run over players. Like literally run straight through them, he is a bull - as aggressive a draftee as I've seen. The fact that he goes for the ball at all costs means the opposition will have just 2 choices - get out of his road, or get stream rolled. I cannot wait to see the finished product of Clayton Oliver. The only comparison I can think of is Dangerfield. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCHELL KING
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
His tap work is exceptional. I've watched his highlights a handful of times now. He is actually quite agile. But what a smart ruck man. Another player we drafted to come back off of a set back - did an ACL last year. We seemed to of placed a premium on resilence - which is exactly what this club needs. Players who refuse to give up after major setbacks. -

Spot on. I think Dawes can lift as well, he kind of has to if he wants to remain in the starting 22. The Oliver/Weideman combination is a perfect blend for us, one will be ready to hit the ground running, the other will take some time to develop. To get Weideman in this draft is ideal, it will mean that he SHOULD be ready to replace Dawes in 2017. Reports are that he is competitive in the air and keeps his eyes on the footy - those types usually come on pretty quickly in the AFL system. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
KingDingAling replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. Not only that, here is a kid who missed the Nationals, was coming off of a limited prep - yet fought back to win the Morrish Medal. I like the way Oliver goes about his business on the field, but indications are that he is self motivated off field. He obviously has a healthy confidence in his own ability, and a motivation to ensure he gets the best out of himself. He simply wasn't going to let a missed State opportunity hinder him as player - if anything it motivated him. Those are the type of players we need at MFC. Of course its also a bonus that he is a bull and a clearance machine. -

Looks taller than 199cm. TImes his taps well, looks quite coordinated for a ruckman. I don't mind this pick. I hadn't heard of Mitch King before. -
Sam Skinner still on the board. Thomas Glen still on the board.

Damn! Balic.
