The AFL need to stop drinking their own bathwater and admit that expansion has had a tumultuous and long-term effect on the viability of this, now, 18 team competition. The dilution of young talent to only two clubs has upset the natural order of the draft and thus prolonged the ability for teams like Hawthorn to maintain their position at the top. If you distributed the lists of GWS and GC to the bottom 8 clubs, the competition would be radically different today.

Essendrug are certainly doing a good job stealth rebuilding their list by turfing out WADA infected players every year. Not sure the likes of Gwilt, Cooney and Chapman are sending them in the right direction though.
