  1. Brisbane are where they are on the ladder because they are awful in the midfield and everywhere else too. I like Rockcliff and Rich but they are hardly going to send fear into the opposition themselves. They burnt their emerging midfielder in Rischatelli(?) and little else going in the midfield. Black came off midway during the game and had his hamstring heavily bandaged and Power these days does cameos these days in the midfield as Voss is trying to stretch his career out. They are toothless. Beamer played well against Sydney and I will credit him that. He played as he should against weak and undermanned opposition for the past 2 weeks. He went missing (with others) against the class and pressure of Hawthorn. Moloney is a C grade meat and potatoes midfielder who plays with great passion but with limitations. He is a bit more experienced than he was in 2005 when he joined but he plays the same way. And along the way this year in a side screaming for leadrship on and off the ground, he stuffs up badly and embarrasses himself and the Club. He has not been tested this year beside Hawthorn and came up short. I would like to see how he goes against Collingwood, Geelong, Freemantle, Essendon and Carlton which have better midfields than the Qld teams. Moloney's performance on Sunday was as convincing as the 90 point winning margin. What it actually means will be revealed when we are tested by tougher opposition?
  2. They dont roll uphill. I think you are looking for splinters but missing the forest. There was nothing in it WL. The statement was only reflective of what many have already said and written about the state of the game both on here and in the AFL media. If you actually took the statement in context with the rest of the article there is nothing extraordinary at all. In fact it is a sensible move by the Club.
  3. What if we bought 2 or 3 houses and planned to build an expensive house......STCA of course. B)
  4. Has there been an expensive house sale in GWS recently? Surely that an undeniable sign that Scully is going to GWS.
  5. The Club made it public some months ago to players, FD and the football world that they would be doing a pre season management consultant review of all aspect of football operations. I would have thought the timing of the report would have been expected and have allowed the Club to consider and make decisions in respect of 2012 and beyond. This includes coaching.
  6. Absolutely Nasher. Moloney looked against GC like Swan looked against Richmond on Friday night, too strong and physical. GC gave an exhibition of football that was reminiscent of some of MFC's performances. A few talented juniors, too few quality senior players (some of whom are not up to it Brennan and Harris), plucky efforts but an inordinate inability to keep their feet in physical contests for the ball. Under the circumstances anything less than what Beamer did would have been ordinary under the circumstances. Good point you raise on Jones also. I thought he just went on Sunday.
  7. Any slight chance that Beamer might have embarrassed himself on Monday night? So far this year, Beamer has played well against Sydney, been dominant against the 16th and 17th best midfields in the AFL and was not sighted against a quality opposition Hawthorn. And over the last week, compromised himself and embarrassed the Club with a disappointing lapse of judgement and maturity. He came out against kids on Sunday and lead the way. As senior footballer you should expect that. The real tests of Beamer will come when he (and others in midfield) have to stand up and perform against more mature and competitive midfields. He made the right steps on Sunday to commence redeeming his behaviour and needs to prove himself against better quality opposition in the coming weeks/months.
  8. Folklore at best. Flooding/Zoning started coming into vogue in late 90s. Roos started as coach of Sydney in 2002. GOt nothing against Roos. BRFE makes a fair point about Roos and his styles.
  9. Chris Scott and Brett Ratten have said emphatically that the sub is not the 22nd player in the 22 but awarded tactically to player who is ideally an impact player whose selection will depend tactically on who you are playing and where you are playing at. Its ideally a position to be revolved. Watts wont improve by spending too much time on the pine.
  10. In reality its probably both of the people who dont really know at all.
  11. I am not sure Blease is a key player yet. Be nice if he proved himself in the VFL first. Scully and McKenzie when fit are very important to the team and other players will make way for them. Petterd is competing for the medium sized forward role with Dunn. I dont see Jordie or Scully performing Bartrams small defender role so he stays for mine.
  12. You will note I then followed the first sentence with an open question. I did not draw any conclusions from the first sentence. Nice try though
  13. And they have Harris, Brennan and Fraser... . There is 470 games or about 22 games per player of dubious quality there. But the important issue is not necessarily the maths but the fact that both sides have a pre dominance of talented young players who performances can be both exciting but frustratingly inconsistent. There lies the challenge of the outcome this week. MFC will/should/could might win but its not out of the realms...no dont think about it.
  14. Quite the contrary... I dont not speculate just dealt with the facts at hand. As a leader in the team, Beamer got terribly drunk and has admitted to a series of past issues where he now feels he has a problem. As junior in the team at 21 Ponting had one public experience of drunkenness....period. Other than that any thing is speculation. I do wonder if there was more to the issue than is publicly admitted by either the nightclub or the Club. Could the MFC have managed any incident on that night out of the press but privately behind closed doors, Schwab, Bailey and co would have been ropable with what they established actually happened and have punished Moloney accordingly?
  15. Great knock by Watson. Another reason why Bangladesh is still an affiliate standard of one day cricket. Lots of wonderful stats out of Watson's innings. But it does not mean much given the opposition. About as memorable as Gillespire double ton against them when he was night watchman.
  16. Bailey has said repeatedly that the clearance from the stoppage is the best option available ...period. He did not specify foot or hand. Ping! I was going to say lack of vision for Jones but this will do.
  17. Can you name any other issues where Ponting has had problems with alcohol? Moloney admitted he had prior experiences like the recent bar issues where when he drank he drank to a point where he drank too much and could not recall or account for his behaviour...There is a difference. B)
  18. Pure speculation. I hope so for the Club and Moloney personally.
  19. They will. But there is clearly an issue where a person, a profesional sportsman goes out for dinner and is still drinking 7 hours later to state of inebriation that he does not know what he is doing is as problem. I am not sure they had to force him as it was a dumb act with dangerous overtones. I would have thought Moloney would have had the sense to address a situation that he admitted has happened a number of times. I am sure that Moloney and his family would be upset at the issue. He was bl@@dy fool and has himself to blame. From what was said, he was the first to realise the issues. Fevola would have been a lot better if Carlton and he realised after his first prior that action like this needed to be taken.
  20. As a 21yo he got drunk and got into a fight. It was once off and not the similar problem that Beamer admitted to. I wouldnt mind a few sportsmen of the calibre of a Ponting in my side.
  21. The bottom line is that Moloney has identified that he has an issue or problem and is taking steps to deal with it. His problem is not uncommon in society. Its a pity a few more people with similar binge habits dont take the same sensible action.
  22. Its a really crud leadership example in a side that lacks leadership when a senior player and VC goes on a 7 hour bender the day before a recovery session. Really poor stuff. Neither MFC or the nightclub are claiming the urination issue. MFC is publicly disappointed at the lack of judgement, decision making and example set by Moloney. He was right to publicly commit to counselling. In a nutshell. Well done on completely missing the point. B)
