Hopefully this debunks the story that JVR won't be played this year.
-
Says who?
-
Terry Jenner?
-
You obviously never saw Robbie Flower play. Fritsch isn't exactly an Adonis.
-
Congrats on the most ridiculous post ever. JVR isn't seen as our saviour like Watts. And JVR has a competitive instinct that Watts never had.
-
Rubbish. At least BBB attacks that ball in marking contests, and makes some effort once it hits the ground. I suggest you watch the replay. Weid was not interested in making second efforts.
-
Why bring it up? I'm sure we are not planning around it, so it has no relevance to whether we get Grundy or not. We should be planning on bringing in a young ruck who is already in the system. There are plenty of options. And also rookie listing a ruckman or 2. Grundy makes absolutely no sense, especially after coming off a long term injury.
-
Ridiculously premature. God help the kid if he actually makes it onto our list. The expectations will be nauseating.
-
I don't get this argument that playing against the Pies in front of a big crowd is not the time to debut JVR. We are bringing him in with the full intention that he will be part of our finals campaign. Some players thrive in the big occasions, some don't. JVR would only have to perform 20% better than Weid last night and it makes our team better. The one thing that JVR shows is that he is a competitor.

They were worried that in his concussed state he might start singing "Freo, way to go".

When Bedford has been in the team Spargo has played further up the ground. Spargo is far more valuable forward of centre.

It's AFL football. In the post-match on Fox, they had Weitering miked up during a game. He was playing on Toby Greene and they were belting the sh#t out of each with open hand jabs to the upper body. Nothing reportable, just hard footy that happens every game. If Weid can't hack it after 7 years in the system, it's time to pull the plug.

Howe and Moore showed talent as forwards, in particular with their contested marking. Weid's one and only talent is marking on a lead. Don't see how his skillset translates to being a backman. Weid's draft position is irrelevant. We'll get what he's currently worth, however I don't see any other club being interested. I'm sure we shopped him around last year to get draft capital for Cerra. There were no takers.

I hated the idea of moving Gus out of the backline, but it was a win/win last night. Our midfield definitely worked better, and Rivers and Salem were more assertive. It was Riv's best game for the year, and Salem looked closer to his best.
-
Weid's stat line was a picket fence. 1 k 1 h 1 m 1 g.
-
We have Turner, Joel Smith and Tomlinson at Casey. Why bother experimenting with Weid as a backman to the detriment of others? Weid isn't a forward talent, so any comparisons to Howe and Moore are not relevant.
-
As poor as Weid is in the air, and you could make excuses last night given the conditions, his complete lack of effort once the marking contest was over was staggering. It was almost like he was disinterested. To make a 2nd effort was an afterthought.
-
How will Weid take Moore out of the game? Brown actually leads up to contests and gets into positions where his opponent has to spoil. Anyone suggesting that Weid should retain his spot mustn't watch the games. In: Brown, Harmes Out: Weid, ANB As others have said, I doubt that they'll drop ANB, but he was woeful in conditions that suit his game.

Let it go.

Perfect summation. We need to remember that Freo have been horrible in the wet this year. This game goes to show that winning contested ball is the key to whether we win or lose. It's not talent. Shout out to Melksham. His place in the team is assured.
-
Of course players take time to reach peak fitness, but that doesn't mean they can't contribute from year 1.
-
Can we park this till the season is over?
-
Isn't that why his new nickname is "Steak Knives"?
-
Jackson hasn't demonstrated at AFL level that he can play forward, mid or back at an elite level. If he was even a capable forward, it would ease a lot of our current woes through injury.

Surprised Banfield was dropped by Freo. Always seems to bob up and kick important goals.
