I'd imagine that he was well paid after his 2018 season, so there are more valuable players that should be financially looked after. I doubt that he leaves, especially to move interstate, when his parents and girlfriend are in Melbourne. I wouldn't read too much into this headline.

I'm not against holding events in regional centres where existing facilities exist, but let's not build some monstrosity of a facility that's rarely used by the general public. I'm talking about the baseball centre in Laverton and the harness racing facility in Melton. There's no reason why regional centres can't hold events such as lawn bowls, T20 cricket, cycling (road race, time trial, mountain bike), but we have existing facilities within the CBD precinct to hold all the other events.

How can you say that it's hard to build a tank during the season when Ben Brown did exactly that? The coaching dept showed enough faith in Weid to give him a block of 5 games last year. Weid didn't repay the faith. That's on him. Even if Brown or T Mac got injured, I could easily see Weid still missing out, because both Max and Jackson are developing as forwards. And Fritsch essentially is a key forward.

It was difficult to find wide options on that ground. The dimensions of Norwood Oval width wise was 110m compared to Casey Fields 145m. This week they trained with cones on the ground to mimic the size of Norwood Oval, but they basically had to unlearn everything they'd practiced all preseason. But that was no excuse. They had to win the contested possession to beat the Crows on that ground, and they were soundly thrashed.

If you can't remember Paul Prymke, then I suggest you didn't follow the Dees from 1994-1996. Played 24 games in his debut season, came 3rd in the BnF in 1995, and retired in 1996 due to back issues. Was a gun CHB, who's career was ruined by injury.

I agree with everything you've said other than the last paragraph. The club isn't going to factor in homesickness when recruiting, even if they had an inkling that Jackson may want to go home. I'd be more concerned with Dogga being tempted by a crazy contract offer elsewhere than the homesickness factor.

You left out Paul Prymke from the 1994 side. Barring injury, he would have made a huge difference. Todd Viney raves about him. Also Jako was gone by the time Wiz arrived.

Not often do I say this, but I have to agree with DeeSpencer in regards to Paxman. She was slow to move the ball on, and when she did, she invariably took the wrong option. Hanks is elite. Along with Monique Conti and Erin Phillips, she is the best kick in the comp.

From the rare times we got to see him for Casey, Turner looked really assured down back. The club must see potential in him as he was re-signed, whilst our other midseason draftee Declasse was delisted. We are well stocked down back, but I fear Covid ball will hit most teams at some stage, so he may get a gig in the seniors at some stage.

Jackson, Rivers and Pickett all played in their 1st season. As did Bowey. If he's good enough, JVR will play. Age is irrelevant.

Great post CHF. I think the term "depth" is often misconstrued. My definition of a depth player is someone who has shown that they can perform a role at AFL level. Just because a player at Casey is playing in a particular position, he may not be adequate AFL depth. An example would be Baker, who from what we've seen at AFL level, isn't currently adequate AFL standard depth. Outside of the premiership 23, this would be my depth chart: Proven depth: Dunstan, Tomlinson, Hunt, J.Smith Adequate depth: M.Brown, Daw, Melksham Questionable depth: Weidemann, Chandler, Bedford, Baker Unproven depth: Laurie, Turner, D.Smith, JVR, Woey, Howes, Rosman, McVee, AMW Jason Taylor said prior to the draft that we would be drafting for needs in areas where we need backup. He's gone with a KPF in JVR, a wingman in Howes, and picked up FA Dunstan as a mature aged inside mid. Dunstan provides cover for the loss of Jones and Vandenburg. JVR is backup for the aging Brown, T Mac and questionable Weid. Howes is backup with question marks over Baker and Rosman. I haven't included Woey, McVee and AMW, who as late picks, I'd consider best available development players.

With the way Covid has impacted the AFLW, our draftees may be needed to play rd 1. I think that DD36 summed it up well. If you're doing all the right things at training or at Casey, birth certificates, body size or experience will not be a factor in team selection.

If not for Scott Pendlebury, Patty may have been an AFL player. Pendlebury quit the AIS basketball program, and Patty was offered that scholarship. I agree durango. The path for Australian basketballers is through the American college system. Many get offered scholarships, but only the select few make it to the NBA. Josh Giddey is one the exception. He made it via the NBL. Those that don't make it to the NBA, very few get offered European contracts, and the rest are fighting for NBL contracts. The NBL has slashed player contracts due to Covid disruptions. A rookie listed player in the AFL would be in the top 5% paid players in the NBL. A development player in the NBL (rookie equivalent) earns only $17,000 pa. So it's not surprising that many switch codes.

I would definitely prefer to stand at the footy, though it's not really an option now, aside from AFLW. We didn't think about it at the time, but it was fantastic to be able to go to a game, pay your money at the gate, and stand pretty much wherever you like. I went to the races at Flemington on Saturday, and whilst standing in a queue with $20 in hand, I was told by a lady that tickets had to be bought online through Ticketek. The process was a knightmare, and If I wasn't meeting a large group of friends, I would have returned home. Everyone had the same knightmare experience. The Hillsborough disaster had a fair bit to do with stadiums around the world becoming all-seating.

Good gets Big Carl. Alan Johnson would be the 2nd wingman aside from Robbie in his top 20, but I tend to think of AJ as a back pocket. I'm surprised that Big Carl made the top 20. Whilst he certainly scared the living daylights out of the opposition, it didn't necessarily translate to wins.

Nice work Deespic. This list is the most controversial IMO. To say that Travis Johnstone "put his first good season together" in 2005, and yet he is rated so highly. And whilst Steven Stretch had a fine career, I'd rate Stinga and Stan Alves ahead of him. I'm curious to find out who the 2nd wingman in your top 20 is aside from Robbie. Surely not Langdon, based on 2 seasons at the club. Maybe Tom Flower gets a nod to complete the Flower, Wells, Flower centreline. Your ranking of Allen Jakovich at 26 is fair.
