You're dreaming.

Where are all the posters that proclaimed that Grundy is worth a 1st round pick, so that's what we should give up? All of sudden the dual AA and BnF winner is now absent in the conversation. Even if we got a top 10 pick for Jackson, Grundy worth is pick 27 at the most as a salary dump by the Pies. What we got for Jackson should always have been immaterial for what we pay for Grundy.
-
Well that goes against the clubs strategy of moving up the draft.

Freo have a couple of highly rated young mids in Erasmus and Johnson, who'll get more game time. Lobb is a loss, but they're getting a generational talent (cough, cough) to replace him. It's folly to predict any teams rise or fall.

I seriously don't understand what our ruck list management plan has been. Last year we re-sign Weid for 2 years on presumably low money, and groom him as a backup ruck/forward. He was a failure as a forward at AFL level this year, but was playing as the 1st ruck at Casey, and acquitted himself well in the finals. If we don't see any potential in Weid as a ruck, why did we re-sign him? We could have drafted or traded for a ruckman in their early 20's, and groomed them under Max. Instead we got an aging Daw. What was more concerning was JVR playing in the ruck at Casey. If he is our backup should Gawn/Grundy get injured, then we've lost the plot.

Demonland is the only place where people think that Cerra wanted to come to Melbourne.
-
Cerra was always going to Carlton. We came to the party late, and he gave us the courtesy of a meeting.
-
Meek won't come to Melbourne. He's contracted and wants to leave Freo because he'll be sitting behind Darcy and Jackson. Why would he want to sit behind Gawndy? If Weid goes, we'll need a mature ager from the state leagues and a young rookie ruckman. It would be sheer madness if we use JVR as a backup ruck. T Mac and BBB look cooked. I'm not a Weid fan, but he is ruck depth.
-
I don't see under any circumstance why we should re-sign Baker. Another ruckman on our list is more important than a wingman/half back, who wasn't considered for selection this year.

Fox really getting into the guts of the trade.

The self appointed draft guru Knightmare works for ESPN and I'm sure he wrote that piece. He was pushing for Bailey Rogers to be drafted last year. I've watched a bit of WAFL this year, and you're right, Bailey Rogers wouldn't be high on any club's radar. He's a slightly better version of Jimmy Munro.

The players you mentioned did their knee in their teens/early 20's. I'm not saying that Bruce is chronically injured, but history tells you that it's less likely that an older player will return to the same level of mobility/agility. Based on your logic, we don't need Bruce because T Mac and BBB will be just fine.
-
We climbed into the window with young players like Jackson, Kozzie, Rivers, Bowey, Sparrow and JJ all being given opportunities. We slipped this year because our older players were supposedly banged up. I want the next generation of young talent that we have at Casey to be given opportunities. Unless the players we bring in are best 22 and still in their prime, it's a regressive move. I want our success to extend past a short window. What message is it sending to the young players if we keep topping up with older players with question marks? Young players are impatient. They'll seek opportunities elsewhere if they aren't given a chance.

If the club think that that BB or TMac are cooked, the option is to play Petty up forward with JVR, play Turner down back, and have Tomlinson as depth. And I don't want Bruce getting a game ahead of JVR. JVR might get "homesick" all of a sudden.
-
He didn't dominate at VFL level, and was underwhelming when he played in the AFL. The club see Turner as the next cab off the rank as a key defender, and rightfully so. And I'd rather rookie Ellison than keep Tomlinson on our list.
-
It's the same Josh Bruce that kicked 1 goal in 5 games this year including a bag of 1.
-
Yep, he was a must have in Fantasy football last year because he could rack up meaningless possessions.
-
Yes he is a better option than Oskar Baker, but I want our kids like Howes, Laurie and Woey to be pressing for selection.
-
Brilliant strategy of trading in 2 players who are coming off long term injuries. If Bruce is only on our books for 1 year, then a straight swap for Tomlinson is ok. But if we extend his contract then we've lost the plot. Bring back Josh Mahoney.
-
I knew there'd be one. AJ's career was almost finished by the time the Eagles entered the competition, so no real go home factor.
-
There is no way North would take Jackson in the PSD.
-
Regardless, it's still not a great return on top end WA draftees.
-
Just thinking about that, and I realised that we have a poor retention rate of WA players acquired at the top end of the draft. Here's a list off the top of my head of those who ended up back in WA: Luke Jackson Jesse Hogan Cale Morton (bust) Jeff Farmer (freo traded the rights on him for Phil Gilbert) Troy Longmuir Phil Gilbert Jason Norrish Darren Kowal Warren Dean (Pre draft) I can't actually think of a WA player who started and finished his career at Melbourne. I'm sure there's some.

Did Luke or his mum say "no"?

So we boycott them if we don't get a fair deal for Jackson.
