Towards the end of his career we paid him much more than he was worth. I'm not too sympathetic.

He'll be out for a long time and I wish him a speedy recovery, very sad news to here. His jaw will ache in the cold for the rest of his life. I appreciate the way he puts his body on the line week in week out and it's a shame to see this happened.

You'd want Jones and Blease instead of Ploddy McPlodd McLean. He gets slower every week Hope he proves me wrong next week, he is one of my favourite players!

Perhaps this wasn't all about the MFC. This might be Schwab and Stynes' way of thanking the MCC for their financial support year in year out to the tune of 6 figures. I don't think this is 'take take take' situation.

Our second pick Blease is one of the quickest midfielders. I'd argue that we needed a quick midfielder more than a 2nd KPP forward because our midfielder is (with Essendon) the slowest in the AFL.

I agree with Thundercloud too, I enjoyed the piece. However, this is a thread for bashers and no surprise to see Rhino with the most posts.

I doubt our structural issues with the forward line will be fixed next week or any time soon. At this stage, I'd rather go a speed midget forward line of Maric, Davey, Wonna, Jetta, Petterd, Sylvia and tall timber (whoever that is - PJ/Martin aren't forwards) instead of having Miller/Bate in there. Harder to match up on. The most depressing thing about our forward line is that gone are the days of Neitz/Robbo getting double teamed and giving the other guys room to move - our plodders like Miller can be beaten 1 on 1 by their direct opponent and the opposition coaches know it.

#6 Matthew Bate At FF: Too slow off the mark, not tall enough, and isn't exactly a prolific contest marker. As MidFielder: Skills not good enough, footy smarts are not there, and is slower than our (already slow) midfield. Bate is an ordinary forward flanker who had a particularly ordinary game today. File under 'Sylvia' category of player that will not 'deliver' in the way we would like.

Bwahaha, we are having an optimistic start to 2009!!! It's quite amusing that we've gone from a team in 04 with an awesome forward line and no backline to the other way around.
