WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
For sure, sounds like a good tactic for a side with concerns over their defense. Won't that be a great spectacle, another 30 stoppages per game. Stupid rule, we're not playing netball. It's a massive change to the game.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
I'm not so sure. If you set up properly, that clearance we all love (not) of just throwing it on the boot forward, only to be intercepted by the spare in defense, may just become a weapon. 2 talls about 40m out on 45 degree-ish angles to go pretty much one on one. Moloney would've loved it. Just thinking out loud, but I reckon there'll be quite a few goals scored in quick time with that rule. I can see why broadcasters want it, but I'd say the football community will blow up and it'll only last a year.

Umpires this week
Not just 'The Brazilian', none of the umpires from our match made the GF. Razor the emergency is as close as they got. We clearly got the 2nd raters for our match (if we didn't know it already).

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final
Seriously need to consider drafting F. Kick from the Hawks. Clearly BOG so far and their highest possession winner. He could win this for them single handed.

GAMEDAY - Preliminary Final vs Eagles
I know what you're saying, but I could live with at least a few pages of Malthouse, McChins and FIGJAM crying their little eyes out.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Preliminary Final
It's Fritata's first year, realistically he could never have expected to play as many games as he has, and the whole year should've been about development. He's been played all over the park and the experience he's gained will be invaluable going forward. Look out next year with a full pre-season under the belt and the fire this will no doubt light in him. As disappointing as it is for him, I think it'll be the making of him. Also excited for what Smith may be ready to show us. He's always picked when he gets fit, with or without reserves form, so the footy department obviously see a lot in him. Given the improvements we've seen across the list this year, I have little doubt he'll be a star, hope he can show it all off this weekend.

Dom Tyson - what's wrong?
Agreed. He's also eligible for a trade to Carlton as he served time at GWS prior to coming to us.

Proposed new rules for 2019
Why hasn't the MRP looked at the Brayshaw incident. He was recklessly hit high while on the ground and it could've been a very serious outcome. Is it because if they applied a penalty it would mean the umpire had made a mistake?

Geez, you'd almost think we were everyone's 2nd team.

The search for a big man ...
It depends which way the footy dept. want to go. If we want to play 2 genuine rucks then Preuss the obvious best available. If it's purely a backup option I'd say Campbell. For mine I can't see us going with 2 rucks, because I think they'll be looking to squeeze all of Hoges, TMac and Weid into the 1 team next year. You just can't add another ruck into that equation, can you?

Possibly, I hadn't heard that but you may be right.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we're eliminated from the AFL finals then the VFL eligibility rules will come into play for the VFL, meaning Vince won't be able to play?

Welcome to Demonland Toby Bedford
Righto here's a question for you on the whole academy thing. If someone were to select Bedford with a first round pick, which we then match, using accumulated points from down the draft order, does this then count towards one of our 2 required first round picks in 4 years as per the future pick trading rules?

The problem with playing either or both of Smith and Tyson is the Cats are professionals at gaining any advantage they can, legally or otherwise, and this includes sniping. They'll go after whoever they believe to be our most influential players, but also whoever they think is an easy target. Think back and names like Jetta, Gawn (influential) and Fritsch (young target) come to mind, only in recent times. Smith's shoulder will be a target, as will Tyson's arm, I guarantee they've already discussed it, in fact they've probably spoken about Viney's foot, but decided the consequences just aren't worth it.

Agree, Fritsch in the forward half would mean he doesn't have to play the Hawkins punching bag role.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?
2016 All Australian Jasper Pittard has been thrown on the table by Port, any good?

Tarryn Thomas
There's a lot to play out in this and next years trade period, but with our recent first round history, chances are (and as it currently stands) we'll need to take next years pick to the draft. I'm not sure how we can get Whitfield next year without trading in more first round picks.
