Pick 8 is our 2nd pick. We can use a 3rd pick in any later round where we have a pick. The draft doesn't stop until all clubs are done. We can do a rookie upgrade in round 6, 7, 8, or whenever our 3rd pick falls. If we had more list spots available we could even choose players in round 9, 10, or 11. I assume you're looking at the AFL's indicative draft order as a guide? That only goes up to round 5, but that's not the end of the draft if clubs are still making picks. I think it's likely we will be looking for a further trade, however we don't technically have to.

I don't believe that's correct regarding pick 8 having to be a rookie upgrade. The draft is basically endless, until all clubs are done. At this point we have no 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks (I think that's right, but doesn't really matter), so if we need to make a 3rd pick it happens in a 5th round, be it rookie upgrade or new draftee. We may or may not be the only club left standing at that point, but until all clubs are finished drafting players, it just goes on and on.

Hadn't thought of that. Possibly, need to look for some AFL draft rules. If it were a rookie, which one? It may be a last resort.

Must make a minimum of 3 draft selections. As it stands our 3rd pick will be up near or even over 100. That would be fine if we were upgrading a rookie with that 3rd pick, but doubt we'd be looking to draft a youngster that late? Further trades to happen bringing our 3rd pick back into an earlier round?

I thought the minimum was 3? Unless we upgrade a rookie, but can't see that happening.

Does anyone have an updated list? Considering 3 picks in the draft, how many spots are left to be filled? I'm still holding out hope for something in the forward half to eventuate.

He did win 7 out of 11 in 2015 as caretaker coach. Inherited a fair team no doubt, but the circumstances couldn't have been easy. Certainly a crazy ride, without knowing the details of the review it's hard to say. Potentially collateral damage with a new senior coach coming in.

Exactly. Under normal circumstances clubs may put together a token trade of very late picks so the player can move prior to preseason training, and the player can do a whole preseason with the new club. However Murray is unable to train with a club until December I believe, so it's pointless to rush it.

He looks like a once in a lifetime player, perhaps the best player the universe will ever see, in any sport. Pick 6 and Jezza Cameron should cover it.
