  1. yes, my original draft had em-dashes and they disappeared when posted, so i edited and inserted en-dashes. you see?
  2. Macca, you are spot on. I always watch for holding at stoppages, and i always get annoyed at the zero protection Jones gets from the umpires. But, even though Jones was held an aweful lot, that was not the problem. Our midfielders were knackered, plain and simple.
  3. Every team which played on the MCG in round 1, lost in round 2. Many of them drammatically: Carlton, Melbourne -- one good quarter then shot. GC Suns -- never fired a shot. Geelong -- lmao. Even Hawthorn fell over. There is either something to this, or it's one hell of a coincidence. just saying. [edit: site doesn't like em-dashes.]
  4. ^^ worse, he will end up carrying the can for Vlad's bad decisions. worst. ever.
  5. Riley Riley Riley. Why does our clearance monster get overlooked when clearances are our no.1 deficiency? I really do not understand.
  6. oh yeah, Carlton only managed a 1 quarter effort last night. and Richmond were also crap today...
  7. ...and the Suns are replicating our "effort". makes yer wonder.
  8. Rory Thompson is one of my favourite players. I would love to see him in red & blue, but i would also hate to see the Suns robbed.
  9. The playwright ceased revising this drama long ago. But how was the third act? A dramatic finale i thought, though the fore-shadowing was far too overt which made the twist altogether too predictable. I am also a bit concerned that the twist will make the fourth act come over as a little dull. It has, however, certainly set things up for a compelling final act and apotheosis. [edit=i can't quote for shhh...]
  10. ——"We Big Fish here in Little Pond Conduct affairs with magic wands!" ——"Beyond the Pond, where none can see, Tsunami's wrath bears down on thee."
  11. Watts (this is his breakout year) Riley (that broken leg is behind him now and he will start to show us the stoppage-monster he is) Toumpas ( says so)
  12. Regarding that whole "line in the sand" thing: if you can see sand, you've crossed it. [The bolded text in 10.10.1's comment is mine, all italics are in the WADA source.] The players shouldn't even be at the club. EFC cannot be ignorant of the fact that they are violating the conditions of the Provisional Suspensions. It seems to be yet another pretext to appeal (could be trying to tie things up at AFL-level in order to interfere with WADA's ability to bring the AFL's wet-lettuce punishment to CAS in a timely manner): SS 13.2.2-3 are also interesting and relevant (but lengthy). Essendon are playing a very dangerous game, i wonder if they know it's for keeps?
  13. Toump vs Port. 2014, Round 11, 4th quarter, 1st minute. goal (to regain the lead) disallowed after umpire interference.
  14. Akermanis on Open Mike (30 May 2012) this vid covers it very well, and some other gems worth revisiting.
  15. me too BBO. Trenners and Jones are off limits. Their loyalty has been invaluable to MFC in keeping OUR loyalty through these tough years.
  16. Gary Rohan had his leg broken by Lindsay Thomas in Round 4, 2012. Riley had his leg broken in an accident against West Coast in Round 15, 2013. After missing the entire pre-season he has done a remarkable job to get back on the park and earn his senior games this year. Riley will be a very important player for us next season, and beyond. He is a clearance and congestion monster. I can't wait to see him fit and firing (and laying a few more of those bone-jarring tackles of his ).
  17. i like this post, it highlights the fact that we have some promising young players on our list. Aside from those mentioned (and Trengove) we have Harmes, King, Hunt, Evans, Fitzpatrick, Howe, McKenzie, Strauss, Jetta and Georgiou all born in the '90s (23 players total). Sure i have my doubts about some of them, but then, this time last year i doubted none more than Jetta (well, Nicholson and Tapscott, but they are gone now). Like many here, i am pleasantly optimistic that we finally have the right people and environment at our club for these young players to flourish.
  18. He is 196 cm. How many players of that size are peaking by 23? And how many of them are notable for "winning their own ball"? Incidentally, to those of us who go to games his workrate is not questionable.
  19. Cam was the highlight of 2014. I am very happy for him.
  20. Every year AFL become more and more like Reality TV: scripted.
