  1. [re: Margaret Wenham] This is totally unfair. No way is she that ugly.
  2. Robbo should know better. He has worked with Roos once a week for the past two seasons. When he joined the MFC, Roos was very clear about his intentions. He made a point of publicly stating that he understood the game had changed since his time with the Swans and, accordingly, his gameplan would need to be developed in a more attacking direction. He also said, and has reiterated time and time again, that he would build a functional defence and then move the gameplan in a more attacking direction. Which is exactly what he has done: 2014, excellent defence, no reall attack; 2015, defence not so miserly, but we saw the skeletal beginnings of an attacking style which, in 2016: sees Roos complete the plan he explained to the supporters and media when he took the job. But worse than blearily forgetting everything Roos has said over the past 3 years, is that Robbo's argument is the same tired nonsense we were hearing more than a decade ago, when the Swans were making their run towards the flag.
  3. Riemers was quite clear about the injections being optional. There does seem to have been quite a bit of pressure though (see, e.g. Riemers being delisted). Sponsors, no. Coterie, yes.
  4. Just a few thoughts... I don't think we have a best22 anymore, it's more like a best32. "Depth" is not about having decent backup players; it's about changing the makeup of the 22 without weakening the team. How long has it been since we were able to do that? (lol&cry). We now have good "depth" across most of the ground. How many of us put JKH in our best22? He is and exciting young player who has made us leap to our feet and howl with delight. Who gets left out of the back 6? Is there room for Lamumba? It's been a long time since we had to consider these types of questions. We had a bad run with injuries last season, but if we are unlucky enough to suffer the same this season we are much better positioned to cover them. We have also reached a level of developement, as a team, where we can really begin thinking about opponents' structures and game plans, rather than focusing strictly on our own (as Roos repeatedly stated over the past 2 seasons he was obliged to do). Across the board our players are more flexible, able to play multiple roles and positions. Those who couldn't adapt have been delisted or traded away.
  5. Agreed. Some posters should re-watch our win over Geelong last season. Matt Jones was one of our best. Also wish people would remember that neither of these players can be faulted for their effort, endeavor or comittment. These things matter. They do not deserve the venomous attacks that are all too often made against them on these forums.
  6. He didn't play champs, so we didn't get to see him play at the highest junior level. He dominated for about half of a season. However, my opinion (and that is all i am offering) is that his dominance was largely due to physical attributes, which i don't think will stand out at AFL level. My biggest worry was how little he showed defensively (and i confess that i have only seen a handful of his games) -- lack of urgency, not manning up, poor tackling technique (dumping a player doesn't mean much if they get a pass off). It also worried me that Jason Taylor conceded that he hadn't seen a lot of Oliver. I believe he took a risk (and would accept that, at least privately). [edit] I am not saying the risk won't pay off, but i don't think it was needed, or warranted, given the other players available at pick 3. Please note!! that i make no claim or pretense to drafting expertise. I do not think that "i know better" than MFCs drafting team. I am merely answering a question about my opinion.
  7. I agree. I never thought he had shown enough to justify the high price we paid.
  8. This is sad news. Particularly as the club was being careful about his leg issues. He just can't seem to get a clean run at it.
  9. Jayden Hunt. The kid has talent (and jet-boosters). He just needs a run at it, and that's (finally) looking likely. And. Though not at all a surprise, i expect Jack Watts will have a very good year. One of the factors that make Jesse Hogan so extraordinary is that he did not take the usual 4–6 years to come-on. The haters tend to forget that Jack Watts was drafted as a skinny 196cm 17-year-old. They still treat him as a messiah, albeit a fallen one. God save poor Sam Weideman from rediculous expectations.
  10. Perhaps that's how the good stuff was administered?
  11. For me, what stood out in his highlight package was the absence of defensive work. He looks like Jordie's Bizzarro World counterpart.
  12. Have an amnesty period. Give us a set date for the change in advance. This would allow everyone to set their Display Names to whatever-the-hell they want. Then it makes no difference whatsoever. edit: clarity.
  13. Sport reduced to self-centred opportunism is no sport at all: it has lost it's raison d'être. The benefit to us is in upholding at least something of the spirit of sportsmanship and the the ideal of a fair and equal contest inside the white line. It is the difference between the premiership medal which James Frawley was given, and the premiership medal which Nathan Jones will earn.
  14. On the contrary, terrible attendances embarrass the AFL. We refused to support the AFL's GWS@Etihad fuxture, and now it's gone. Your argument is that to overcome terrible working conditions, one must Work Harder! ...Bullshït! Strike!!!
  15. ROFLMAO!!! "Go you Saintas!" LOLOL It hurts it hurts, oww my poor tummy! Reminds me of Tippet "Oh yeah, when does ah get me envalope like de Crows gived me?" LOL!!!!
  16. I did. I've always held it against him, even when i didn't want to.
  17. I think Parish is locked in @3. I like Ryan Burton, but I doubt they'll take him @7.
  18. Please report back. That way only one stalwart suffers .
  19. so... who gets to eat the packet of crisps we got?
