Also people calling for M.Jones and Bail to be dropped, I'm not a huge fan of either but Jones shut Bob Murphy out of the game completely last week. As for Bail whilst didn't have a huge game disposal wise, I thought he competed well and busted his gut. These blokes are at the cross road in their career, Roos isn't going to say here's your chance to play for your career then drop them after 2 games, his obviously giving them a chance to prove themselves. Plus not need to change a winning formula, only other inclusion would have been Tyson and he obviously wasn't right to go

All I can say is.. How good is it going to work on a Friday looking forward to the footy tomorrow and having genuine excitement knowing that if we bring our A game we can win tomorrow and go into the Queens Birthday clash at 4-5 with a chance to be right in the mix at the bye.. Big game tomorrow

I'd say McDonald - Westhoff Dunn - Schulz Jetta - Wingard Garland - Monfries Port have bought in Paul Stewart so maybe Fitzy goes to him
-
Anyone think fitzy could be a late out now that Ryder isn't playing ? There isn't an obvious match up for him. He was excellent last week so would be hard to leave him out but the game style Port plays we would be better with another mid
-
IN: Jetta, Tyson/viney OUT: Bail, M.Jones With ports run game we cant afford to take in an underdone Viney and Tyson if not 100% fit. Only one of the two can play. Aswell as Jetta in who will also lack match fitness. Wouldn't be against viney having a run at Casey if Tyson is right to go

The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
JV7 replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Your signature ? Did hogan really say that ? Haha.. Where was this reported ? -
To think that Dean Terlich and M.Jones came 3rd & 4th in the 2013 B&F... Shows how far back this side was coming from when Roos took over
-
Funnily enough I thought his first half was his better half. Not every player is a crash and bash like N.Jones or Vandenberg.. You need some outside players and when there time to go they go just like Toump did on the half forward line at the city end when he went back and created that spoil. Toughness doesn't always have to be measured in physicality... I saw Toumpas will himself from the members wing to the far pocket when he got on the end of that Watts pass for a goal, that's toughness just in a different sense. His never gonna be a physical player but if plays games like he did today than I think MOST supporters would be more than happy

Please... The kid has coped criticism most of his career and probably rightly so, but today he deserves a pat on the back.. Was probably his best game for the club. Give the kid credit where it's due

Vandenberg- an absolute bull, just loves the contest and smashing blokes Hogan- no words needed Vince- was fantastic all day on bontempelli, huge last qrt Brayshaw- his last quarter was enormous Pedersen- my 2nd favorite player, his willingness to get to contest after contest and to compete is a pleasure to watch (Chris dawes take note at Casey) Grimes- thought he was really good, used the ball well, took some crucial solid marks, back to his old self Fitzpatrick- what a master stroke whoever decided to make him a defender, gave Tom Boyd a bath Toumpas- showed glimpses of why he was pick 4, now to do it consistently and remove those couple of poor decisions he makes

Nathan jones' brain fade was an absolute momentum killer... Knew Bail wouldn't kick that, absolute spud
-
Dogs have had 35 inside 50s if they start converting we could be in trouble Bail & M.Jones 3 touches between them in a half.. Says it all

I'm usually very pessimistic.. Go into most games preparing for the worst. I have a good feeling about today, had the same feeling for round one. Just think the boys will show something, the outs we have don't help but the been at the G is a help, dogs only play there couple times a year although they won earlier in the year against the tiges which turns out too to be no mean feat.. Big game for us really, the different between been 3-5 or 2-6 is huge just for the clubs moral. Tipping the dees by 11 points
-
Fitzy is an interesting inclusion.. You'd think his only real likely match up would be Boyd ? Maybe Mcdonald to Stringer, Dunn to Crameri and Garland to Dickson. I reckon Howe might play forward this week if that's the case. Not sure why Tyson has played the last 3 against Fremantle sydney hawthorn... Think he would have been best to rest his knee then and be back against a side we have a chance against
-
Thoughts on the new PAT set up ? Goes back to the 15 yard line now.. The defense can also score 2 points on a return. Didn't see much wrong with the old rule. I guess it was always a formality after the touchdown.. Makes it slightly more difficult now
-
At least Morton showed some promise early and played some good games in his first couple of seasons... I've always been a toumpas fan but I can't defend him any longer, just don't think he'll make it. Not once have I watched a game and thought "gees toumpas was impressive today"

Chris Dawes 30 June 2014 - 02:28 PM Any chance this bloke can get in front. Week after week he is caught behind, it drives me insane. The best games his played is when he is working hard and been hit up on the lead . He isn't a very good contested mark and time after time his caught behind his opponent or trying to wrestle them. When we have the ball around the centre line he just stands there and points to the air to sit it on his head... Chris your not that good in the air or one on one, get on your bike and lead to the kicker and provide an option to players coming forward I wrote this last year after we lost to the dogs at etihad... Nothing has changed, his probably gotten worse
-
Chris dawes take a leaf out of cam Pedersens book. Pedersen attacks the footy, leads at the kicker and makes a presence/contest. Anyone who defends dawes is an idiot... So what he chases and pressures, he has to because his caught behind all the time. We not paying him $500k a year to chase and tackle. He's a statue, stands there and points and barking orders.. Fkn get on your bike and lead you idiot
-
Yes, that kick on the back flank where brayshaw was open for 10 seconds, ignored him, put himself under pressure, kicked smothered resulting in a hawks goal. Sick of his shithouse disposal week in, week out
-
Good call... Have him right foe the dogs next week. Never going to win today anyway. Young kids struggle to play a whole season first up, let alone one with a trouble back in the past
-
Absolute snow flakes chance in hell we win this game. Just look at our record against them the last 8 years or so.. We'll do well to get within 10 goals. Just like last week facing sydney last week at the wrong time after the dogs loss, no way hawthorn will drop another game like they did to GWS last week. We can just hope for a competitive effort (depressing we are still at this stage of development)
-
Yeah I understand statistically he might have been on par but it's those things I mentioned that aren't meausred in stats that he's so far off.. I'd bring Jamar back or give Gawn a run, atleast Gawns hit the scoreboard at Casey and can play forward
-
Firstly it's easy to get 100% DE when you dish a handball 2m to someone behind you. Like I've stated he coughed up the first two goals, firstly through his lack of football awareness and leaving Pyke to go to Salems man when Salem had him covered and 2nd goal he was dropped back inside defensive 50 and waited until the ball was kicked to Toumpas 1 on 1 with Tippett and made a poor excuse for a spoil. His gotta react quicker and drop into that space straight away, sure Dunn or whoever was Tippetts opponent was should have been there but I saw Pedersen late in the 1st quarter take 3 crucial contested marks inside defensive 50, helping out the backs. Like i said in another post, he can't even punch the ball through for a behind when it's on the goal line. 3 or 4 times he went up, missed it and let the ball out the back .

I thought the days of efforts like last night were over. We were insipid in that first half. I don't care what anyone says about the Swans being a top 4 side and were just a young developing side. No matter how good the opposition is you can still put in effort. Almost every time we had a mark or free kick every melbourne player bar Hogan was just standing there flat footed, not moving, not providing an option, not creating space, forcing the player with the ball to kick long to a contest where Sydney's spare man was time and time again. It's like they all think someone else is going to do it. Chris Dawes, I've said it hundreds of times before can he play in front FFS. He is constantly playing from behind, one stage last night the ball was on the wing and he needed to be the next kick in the chain, yet his standing 5m behind Grundy doing nothing. Lead at the kicker you idiot. Jeremy Howe, has been terrible this year except round 1. Playing like Scully in 2011, Sylvia in 2013, Frawely 2014, just has no interest whatsoever Spencer, never again. He cost us the first 2 goals, he can't even get the ball through for a behind when his on the last line of defence, in the ruck he doesn't even time his leap right.. Was embarrassed by an average AFL ruckmen in Pyke. JKH- have a spell at Casey, has gone backwards this year.. Maybe case of 2nd year blues Roos- I think he has a bit to answer for. The selection of Mckenzie last week, dropping Jamar this week, subbing Pedersen last night I thought was a strange move, he was actually presenting and making a contest and dropping back inside defensive 50 and giving ghe defence a chop out, something Spencer doesn't understand. Dropping Grimes after one game whilst consistently giving Howe a free ride time and time again..

He'll struggle against anyone. Period. Bloke is a statue. Terrible footballer
