  1. I agree with all statements made above. If he were in a Geelong he would be the second best back in the team, just behind Taylor. At Hawthorn he would be the best back. An essentual player and I hope the MFC are going to have some money allocated for next year. Worth 750,000 in my opinion. On a slightly different topic, who is out of contract besides Watts and Sylvia?
  2. Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere but whats happening with James Frawley? Is he likely to leave and if he is a free agent will we lose him for nothing?
  3. Dearest AFL, given this club has a long road ahead of it, could you please donate picks 1 (priority), 3, 18, 36, 44, 52, 70? We would be forever grateful!
  4. Wins is pointless discussing in this stage. Instead, ill be looking for a group of 22 who each week give it their all. For 120 minutes they will kill for the footy. Tackles, contented possessions, defensive and attackive pressure, scoreboard pressure and center clearances the only statistic that matter. Only then will I start dreaming of wins. Watching Port tonight made me really respect them. For a team which was shot, within 12 months have turned that club around. Unfortunately; the Melbourne Football Club is significantly behind Port Adelaide right now. Fortunately, the MFC might just raise some eyebrows in 2014. I will wait (not holding my breath) until 4 games into the season before considering giving 'odds' on wins nor purchasing a membership.
  5. I read this regually glancing at your display pick. Very amusing!
  6. Agreed with you on Cross. Cant we have Greenwood and Cross. They are different players and I'm yet to be convinced on Tompass. While I believe its unfair to put pressure on such a young kid but im just not 100% convinced on him. I'll give him time and learn not to overhype him like I did with Watts. I do believe both could play and therefor support drafting both along with Adams.
  7. Then I shall open up the bar fridge, grab a cold one and look forward to Boyd standing besides Hogan, Dawes, Clark, Howe. I need a napkin I think, drooling.
  8. Taylor is a player we need. Agreed,we require inside mids but Melbourne does not have many skilful midfielders who can kick accuratly. Here is what Taylor can offer. Freeman/Dunmont/Sheed will be ok if Crouch is gone but someone here will slip in a strong midfield draft
  9. #2 Melbourne – James Aish (SA – Mid/Def) Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 08/11/1995 Recruited from: Norwood Style: Corey Enright Player comparison: Range: 1-3 Profile: Aish is an elite user of the footy and just has more time and space than the next player. In space, in traffic, it doesn’t matter for Aish he has rare composure and continues to make the right decisions and never seems rushed. By both hand or foot he consistently uses it well and is one of the more duel sided players you’ll see at this young age and rarely misses a target. Strong mark overhead for his size and has a strong 1v1 game despite his lean build. Aish is an impressive athlete with his ability burst out of traffic with the pill, to sidestep and has a real burst of speed on him in a straight line also. Aish still needs to get stronger but that will come. Despite his lean build he is not a soft outside player and is very willing to get his hands dirty and go hard when it’s his turn but looks more likely to settle on a wing or back flank. #15 Fremantle – Lewis Taylor (VIC – Mid/Fwd) Height: 173cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 17/02/1995 Recruited from: Geelong Falcons Style: Brent Harvey Player comparison: Range: 5-25 Profile: Taylor is a small midfielder with explosive pace and the ability to break away from contests, break the lines and use his agility to sidestep around opponents effortlessly. Can win his own footy as well as find plenty of it outside the contest and in the u18s is a big time accumulator. Excellent user of the footy on both sides and has the ability to do damage both through the midfield and up forward with his footskills finding targets but also finishing around goal. Just a shame he isn’t 10cm taller. #7 Brisbane - Matt Crouch (VIC – Mid) Height: 181cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 21/04/1995 Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels Style: Luke Ball Player comparison: Range: 5-20 Profile: Crouch is an elite inside player. High production player and can contribute from season one. Real stoppage specialist and just thrives on the contested aspects of the game. Hard at the ball and a really natural inside extractor burrowing in, winning the ball and setting up the receivers outside of the pack by hand with that real inside distributing side of his game particularly excellent. He does it as well as any and just thrives on that contested ball type game as that clearance specialist. Crouch is also an exceptional tackler showing strong tackling technique and really going in hard with those tackles and it seems to be another area of the game that he just really enjoys. Athletically Matt is not nearly as explosive as his older brother Brad but has shown some improvement over the past season in his foot speed which is encouraging. Footskills only average by position. He’s not going to do damage by foot but his footskills are also on the improve and can be with further training solid at the next level. The aspect I do like with his footskills is that particularly in the forward half in those stoppage situations he’s very dangerous because if he gets his hands on it and can quickly get it onto his boot for a quick snap on either side. #17 Hawthorn – Luke Dunstan (SA –Mid/Fwd) Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 29/01/1995 Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens Style: Brad Sewell (with better ability forward of centre) Player comparison: Range: 5-25 Profile: Dunstan is a dominant inside midfielder with a strong body. Has future captain potential having captained SA through the u18 championships and is highly regarded for his leadership abilities. Has played plenty of senior SANFL footy and has played some strong footy. Big time accumulator and a natural inside ball winner with the ability to win the clearances. Has very clean hands and that ability to be that real inside distributor with his work in close by hand as good as you’ll find really working to dish it off to those outside runners and get others involved. Not only is Dunstan an exceptional inside player but he can also swing forward, take a mark and hit the scoreboard when given the opportunity and I expect he will continue to be a very damaging player at the next level. Opinions on his kicking vary, but by position I’ve mostly been pretty happy with what he’s done not only finishing but also hitting his targets around the field. Not a particularly high level athlete with his pace below average and is more that strong bodied inside midfielder who can play right away. #34 Sydney – Lloyd Perris (NSW/ACT – Mid) Height: 179cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 02/01/1995 Recruited from: St George Style: Kieran Jack Player comparison: Range: 2nd round/3rd round Profile: Another of those classic Sydney midfielders who just fits their drafting profile so perfectly. Perris is one of those high character guys with future leadership potential who just goes about his footy the right way and will almost certainly get the most out of his footballing ability. Perris has elite endurance and is a two real two way runner who can find plenty of the footy but then limit his direct opponents influence on the contest. He’s not a strong body but he has some real hardness over the footy and can win his own ball while also displaying ability on the outside. He’s also a really nice user of the footy both by hand and foot and seems to make the right decisions so Sydney have really got something in young Perris. #54 Geelong – Cameron Giles (SA – KPD) Height: 195cm, Weight: 93kg, DOB: 5/05/1995 Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens Style: Scott Thompson (NM) Player comparison: Range: Profile: After Darcy Gardiner, Giles is probably that next best key defender. Through the u18 champs he played mostly as more of a shutdown defender which I don’t feel is as much his game but as more a rebounding defender he can be a factor with his points of difference at his size being his vision and footskills. Giles makes the right decisions more often than not seeing the right target but then he executes his kicks finding the right target and can hit them up over a variety of distances. Giles has a tendency to play relatively unaccountable brand of footy allowing him to be a real factor on the rebound and make best use of his ability by foot. This was taken from http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/knightmares-2013-phantom-draft.983436/ however I disagree with the order. I feel we need midfielders and lots of them. Make the focus of 2013 draft on midfielders. Surely Melbourne will be placed bottom 4 next year and therefor use the 2014 season for key positioned players as well the rookie draft (I would like to see Jurrah back at Melbourne for a rookie spot. Make him work his a** off for a year and he might find a spot in 2015). Melbourne would be required to hire a player coach and player mentor (on and off the field - staying in regular contact with Jurrah) spacifcally for Jurrah. Five midfielders in the TAC Draft while an additonal expreienced Greenwood & Adams join us. I think Melbourne also require a further backman and Giles looks the goods from what I have read/seen. In future it would be nice to see Frawley, Garland and McDonald as key backs with Giles either the loose man (helpful at 195cm) or as a KPP against dominant forwards. Add Terlich and Grimes tough nature (love to see him as our Hodgey) that is a dominant backline. Add Aish, Taylor, Crouch, Dunstan, Perris, Greenwood, Adams, Viney, Trengove, Grimes, Jones, Tompass, Matt Jones (who should be on the interchange really) and cross my fingers, touch wood, Taggert ever comes on thats a very nice looking midfield. There are a pleather of forwards too, Howe (who should be a wing/HFP player), Clark, Trengove (playing as an additional midfielder), Hogan, Fitzpatrick, Dawes and Jurrah??. In 2014 Draft target small forward, Key forward (in case Clark & Jurrah dont make it), medium backman and another midfielder. Could look like the following Pick 1-5 = Key Forward Pick 20-25 = Small forward Pick 40-45 = Midfielder Pick 60-65 = Medium backman Of course this is in the future but its unlikely we will be above bottom 4.
  10. Oh Sheez my bad. Dont understand the rules too well as the AFL won't leave our ledendary game alone. So, I'm kind of scared to ask....you might use capital letters again... but can we get anything for him then and would that compensation be equivilant to a 2nd round pick (20 - 40)?
  11. I have spent 3 weeks watching EVERY melbourne game again and based on this season I would like to see Melbourne's list be as follows for the 2014 season: TRADE Jack Watts & 3rd Round selection to Carlton for pick 10 Colin Sylvia & 4th Round selection to Kangaroos for Greenwood Jamar & Pick 10 for Taylor Adams and their 2nd Round Pick Lynden Dunn to Gold Coast for 3rd round pick DELIST Rodan Gillies Tynan Sellar Draft Pick 2 (Priority) - James Aish Pick 3 - Lewis Taylor Pick 19 - Matt Crouch Pick 20 - Luke Dunstan Pick 41 - Lloyd Perris Pick 64 - Cameron Giles With Greenwood & Adams included Our 2014 Side: B: Giles Frawley Garland HB: Grimes McDonald Terich C: Duntan Jones © Tompass HF: Howe Clark Trengove F: Dawes Hogan Byrnes R: Gawn Viney Adams I.C: Greenwood, Taylor, Fitzpatrick, Crouch (sub) Emm: Nicholson, Kent, Barry
  12. Adelaide need forwards. Trade out Watts for Shuey, offer some later picks to get some interest. Jamar could also be some use to them. I dont want to lose Howe. Hes exciting and playing better than 90% of the team. When the team was struggeling (moreso) earlier this season, Howe was one of the few that stood up and showed some pride for this club. A must keep player. If Adelaide dont want Watts then offer draft pick 3 for him. MFC also need to explore what Fremantle will ask for Fyfe. I think if Adelaide wornt to take Watts, then offer him with a draft pick in the 2nd round. Gain: Pick 1, Shuey, Fyfe, Hogan, 3rd Round pick. Lose: Watts, Pick 3, 2nd Round Pick Add shuey & fyfe to Viney, Jones, Grimes, Trengove. With the possible inclusion next year of Tompass, Blease, Tapscott (however im yet to be convinced on whether they will make it).
  13. Just been fairly and squarly owned! End topic.
  14. Mark Sheehan, host of the TAC Future Stars show, would be worthy of concidering for a recruitment roal at Melbourne in my opinion. This is an area the MFC have neglected for years and its time to put some serious focus on it. Getting the right kids is essentual to building a strong team. The MFC Coach + Mark Sheehan should work toghether on building this team. Mark Sheehan to analise the draftee/recruitment list at draft level, VFL or AFL recuitment with constant feedback to the coach who is indicating to him the sort of players the team is lacking during the year (midfielders for the focus of 2012). Add Viney + James McDonald as development coaches. http://www.google.com.au/search?gs_rn=24&gs_ri=psy-ab&cp=12&gs_id=5&xhr=t&q=mark+sheehan&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.50310824,d.dGI&biw=1920&bih=960&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=qmkAUq28JoeAkwXK5ICACg#bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&fp=1b450116a2a448b5&hl=en&q=Mark+Sheehan+AFL&sa=1&tbm=isch&um=1&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=HUcmogbJO4kHpM%3A%3BPcVgjqemRJy_cM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fresources3.news.com.au%252Fimages%252F2010%252F08%252F20%252F1225907%252F964659-kevin-sheehan.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.dailytelegraph.com.au%252Fsport%252Fafl%252Fjobs-demands-in-top-echelon%252Fstory-e6frexwr-1225907964530%3B316%3B211
  15. Adreed. Watts is an incredibly soft player who will never be an elite player. If he doesnt want to be at Melbourne then trade him. Get what we can for him; unfortunatly because he is such a terrible player, wont be much.
  16. Oh but the on the contrary Hood. I in fact have been a regular trader on the ASX and have been since 18 years of age. A company called Karoon (KAR) paid for my apartment last year. I dont rate Toumpas and Watts therefor to me a 2nd round pick is more generious towards melbourne than the oposition teams.
  17. Trade Toumpas + Trengove as a pair. Would have to get a first round pick there.
  18. I agree with you on Junior and Moloney however Bruce decided to leave and Greens time was up. The handeling of Junior was disgraceful and I for one think that Melbourne need to make amends to James for this. Only then can we move forward I think. I would kill to see Junior working with the club. Perhaps in development of our young players. Get Ling to the club too working in the midfield group.
  19. Agree entirly but why stop there? AFL Brownlow as well. I couldnt imagain playing for the MFC. I would be so embarrised being a [censored] weak player who is looked down apon by supports, members, other clubs and the entire AFL community. Still they do say "when dead wood rots, you know its dead"
  20. I have faith in Peter Jackson. To date I have been very impressed with the passion shown to get this club back to greatness. I, personally believe that at years end we make some radical list changes. Concider the following: Keep: Jones Dawes Viney Frawley Clark Sylvia Blease Garland McDonald Grimes Gawn Howe M.Jones Fitzpatrick Trade: Watts - Attract a 2nd round pick Toumpas - Attract a 2nd round pick Trengove - Attract a 2nd round pick McKenzie - Attract a 4th round pick Dunn - Attract a 4th round pick Tapscott - Attract a 3th round pick Jetta - Attract a 4th round pick Jamar - Attract a 4th round pick Or bundle, buy in bulk we might get a better pick. The rest: Well they are not worth anything. Pick 50% that you keep on the list, delist the other 50% This list is not AFL standard and unless ruthless calculated ricks are taken to solve our list, the club will continue to fail. I doubt we would be compeditive against half the VFL. When is the last time you saw a team going through this many years of losses (both on and off field)? Lets start from scratch; new coach & line coaches, new recruitment officer, new CEO, board, president. Start from scratch and implement changes to ensure the MFC will experience some sucsess. Lets face it, this team we currently have wont take us far even with a proven coach. Chris Scott, David Shwartz and other media personalities (Gerard Weightley) all believe the MFC will not be sucsessful or consistant for 10 years. If we think we can make history with this current team then I just dont see it. In 10 years this list will have turned over. Frawley, Garland, Grimes, Jones all entering their final years if not retired. While I dont suggest trading thoes four players, we have been shown that great teams recruit young players around born leaders with AFL experience. Just trade the dead wood. It's just rotting waste!
  21. Gaff, Fife, Martin, Slone all excite me. I disagree, we need to trade our pick 2. Assuming we receive a priority pick (and lets assume pick 5) I believe this should be our draft list: Pick 2 - Inside midfielder from TAC Cup Pri. Pick 5 - Trade for a player above Pick 20ish- Inside midfielder in TAC Cup Pick 20ish - Trade for inside midfielder at another club (Trading Fitzpatrick unfortunatly for a pick in 2nd round) Pick 40ish - Small Forward/Backman Pick 60ish - VFL Midfielder
  22. Every poster on this site who wants to drag Tompass name through mud in less than a year should be ashamed of themselves. For god sake its possible that overexpectation or ridicules slowed Watts development. Patience. Yes I know everyone is sick of waiting as am I but theres no other option availible. We need to do this right, once and for all. If this means our path to sucsess will be slow, so be it. It is possible to have a culture of a Geelong or Hawthorn. Sucsess takes time though and failing this will cause further questions over whether its best for the MFC brand to continue to exist. Peter Jackson is god, oviously not literally, but a god figgure sent to us by the AFL to get our team right. And the AFL is committed to assisting us in our road to sustained sucsess. We, as supporters need to stop making negitive comments about our players during early years. Give them a chance!
  23. Long time reader, first time poster so be kind! The Melbourne Football Club needs to address that the playing list is unsustainable and large list changes are critical to begining the new path for the club. At this time, the MFC should be planning an approach on James McDonald, appoligising for their mishandeling of the situation while attenpting to endorse the club by working in the development of our young draftees. So if the club is to delist and trade large amounts of its list, which in my opinion is required, maximum gain must be found. I have found what I think is a fair way for the club to extract some decent talent from this years NAB Draft and trade period. I am assuming the club is given a priority pick, and while I dont nessercerally agree that early draft picks extract higher chances of future legends, just look at Geelong. In 17 years the highest pick for the cats was 7 - used on Joel Selwood. This is while the MFC have squanded most of its drafting for over ten years. This, however will change the game. National Draft Pick 2 - Best inside midfielder in TAC Cup Priority Pick 5 - R.Slone (Adelaide) National Draft Pick 21- Inside midfielder in TAC Cup National Draft Pick 40 - Small Backman National Draft Pick 63 - Forward/Back National Draft Pick 81 - Upgrade Magner Melbourne Trades: J.Fitzpatrick + Pick 21 - J. Martin Aaron Davey - Pick 60ish Jamar - Pick 50ish Tapscott - Pick 50ish Delist (no value whatsoever, dead waste) Dunn Rodan Gillies Joel MacDonald Bail Sellar
