People just dont get it you have to give something to get something. I would trade Jared Rivers to obtain pick 9? Why? Because I rate Jared Rivers but do not rate him above our other defensive options in Frawley, Warnock, Garland and Martin. He is the oldest and is likely not to be at his best when we are ready for a tilt. He is proven to be injury prone. He lacks the flexibility of a Garland, Martin or Frawley on a leading player. He does not possess the strength of a Frawley or Warnock needed for a powerforward. He does not have the rebounding abilities of a Garland or Frawley. People need to understand that you need to give something of quality to get something. It is clear that many clubs that are in or getting close to the premiership window will be on the hunt for a key back ie: Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn come to mind. I would not give away Rivers but I would put him up for trade and if I could get a pick inside 15 would give him up without hesitation. This may open the door to get a tall forward where pick 2 is too early to take them and pick 18 is too late.

I could not see it being a big pub event as you actually need to hear what they are saying. Tonights 6:30pm viewing on FoxSports is FoxSports1 The Nascar Truck Series FoxSports2 NRL Tactics (a repeat of the NRLs version of On The Couch) FoxSports3 A 30 minute package of English Football league highlights. None of them are exactly ratings cashcows. Without knowing what FoxSports are paying for the rights it would be cheap to broadcast and considering they have 3 FoxSports channels will do well for them. NB: Yes Redleg you can hold my hand but I cannot guarantee my reaction if Butcher is called at pick 3

Potentially the most ludicrous post in the history of this site.

The best thing about this announcement is that it means the draft has been brought forward. The less waiting the better The countdown will be interesting. How will you feel if they have counted down to pick 4 and neither Butcher or Trengove have been called? Will be an anxious moment for people like me who are firmly in the "2 midfielders" camp.
-
Good effort Cooko but if there are too many questions over Butcher then why would Richmond take him at pick 3. You could argue that we are just in much need for a key forward than the tiges. It would be good if when people do their phantom draft if they could be clear with what their level of knowledge is ie: I have seen a few TAC cup games vs I saw the U 18 championships at Etihad vs I have not seen any play but am basing on you tube clips and what I have read.

I have not seen either the FOX Sports interview or the vision of his speech to the players but I am assuming they were better than his actual press conference. For someone who wants to join the media his press conference was an incoherent mix of cliches. Granted he was emotional but the only thing I thought that was missing was referencing himself in the third person. Similar to when Schwartz did the same your farewell speech to your playing group I would think would be personal and not something you would want aired to the greater public.

Demons skipper James McDonald to go on
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Yencks's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not what I would have done but I dont see any issue with this as long as he knows he will need to earn games and not be given a ride in the seniors due to the captaincy. He would not be costing us much coin and as he is on the veterans there is limited impact regardless. His body has held up well which would put him ahead of the likes of fellow retirees Whelan and Wheatley. We are light on for leadership and keeping him captain for one more year may actually see Grimes or another of the kids be ready by 2011 rather than trying to find a filler captain whilst one of the younger brigade mature. There may be a role for him as a miserly back pocket as we do not have many options to play on the small forward of the AFL. If he does end up playing out at Casey he will be a good mentor for our young list and the Casey players. -
I am not suprised that Dunn and Bartram are out. Probably our two best taggers not playing against a team with Judd, Murphy and Gibbs. Guaranteed each of them have minimum 30 possessions each.

Congratulations on an excellent career Robbo. Not many will leave the game with a better highlights package than your good self. People will focus on the high flying marks but there were plenty more strings to your bow.

I would understand if it was 100 or 200 games but what is so important about getting Wheels to 150? To my knowledge it does not affect father/son, life membership, name on locker or anything else of note. Send off game important but I actually dont think 150 is that important. I actually struggle with it being recognised for any player.

Rumour around the Traps:
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is the benefit of having pick 1 in the PSD. You may not get a great player with it in the end but it is a great bargaining chip to force clubs to under sell players. I would trade pick 18 for Boak definitely, would not consider any picks we have below that. Choko is just the type to refuse to deal with Carlton similar to what occurred with Stevens. -
No good unless the test was devised by Freak.

Lucas one of the greats.... I dont think so Matthew

This is a joke right? One of the most under rated players in the last decade. Has lived his entire career in Lloyds shadow and if he had played at Melbourne with the same record we would be praising him above all our recent players except Lyon and Neitz. -

No, No and No. -
I dispute that anyone other than Warnock is capable of playing on the powerforwards or resting rucks and doing a decent job of it. I would argue that Frawley is the only of one those who will develop into having the ability to play on the powerforwards to the level Warnock currently does. It appears that Martin will continue to be groomed forward. The North game although we were experimenting showed the importance of Warnock. Goldstein, Hansen and Petrie kicked 11 goals between them. Agree Frawley and others offer good flexibility and attack but they cannot do the job that Warnock does on that type of player.
-
11 people do lists and no-names Warnock? WTF........I will pull the old chestnut that no-one is untouchable but within reason list as follows. 1. Grimes 2. Morton 3. Sylvia 4. Frawley 5. Jurrah 6. Warnock 7. Garland 8. Davey 9. Watts 10. TBC (I am assuming one of Strauss or Blease will fill this spot once we see them play in the Red and Blue)

Carlton. Then we can say "they know we're coming - and catching up quickly" To wish injury of any type on a player let alone one that bad is disgraceful.
