Bit harsh. That would be ignoring the pin point passing (3), contested marks (2) and goals (2). The Larke medal was voted on by experts watching the games not a 2 minute highlights package. I am not completely sold on Morton and I think there is fair cause to say his confidence needs to be rebuilt. 2012 with a new coach, game style and expectations on him offers just as much chance that he will have a breakout year and fulfill the potential that was seen back then or just as much chance of him being at Casey all year and disappearing into the wilderness. How every second thread ends up about Morton on here is beyond me but regardless the Morton bashing on here needs to stop and we should just wait and see what the season holds.2 points

Because he was the 4th best player at the time? seriously though he won the Larke Medal for the U18 carnival i believe. And as said in the AFL you dont win games by running 100 meters or even 3000 meters quickly. you run upwards of 15 Kilometers a game if you are good enough. This is what people say when they use the term elite runner and morton he runs all day. Morton finds space and reads the play well, i dont know if this suits him now that presses are all the rage, less space and more accountability required. If you can watch his U18 video, amazing skills looks the goods, one kick is drool worthy tbh here it is just after 25 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp9k754zabQ edit - i think Morton lost all confidence under Bailey for some reason, i honestly like the kid, his first year and a half were tip top, very mucha pick four, his last 2 or so years have been nowhere near as impressive unfortunately, maybe Neeld can turn him back around?2 points

wouldn't it be better to just let him play Footy? That is what we are all waiting for...1 point

I'll give you the news. Trengove's sister would have beaten Scully too!1 point

It's going to be virtually impossible to let the "$cully" thing go . We are going to be constantly reminded about him by the media , his huge profile at GW$ , when he plays against us , how he goes in the Brownlow , his knee , his form , his father , etc etc etc . He is getting paid 2 million bucks in his 1st year and the media are going to be all over it . I not sure commenting on him in a thread is bitterness at all . It's more letting off steam and wanting to know the real truth . None of us are absolutely sure what actually transpired in the deal so why not speculate ? When did he sign ? Were the AFL complicit ? Is his knee problem that bad ? There hasn't been a sense of closure yet . That probably won't happen for quite some time . As an example , we will have to wait and see how our compo picks turn out to see if we got a fair deal . I certainly don't feel bitter at all . I'm glad he is out of our Club . But it's not over with yet re the whole truth . "The truth is out there"1 point

The thing I take some comfort in is that it's not only Dees supporters who have a bad taste about the whole episode. A lot of non-MFC supporters also feel we got completely dudded. What's more, many people seem to think that Scully isn't the sort of guy you would want your club to spend a lot of its cap on (ie, his character and his motivations are suspect). Better to invest time and money in players of Trengove's ilk, as they will bring so much more to the club, both on AND off the field. In short, players like Trengove can positively influence the culture of the entire club. Scully seemingly cannot. The other great thing about this episode is that it's completely changed many people's view of the club. Prior to Scully's departure, I think a lot of people thought we were getting an unfair 'leg up' from the AFL - essentially because we were seen to 'tank' to secure the priority pick. We obviously no longer have that priority pick, and at no stage did the club actually derive any benefit from that priority pick - in fact, the way in which the Scully saga played out actually made it something of a millstone for us. Add to this the disgraceful way in which we lost Scully to GWS. Now many people seem to think we were the innocent victim of an unfair system, rather than the undeserving recipient of the priority draft pick. But here's the silver lining - we didn't actually lose anything. We desperately needed Mitch Clark. But for Scully's departure, there's no way we would have secured him. We also dodged a bullet in not paying a mercenary like Scully so much of our cap, which would definitely have resulted in us not retaining some other talented young players in due course. And we got two first round compo picks for him (same as Geelong for Ablett). All good IMO. Makes me happy in fact. And here's the rub for young Tom - he is simply going to love the professionalism of Laurel and Hardy (aka Sheedy and Williams) at GWS. Meanwhile we now have Neeld, Craig, Misson, Rawlings, Brown etc at the helm, arguably one of the best coaching teams in the AFL. If there's anything to make you laugh out loud, it's that. Post-season 2011 is going to go down as one of the best ever in the history of this club. Mark my words. Rev up fellow Demons!1 point

Some people can rise above their prejudices and others either can't, won't, or don't have perceptions with the type of clarity that peaks my interest. I'm as disappointed with Morton as anybody, because we really need him to progress his football. We've invested a lot in Morton and other early picks and if a premiership is to be won we need most things going right. But what I saw in that video was a 192/3cm smooth mover who made good decisions and executed quality skills. I saw a very versatile player that showed he was a good mark and was able to finish good work by kicking quality goals. I saw evasive skills and a player at home in defence, on the wing, or drifting forward. I saw the prototype modern AFL footballer. Unfortunately Morton has badly stagnated at AFL level, but I certainly recognise why expert judges awarded him the Larke Medal and why he was chosen with pick 4.1 point

id still go with Grimes if the injury keeps flaring up over the next couple of years , then appoint Trengove to replace him1 point

It's a long time since we have suffered such a painful off field humiliation. And this is another stinky chapter in the Scully saga. Are we passionate and emotional supporters? Not for us to play the issue with a straight bat. Thats up for the club to do. Some of the dryness coming from supporters on this issue perhaps reflects being all to used to and passive in accepting regular humiliations of all kinds.1 point

He got beaten - no doubt, but I thought he put in a pretty good game that day.1 point

Will Trengove command respect, discipline and commitment from all the players at all times? Will he be able to demand Davey put his head on the line when its his turn to go? I guess you never know until the moment comes but its these things that raise a few doubts in my mind. Admittedly, these would be more important once we are genuine contenders but should be there from tge outset. Otherwise he does seem to tick all the rights boxes. I particularly liked his words after re-signing with Melbourne shortly after the Kardinia Park Debacle1 point

We put too many riders on our captaincy and LG. Pick the best leaders and don't be afraid to go young. I hope that is all that is taken into account. If it means the status quo then it means the status quo. It also means we are in trouble...1 point

The only thing that gives Green any chance of the captaincy is that from the outsiders perspective there is no obvious certain replacement. Moloney- Yes he bleeds red and blue (whatever that means) but goes missing in big games and under pressure. Grimes - Lets get him on the paddock first get some games in him but I can see him as a future leader Trengove - The club needs to determine if its the right time and position for him. Definite future leader. Expect to be in leadeship group. Frawley - Possible leadership group but not captain. Jamar - If Grimes is out because he is too injured then how long can Jamar carry on for and how games has he got left in him? Jones - At best a candidate for the leadership but Captain...no. As our midfield develops I am not sure he is a future part of it. Davey - Yeah well......Pass The Club have an interesting choice to make given they have the inside running on candidate. I cant ping a favourite except if the Club feels JT is ready for it.1 point
