Melbourne v Western Bulldogs Post Match

It seems odd that we can go from fast flowing attacking plays to looking slow and getting spanked.

Is anyone worried about this or passing it off as simply preseason?

I don't think it's too worrying, although good teams always seem to have a knack of winning, regardless of situation and without excessive exertion.

Exactly the same as last week.

Note: If we're in front at 3qtr time at ANY stage during the year, don't take it for granted...

We have to assume the defense will concede a minimum 5 goals for the term.

Don't be silly ... as if we will ever be in front at 3qtr time!

Any game where you get outscored after the first quarter by 12 goals to 4 is a bad sign, it just goes back to some of the heartless performances we have put up in the past.

That's actually 14 goals to 4 since we kicked the 1st 5 of the game.

Absolutely pathetic no matter what spin is put on it!

That was an exhausting two hours of messaging and frustration.

I'm thinking it's time to open that bottle of wine I got in the fridge.

Here's to the start of some meaningful games, and to Robbo getting off his report charge.

That's the spirit ;) !!!

Jaded have a glass of that wine for me (bloody medication) and thanks for all your work tonight.

Same appreciation goes to Diablo, Ding and Faultydet who's reporting was great, even if the performance wasn't......

They didn't want to win, nor did they plan to win - It's part of the grand old plan

Rest easy ;)

OMG.... what a year we have to look forward too.... things can only improve !!!!!

Thanks for all the reports... now time for a red or two or three

Diablo-via-Jaded, thanks for the effort.

good job

Yep. Just to repeat what I said in the other thread:

Huge thanks on ding-via-faultydet and Diablo-via-Jaded for the updates, on behalf of everyone. It is very much appreciated.

Yes thanks fellas...

if anybody needs me i'll be on the Bolte bridge

We know full well what we can expect from the usual suspects but most disappointing was that it sounds like the young blokes didn't make much of a contribution.

What part of Davey, Bate, Jones and Sylvia being BOG did not register? Or are they not considered young blokes anymore?

For the love of all that is red and blue, please nobody start with the wrist slashing already.

Totally agree. Just a sensational effort guys. Thanks!!

There were seemingly no injuries and it was the first hitout for a number of our players. And said players were reportedly going to play around 60% of the match.

I'd hate to be in the trenches with you people.

I'll wait til the performance I'm given on round 1. I won't slag off about a match I didn't see and when I'm not privvy to the FD's agenda.

But I'm sure the experts on here will knock themselves out.

CARN THE DEMONS!

Did Valenti play and if so how did he go?

What players in the squad of 29 didn't play?

We've just been pumped by 23 goals over 3 weeks, 2 of our opposition sides were rubbish

First hitouts? You DO need help from experts

Just read the match thread on 'ology and it's seemed like over half their goals were kicked from frees.

My only hope that i am hanging on is, even though we had a strong team, not all players can produce a quality performance first up. We rested Greeny and Junior who played the first 2 games, we have Bruce and Rivers(i hope) to come back in and with a couple of extra weeks to get it together before round 1 against an understrengthed Hawks, we may be alright.

No point peaking in Febuary.

Go to sleep kid.

Couldn't have said it better! Round 1, or even round 5 will give us a better indication of where we are at. The season hasn't even started and the knockers have us dead and buried. I'm still optomistic.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road again and this may be the last roll of the dice to get their 2025 season back on track as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
