It think you'll find that was why they lost.

It's funny - I would say we always have played like Port - skillful, looking extremely flashy at times but without the hardness necessary to win big finals. I thought they were very forunate against West Coast as well.

Watching Pierce and Rodan play on GF day, I hope we just create a style suited to us.

I would prefer Hollingwood (as their supporters pronounce it) style of accountable one-on-one footy to keep in the contest.

When I look at MFC's list at the end of last year and the start of this year what player strengths did we have that you could build a viable and successful game plan around?

Our list has fundamental flaws and we need to improve the lack of skills and decision making that is endemic within the team. No game plan covers those shortcomings.

I know, we could get everyone to kick torps and hope a melbourne player's on the end of it, and if not at least it takes a little longer for the opposition to score!

That doesn't make sense though. In modern footy game plans change rapidly, just look at the style of footy that Brisbane played in their three peat compared to the current Geelong team.

So you recruit a bunch of kids for your specific game plan. They're going to take, what, 3 or 4 years to mature and become regular contributors? Chances are the style of footy needed to win fianls will already have changed in that period, so your stuck with a bunch of kids suited to a different style of footy and ythen ou need to restart the whole process.

I'm not suggesting that Port are tanking ATM but they are probably not that overly concerned about winning because there's a player over there named Hamish Hartlett who they might have a passing interest in securing at the end of the year.

You're going to have a better chance of recruiting an elite player by drafting the best talent rather that drafting a kid suited to a game plan, and where the f#(k did I say anything about developing a game plan around kids who lack ability?

But Port won a flag with that gameplan! It must work!

In fairness I think "playing like Port" is a bit of a throwaway line - we'll develop assets Port didn't have up forward to balance the lack of comparitive pace in the midfield we have.

That Port don't win contested ball and finals are determined largely by that is the obvious worry.

Win the contested footy, move the ball quick, tackle hard and dont turn the ball over and we will win more games. F@#$ every other club and their gameplans. We are the might mighty demons. It's not f@#$ing rocket science

My initial comments re the game plan was a not so subtle swipe at the previous coaching group, which was definitly based on other teams, it just so happened that the the team it was based on changed every year....
