I was thinking the other day that we only received one and that was at the start of the year. Normally you get one around July and then you get an end of year one. My membership is the $50 mfc/mcc one. I should get the magazine because the membership category is recognised by the afl and goes towards our total. We have 4 memebrs in our house. We should at least get one. Just wondering if others got one. Although I'm still waiting to receive my renewal form come to me in the mail.

To be honest I think I might have got one.

I think its pretty poor by the club, I pay for the concession 11 home game membership whereas my brother who is 6 has a childrens Bulldogs membership and he's received 4-5 magazines this year alone.

i think i only got one, i cant really remember (which suggests to me it didnt happen). i do know that they only send 1 per household, regardless of how many memberships...

Don't think we ever even received that little booklet that comes out at the beginning of the year with all of the players profiles..

They'll step up next year with the magazines I think, and hopefully on a number of other levels ie. stickers, being our 150th and all. Hope so anyway.

next year will be my 12 consectutive year of Redlegs membership and my household havent received an issue since the end of 2005. before that we got only random deliveries....

Glad you raised this topic. I received only one mag. and that was near the beginning of the year. Normally, if I remember correctly we receive three copied each year (beginning, middle, end of year). So, what happened this year? I don't know.

Gee - you'd think Steve Harris as an ex "Age" editor could whip out a couple of editions in his spare time!!!

As for the little year book called this year the "MelbourneFC 2007 Almanac", I didn't receive one with my 2007 subs package so I went to one of the MFC sales booths at the MCG early on in the season and requested and received a copy.

As an aside, I notice the Essendon , Carlton, Bulldogs and (that black and white mob) magazines sold in many news agencies around Melbourne. Why not ours? Spread the word, especially next year our (not the AFL's) 150th.

so... no more magazines?

im sure posters from this site and demonology could write some damn good articles. Also give them the chance to meet the players through interviews and bring the club and its supporters closer.

I am not saying no more mags - I just wanted to fill in some of the history since it seemed people did not know it - I have had no inside knowledge of it for a few years now so what the plan is I could not say.

There always has to be a yearbook, and I reckon a guide to the season is expected, but maybe that is all. Like I said, my inside info is history.

You're right, though, fans could contribute (after all, the volunteers and cut rate writers before were all fans trying to help the club out) but someone has to have the job of co-ordinating all that. Linda Carroll has been writing for it the past several years but as the club historian she has other stuff to do, and that is the issue - it can't really be done by people being part responsible.

you said what i thought. we could get 50 articles a year from this website alone, but who is going to edit it, design the mag, coordinate the project, organise the sponsors and advertisements and pay the printers. thats before distribution...

The magazine lost its importance when Kerry Cuman left about three years ago. Don't know whose in charge of the magazine now - whoever is, I would love to read more about the players outside of football.

I have not received any magazine this year.

I contacted the club in June to ask whether any had been sent out yet, I was told there was a magazine sent out at the start of the season (the season guide thing) and the woman was going to put one in the post for me that day. I even gave my postal address to her on the phone. Never received it and I couldnt be bothered ringing up again for it.

A successful club starts by getting the little things right, there are time that the club/member relationship and customer service needs to improve.

Those who dont feel they get value for their buck wont bother to sign up next year - particularly the $50 MCC members - the people the club are so desperate to keep.

Good idea this may give them a good idea of supporters numbers v's members?

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
