a quick question:

Frawley will be a great backman for the next 10-12 seasons

Judd will be an elite midfielder for the next 6 or so seasons.

Is there any point?

are we even going to be in the premiership window when we have judd?

Of course we will be in the darn window just watch

Frawley will be worth one-fifth the value of Judd at best

FCS the bloke was just the first guy ever to get Brownlow votes in the first 8 weeks of a season

We have pick 4

we trade robbo and get pick 5 most likely

we trade frawley and get pick 9

What would go to west coast if we get judd?????

Even if he's a great backman (and I am already a Chip fan) for 10 years, having maybe the greatest midfielder of them all for 6 is better, isn't it?

Don't see Chip Frawley's well times spoils bringing another 5k members and however many other sponsors.

Flags are won with great midfields, so the window is open.

4+9 to wce, thats 2 picks in the top 10, anymore than that and we would be getting raped

that still leaves us with poick 5 which will get us a good player y not go for a backman to replace frawley!!!

my thoughts exactly

We will end up with Judd + Pick 5

if the MFC had picks 4,5 and 9 in the draft, i would start to consider keeping all 3.

However, if we were to keep pick 5 and get Rance, then all Judd has effectively cost us is pick 4 and Robbo. I'd be pretty stoked if that were the case.

My God, are you saying that you would refuse the deal rather than part with the pick 21 ?!?!?!?!?

I'm pretty sure - and darn well hope - that Bailey/Connolly/Cameron/Gardner/Lyon don't have the same attitude as you

If we stubbornly refuse a WCE deal and Judd goes elsewhere we may as well fold this club up for good because we will never recover

I know that sounds dramatic but Judd is worth so much to everyone, but a great deal more to us for a number of reasons

They will be giving up whatever it takes including pick bloody 21 who very may be a Nick Smith who never plays a decent game for the club!!

First of all, relax.

Secondly, i meant ANOTHER top 10 pick.

Picks 4+5+9 is a bit excessive buddy.

Sorry to disappoint you, but we won't get pick 5 for Robbo.

Can somebody explain to me why they think Frawley will be a champion key defender? I know he's young, but I need convincing..........

we wont get pick 5 for robbo. robbo is old and is bung knee will reduce his value. great player though.

Oh ok thought u meant 4,9,21 was too much

Agreed 4/5/9 is absolutely massive but sheesh mate I would still take it if that's the position we are put in

You have to think, historically speaking, that one of those three may well be not much chop at all and the other 2 probably good/great players but not in the same class as CJ

JUst think of keeping our current list, that beat the Saints in a final 55 weeks ago, and has since seen a number of young players emerge (Jones, Bate, Petterd, Newton etc) and adding one of the all-time greats to it

It would be the right move

All good, I don't think Judd would allow WCE to perform highway robbery on us but then again it's not up to him. but i am no expert at all so time will tell!

Agree about the possibility of one or all of them being dud's, at least with Judd we know what we are getting

That window will be slightly ajar for next year only. After that we won't have a decent ruckman as White will be in his twilight years. We hopefully will have one key forward in Newton who is developing nicely with Neitz retired or just about to retire and Robbo gone to the dogs (literally). And hopefully Rivers is emerging as one of the best backman in the league.

We will have a great midfield but geez we will have a dearth of quality big men and without them you won't win premierships.

We all want Judd but at what cost. We also need high draft picks to select quality key position players so we can't afford to sell the farm. West Coast are smart - they have said they are not interested in recycled players - they want to develop quality young kids,

Just think about how our club will look in 2 years time not just how we'll look next year with Judd.

Good points but I honestly think it is worth plonking it all on seizing the immediate opportunity

You're either rebuilding or you're not

How funny is it? You know when something big is going down, because inevitably so is Demonology

I can't believe people would be upset to lose Frawley over this - I was prepared to lose anyone and I thought we would have to lose one or more of:

Bruce

Johnstone

Robertson

In all honesty I rate Frawley's value below ALL of them and agree with Yze_Magic in that I would be giggling my ass off if we snared Chris Judd and kept all of the above

Key backs are hard to find - see Shanahan & Ellis trades - and Frawley has potential.

The three I've highlighted won't be around too much longer, and I would think that our best crack at a flag will be when the younger brigade have got a few years under their belt.

Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if we took Frawley, 4, and 21 for Judd.

We're better off having Judd for 6 than Frawley for 12, and from what Frawley showed this year, it could take another 2 years before he's premiership-quality. That means 8-10 years of Frawley compared with 6 years of Judd (I know which one I'd prefer), and who knows, we could do a Port Adelaide and find another Westhoff with our last pick who can settle into our defence.

Judd is 24, we will get 8 out of him, and dont forget if he does lose a bit of speed he would still be a great HFF/FP player

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
