Trading Moloney for Tippett, Maric or Griffin would benefit the club.

I'd trade him for Maric in a heart-beat.

I don't have a problem with trades.

I'd like to see Melbourne do about 10 trades this year..!

I am not loyal to players to only win 5 games in a season off 22.

The only sentimental's I have are the following;

1. Jones

That is all. I go for the jumper. Not the player.

Sampi has come out since saying he lost his way and is now desperate to play AFL.

Sampi would be another liability, like Shannon Motlop and Byron Pickett.

im not sure what figure re trade is valid. But given our almost ineptness lastt year Id settle for one or two. Actually I dont think we are that far off a very competitive team for next year..and the following year with more tweaking...well.. look out :)

Its not the number of gaps in our line up..just the importance of a couple.

For mine the only two roles we can fil one way or another at a top AFL level are our Ruck..and fullback.. they to me is where we trade and draft. . If we give up an on baller here.. a mid fileder there.. etc etc. then so be it..we can probably cover them.

i agreee..Sampi is a headache in the making

What are you trying to say?

Is Davey, & was Chisholm in this category also?

I don't think aboriginal players are liabilities at all.

They just need good management.

Dean Bailey will be able to manage our footballers next year. I think Sampi should be strongly looked at.

He wants to play - I say we sign him for a 1 year contract - He will understand it will be a 1 strike your out basis.

I agree with you totally. What Fullback would you consider?

I'd trade him for Maric in a heart-beat.

Tippett's twice the player Maric is. Would be playing if it wasn't for a shoulder reco.

I read Maurie's post differently. Motlop and Pickett had poor work ethics on the training track, hence looked overweight, as does Sampi. No mention of their race.

I'd leave Sampi alone.

Is his shoulder injury prone?

Will he continue to have problems with it?

Because once you have a reconstruction, your never the same again...

well its the 64 dollar question really.. is more like ... who's coming into the field ? bit hard to answer without knowing who might be available. :)

i'l lget back to this after a better look around

Understood.

If you did mean it like that Maurie I apologies for my reply.

I just thought due to the drinking etc.

Although, that's not exactly a non issue here either.

If Ashley pulled his head out of his ass - I'd give him a go for sure.

But I guess that's not really a risk we're prepared to take.

Unless J Brown is on the market, there are not too many players who fit this criteria. In the modern game, pack marks are a rarity.

Key forwards are the least of our problems at the moment. Ruckmen, key backmen and creative running backmen are our priorities imho.

We picked up a key backman in Frawley last year and we also have Rivers and Carroll, but we only have one young key forward on our list in Newton, which is why a big forward is more important to us than a defender.

There are more key forwards around who are capable of taking a contested than you think.

I look forward to it.

I like hearing others opinions about trades.

It's almost like you own a franchise sometimes

I agree with you. Elaborate.

well..... you can be.

As it happens Ive had a shoulder reconstruction. albeit Ive never played any sport at an eleite level I still play at a very physical level, if only a gerry !! lol. .I sense its as good as it ever was.. though I always know it feels a little different tfrom the other. ( make sense ? ). I dont favour it.

Id be inclined to think with proepr recovery and management this type of injury is the least to caus eongoing.. say compared to hammies..and groind.. ( with or withour OP )

well..... you can be.

I haven't. I've had a shoulder reco & two knee reco's now & I have never been the athlete I once was.

I was a RM/CHF. Now I'd be a FF/FP.

I was 90 kgs - Now 103 kgs.

I'm yet to be convinced that Frawley, Rivers or Carroll are capable of shutting down the elite forwards such as Brown, Reiwoldt, Hall and Pavlich. We couldn't even shut down a young Tom Hawkins.

Kurt Tippett (Adelaide) for Brent Moloney.

Promising 202 Ruckmen.

With Hudson, Biglands, Griffin, Maric, Meesan, Sellar all competing for 2 spots, We could snag him.

Lets get real.

Adelaide would swap a young ruckman for an OP stricken midfielder who has not played for two years and has no sign of playing again.

You have got to be joking.

Adelaide would have rocks in their heads to do it.

Chris Judd had a suspect shoulder prior to the draft, which is why he went at no.3. The rest is history.........

Yes. A suspect shoulder problem.

However, he never underwent a shoulder reconstruction of any sort. Tippet has & well, may he make his own history.

Nothing to do with aboriginality.

Motlop lost motivation at North Melbourne and was sacked. Tried to make a belated comeback on the back of Melbourne's need after Troy Broadbridge's death (and at Davey's suggestion) and was a failure ... because the motivation wasn't really there. Out of condition, and spent most of his one year playing for Sandringham.

Pickett became a liability at Port Adelaide and was sacked. Tried to make a comeback at Melbourne on the back of his supposed "toughness" and it was a failure ... because the motivation wasn't really there. Out of condition and was suspended during the year for getting drunk, before a few belated games then retirement.

And you want to now repeat the process with another motivational problem like Sampi, who thinks he can take another club for a ride on the back of a bit of spin about how he's "got his motivation back" all of a sudden?

We should not be the repository for re-cycled odds and sods with motivational problems.

And you want to now repeat the process with another motivational problem like Sampi

It wasn't my suggestion at all Maurie.

But I do however think that if players want to play - & that they can play - & they can behave - Yes, I think they deserve a shot.

After all, Byron Pickett wasn't exactly horrible. He just did a few silly things.

Maurie, I usually like your posts but this one has me puzzled.

Have you not lost motivation at some point in your career? Sampi is young, unlike Motlop and Pickett when they came to Melbourne. He should have his career in front of him. He is a first round draft pick.

Yes there is a risk involved, just like there is in everything decision made by a football club. But how high is the risk? Chris Johnson is the trade I proposed, perhaps we could get him in the pre-season draft? Not sheep stations.

Sampi is a risk but the reward could be great. He says he wants to play and that is enough for me. Now that 'the teacher' has arrived at the club there is every chance Riley can turn Sampi around.

But maybe your right, Motlop and Pickett failed so why bother? <_<

unfortunately for Beamer his true value may never be realised due to his niggling OP.. Theres a reasonable argument to be had that he's worth trading. Some wont like it.. such is life

It would be interesting to see what he's worth to other clubs, but i doubt that the MFC will trade him. He just loves the club so much.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
