Does anyone know how many he got?? I lost count when he was at 39 or so ... and that was about a minute into the last qtr.

Where was this all year?

He had 42. The most interesting part was that Paul Williams actually said they wanted to try him off the HBF, much like a Shaun Burgoyne. Me thinks Bails gave some specific instructions to make some assessments from tonights game - there would have been some ticks and some big crosses.

It was a very good move, even if he didn't have an opponent and even if nobody cared about the match.

If it was Bailey's instruction, then I'm very happy indeed.

Now if only TJ could learn to be accountable going the other way...

i wonder if scotland was on trapper n just decided to both go solo?

They didn't say who his first opponent was, but his opponent in the second half was Marc Murphy.

Thanks. I thought Trav was terrific.

Yes he was and he is my fav player however i hope when melbourne assess if he playes with us next year isnt based a lot on round 22. He does this often, has peaks and troffs and in my opinion will never be worth keeping. Im up for trading him, regardless of his round 22 stats

He did have an opponent. Who was everyone watching?

He played on Gibbs most of the day. And on Murphy. Not bad players.

Ripper game.

You Goose!

You say he's your favourite player yet in your next breath you want him traded. What in god's name will that achieve?

A fit Trav, like the one we saw yesterday, is a priceless commodity. Nothing any other club could offer would adequately compensate us for trading Trav (except maybe WC Eagles offering Judd or Brisvegas offering Jonathan Brown - both of which will never happen).

There is a difference between someone "playing on him" and TJ actually having an opponent.

Obviously playing half back suited TJ yesterday, but he won't always have that sort of freedom.

I noted with interest the stats in this mornings paper.

TJ : 42 possessions - 10 clangers

Heath Scotland : 41 possessions - 1 clanger

the final vs adelaide where he nearly single handedly won the game is to date one of his best....

is without doubt our best player - silky smooth skills and excellent vision.. he makes players run for him by using touch, etc...

yes he turns the ball over now and again but he is trying things whcih in a better team would look good....

a fit travis johnstone is imperative to 2008!!

I just love his smooth pick ups, sweet as fakes and amazing kick.

He is the AND 1 Basketballer of footy. Anyone see his handball to jones in Neitas 300th, totally faked out two people. Then yesterday at one point on the flank he picked it up, casually took a step back, waited forsomeone to try again and side stepped for a kick. He is all class.

Ive often thought about Johnstone being traded. But when you think about it would be pointless as he is at his peak of his football career. If he can keep his injuries down next season he should be very valuable for us. I don't think we would get a better player in return unless you are getting a younger player like Brendan Goddard

Agreed, he has a heap of composure.

According to the Footy Record yesterday, Travis Johnstone's kicks find a target only 68.9% of the time (the league average for midfielders is 73.7%). By comparison, he's not that much better than Godfrey (64.4%), about on a par with Moloney (67.4%) and Jones (67.8%), and well behind Cameron Bruce (71.1%). Seems to counter the myth that TJ is a wonderful, accurate kick.

For overall disposal efficiency in 2007, Travis is the second worst at Melbourne (71.8%), only in front of Colin Sylvia (67.9%). Even Godfrey is 75.0%.

Difference is, TJ is kicking from impossible angles, tight situations and with alot of pressure. The fact he gets half of his kicks off his boot is what makes him so talented.

You don't see Johnstone in the positions often of taking a mark and kicking backwards to a free man.

Godfrey is handballing to someone when he gets the ball, has no idea what to do with it so gives the ball to TJ and Johno is forced to do something amazing to just get the disposal off. Those efficiency stats don't mean anything on game day, if your team mates get you in a bad position you can't help it.

Trade travis johnstone and i wont go for melbourne anymore

How does he get the other half?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
