Darren Jolly coming home?

Featured Replies

Says so in this article.

Sydney Swans are chasing Brisbane's Cameron Wood because ...

"The Swans may need to recruit a ruckman as Darren Jolly is considering returning to Melbourne."

I assume that's Melbourne the city and not the football club  as I believe his likely destination will be Carlton which not only has the $ but after Sunday night will also have the draft power.

And to think that we ripped the Swans off and got pick 15 for him!

Dunn > Jolly

The Swans have since recruited Spider because they have little faith in him... is anyone surprised that the he wants out?

Massive chance to go to he Blues who are desperate for a ruckman. I think the dogs would be sniffing around too.

Highly doubtful he would return to the Demons, although with Neale leaving anything is possible.

Id probably take him back if he wanted too.

Better than Jamar.

Jolly would likely go to the Blues. Don't know why anyone would wanna do that.

Hmmm! Now let me see. Jolly = Premiership player; Melbourne = 1 ruckmen neutered by the introduction of the circle, age and lack of height and not a lot else. Very smart list management! I think you are going just a tad early on the call that Dunn will be more valuable than Jolly.

Jolly was in the right team at the right time.

FCS, Shannon Motlop and Steve Armstrong have medals around their necks and are still ordinary players

Yes Rhino, ordinary premiership players, as opposed to ordinary players!

Glad we agree on the ordinary.

BTW, he probably cost them the 2006 flag. Its why they got that tattooed bogan Everitt.

But still has one more than Whitey's likely to win!

But still has one more than Whitey's likely to win!

Hardly a gauge to say one is better than the other.

BTW would you have cleared the reigning AA ruckman at the end of 2004 and kept Jolly? What would you have taken for him? And would Sydney have been able to afford White if Jolly, a fringe ruckman went for pick 15?

I hope Darren does come back to the Demons but I would be less suprised to see him in a Tigers, Bulldogs, Blues, or Bombers Guernsey...

Jolly has never been a first choice ruck and he never will be, it's just ridiculous suggesting otherwise. He is though a pretty decent as a back up one, but it seems he's beginingto overstate hsi own abilities. I wouldn't mind him playing for us but with everything that's happened between the two parties I doubt whether it will happen. My preference would be for the club to develop our own kids.

Agreed he'll never be a first choice ruckman, the Swans learned the hard way when they realised after last year that he wasnt.Once Ball retired all his shortcomings were re-exposed. And we laugh all the way to the bank as we get to look forward to Lynden Dunne carve out a career for the next ten years, while Jolly will languish at Punt Road or Princess Park. We defintely did the right thing by trading him away for a first round pick.

Who cares if someone is a Premiership player? Byron Pickett was a Premiership and Norm Smith medallist, Peter Vardy a premiership player, none of those players brought us success just because they were on our list.

I loved Vardy.

Yeah Vardy was probably the best pick-up from another club we've had since I've been a supporter since 93, just ahead of Ingerson.

Maybe the debate shouldn't be about Jolly returning to the Dees, which I don't see happening.......

But about what it would take to get Cameron Wood. Just a thought :) !!!

Thats a big call, what about Nick Pesch

You gotta be kidding me. He was well past his best, played a few good games but didn't have much of an impact.

How do you rate Jeff White as a pick-up?

thank you scoop!

I was amazed to read that post and was thinking how about White!

Rhino, I never said one was better than the other. I wouldn't have traded Jolly and I would have increased his game time at the Demons after 04. I have never rated White - he has a reasonable record but has really only had 3 standout seasons (98, 2000 and 2004), which isn't enough for a bloke of his ability. Our rucks have been bordering on the pathetic since Whitey's AA season - and don't talk to me about AA being a recommendation on a players standing in the game. There have been some shocking AA selections over the years, including David Grant (who we recruited and was disgraceful). One good season can make you an AA and yes would have been happy to trade Jeff then as I would now. Jolly is a good back up ruck, better than both Johnson and Jamar. We would most likely have got a top 10 pick for Whitey as a 28 yo then - would have been ok with me. For all the good Whitey has been in the past three seasons, I don't think he has been in any way demonstrably better than probably half a dozen other rucks in the comp. Would the Swans have taken him? No, because his style of play is loose man/link - they have Goodes to fill that role. They recruited Jolly because they needed a body player to back up Ball and it worked a treat. Great recruiting, great management of the list. We got Dunn, could be a good player - I hope he is, but atm Jolly is way ahead!

Stephen Powell was a much better pick up
