Brad Green must be chosen to captain Melbourne.

The hype is Brock Mclean but the choice is Brad Green.

He tries his guts out, especially this year with morale down. He handles the media and speaks like a true captain.

I just really wanted people to see this article incase they had not yet.

he has done welll this year..... i still think bruce is a big chance..... but green has done everythin he can to give it a crack

mate you have lost the plot. absolute frontrunner IMO. Look at the games we realy needed him, big games, interstate games etc he is one of the first to go missing. not a naturally tough footballer and we can't have captains who cannot be relied upon.

He plays like "aeroplane jelly", & would teach the kids the same way.

'08 James Mcdonald

'09 Brad Green

'010' + Brock Mclean

or a rotational captaincy.

What is the point of mca for a year if ur gonna put Green in anyway?

Green has been pure guts this year running with the flight of the ball, start rumbles on the ground to amp himself up. He has been one of the few performers.

Mclean this Mclean that.

Lets give him a few years to learn the game.

At least Green knows it and can concentrate on the team. Mclean is just a kid, he still needs someone to guide him for the time being.

I would say Green has been serviceable in the second half of the season. Where was he early on when it counted?. Saw him play a sensational game against Adelaide courageously marking in packs but these are few and far between. Can play strongly on occasions but far far too inconsistent. One of the key reasons we look a million dollars like last year then when things get tougher, he and others go missing.

As long as blokes like him are in the leadership team, we will have problems. Would much rather have Mclean, Jones, Robertson, Neitz in leadership roles who put in.

I saw Green stand back too many times on Friday night and have seen enough. Why do you think things would change because he has been ok for a month or two.

Trade him for 2nd round draft choice I say.

I think Green would make a great captain. But why has Robbo been overlooked?

He probably has about 3 years left in him, after that Mclean or maybe even Jones could take it on.

He's our best media performer, loves the club and has stood up when the team hasn't and won quite a few games off his own boot. He's been struggling with injuries over the last 2 seasons and was dropped from the leadership group, so I don't know where that places him.

As for Bruce, he's a great player, but I'm not convinced he gives everything to the club. McDonald does and plays like a captain, but he strikes me as being a bit too quiet. Does he have the leadership skills?

Mclean has said all the right things, and up until 6 weeks ago was a lock. At the start of the season he was just behind Judd as the most damaging player in the league, so maybe we forget how good he was for us last season, but I still think he's about a year off.

So for me, it's either Neitz for another year or Robbo or Green. But I still think Mclean is the long term choice, he has all the attributes you would want in a captain.

How can you say that ROBBO is more of a team man than Green.

No one is out for number 1 more than Robbo, he does not always put in, he dives for free kicks he can kick 5 one week and the next have his mind set on a speccie rather than getting a strong mark and goal.

Im sick of this Mclean stuff. He's just a kid. He whinges everytime a free kick is given (not leading by example). But I don't blame him for that cause he is just a kid. Let him learn the game on the big stage before you throw him the job of leading an entire team in such a scrutinsed sport. He wont handle the pressure, not yet. He is going to be fantastic, a superstar!! Going to be.

Jones is also far to young to announce the pressure of a captaincy.

Neitz has said he would like a year not as captain.

None of thos 4 should be the next captain. So who else? People will throw Mac in. He can't do it, what if he begins to crumble with age, I remember a few years ago people said Yze should be captain, but he got a lil older, a lil worse.

Mac is getting a lil older, will get a lil worse.

Trade Green, Trade Bruce, Trade Johnstone.... Thats all the whinging I ever hear.

We could get a 2nd round pick for our start players WOO HOO that sounds like a fantastic idea.

This second rounder might just be, might just be as good as them, maybe better.... really?

maybe maybe maybe. However its a weak draft so their is a chance not..... hmmm, so we will trade a star player. For a 18 year old kid who might be a strong player, or a decent player, a solid player or shithouse.

Out of the 60 kids that get traded we may get that one smokey like we did Bartram.

Well I don't know about everyone else, it seems people wanna trade these 3 for a possibly good player in the second round. Thank god no one here runs the club. Our best players would be 2nd round draft picks.

Lets trade them for possible Nick Smith, Luke Molan, Steven Armstrong, Aaron Rodgers, Michael Clark. Hey we could get the new Paul Wheatley with another pick 20.

Woo hoo, they are bound to be better players.

IMO Green should and I hope NEVER will be captain of Melbourne. He typifies that group of Melbourne players that are not hard-enough, and are absolute front-runners. We can't have these players our captain, it's bad enough having them run around embarass us week after week, (although I will admit he has been better of recent) but he is no where near captain material.

Mclean is my preference, or James McDonald deserves it. JM is one of the hardest working underrated rovers going around.

However I don't think the captaincy is as important as our next coach, our trades and picks, and our preseason...

From what I said above in this thread.

Mmclean is still a kid. Needs to learn the game before he can captain.

Well said YM. He has completely turned me around this season. I've lost count of the gutsy marks he's taken this year. He has my vote. I'd like to see Carroll up there too.

i can't see how this article highlights why he should be captain. same rubbish, meaningless words he's drivled out in his frenetic media schedule all year. if he plays like he did against the crows this week, that will be a reason, to couple media contribution with killer team play

I am sure he means what he is saying but i have heard Green say these words before-He is a good player and a beautiful kick, but i don't feel he has the Captaincy "IT" factor. Look at Richard Vandenberg at Hawthorn-what a forgetable Capt he has Been. Give it to "Macca" Next year as a Badge of Honour-he puts in every week. Groom McClean or Jones to Follow

how can you say he's not hard enough at it, l don't know what games you've been watching but Green lays his body on the line when he plays. l've seen him take some great marks backing into packs, you only see him running through the centre, have a good look before casting dispersions buddy. plus McLean is nowhere near ready to be captain, he's hardly had a touch all year due to injury and expectation so NO, Brock's not ready, Juniors 31 years old

I have noticed quite a few people say that Green would not make a good captain.

At the same time they haven't mentioned anyone better...

James McDonald is not a captain.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
