Former Carlton captain Anthony Koutoufides will announce his AFL retirement today following a celebrated career spanning 278 games.

Koutoufides, 34, is understood to have aggravated a hip injury during Saturday's 10-point loss to St Kilda.

With the 14th-placed Blues well out of finals contention, Koutoufides has decided to retire, effective immediately.

He is a two-time Blues best and fairest winner and was also one of the stars of the club's most recent premiership in 1995.

Koutoufides will officially announce his retirement at a media conference at Princes Park at 12.30pm (AEST) today.

Good luck Kouta. A class player whose skills were a joy to watch. Shame you played for 'them' :-)

Kouta to coach the Blues whilst also doing his apprentership as assistant coach at the Demons and Bombers.

Kouta was quoted as saying, "yeah I know i'd have to work a 140 hour week, but if there's one retiring player who can move straight into a coaching and dual assistance role, it's me, Kouta."

I know you were being funny, but I wonder who'll succeed out of Kouta, Voss, Buckley or Hird as coaches?

Best of luck for the future Kouta. You have played very well in your time and whatever you do go and do it

Kouta was an absolute champion in 99 and 2000 until he hurt his knee. That event deprived him of some key votes in the Brownlow.

Ask any Carlton supporter: they regard Woewoedin with loathing, calling it a chocolate brownlow (their comment, not mine)

Me, watching Kouta at this best was always a treat. Pity he wasn't around in the 2000 Prelim against Essendon.

Biffinator.

If Woewodin didn't win the 2000 Brownlow West would have. Not Kouta. And I'm guessing not even Carlton supporters would refered to it as a 'chocolate Brownlow' if that was the case.

Congratulations Kouta on a terrific career.

I have a framed signed Kouta jumper I picked up at a silent auction about 7 years ago for $100.......the frame itself is worth more than that.

Will it go up in price now he has retired?

Only Problem with Kouta was he played for Carlton, and i trully hate those lying cheats. So i could never appreciate his talents as he was wearing that foul Jumper.

Sorry ut i hate carlton. The Idea of them recieving a Prioraty pick this year makes me sick

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
