Found something for ya. Timestamped at the exact spot :)

Thanks for that!

Interesting, never knew that there was a R D Barassi trophy awarded between 1965 and 1972.

Where is it now, @layzie, do you think/know?

Such an elegant piece of silverware just gagging for resurrection!

Demons vs Blues - logical choice for mental health awareness, I would think…

Demons vs Blues - logical choice for awareness of the mental health of the “supporters”, I would think…

Good bit of kit wasn't it!

I think it's a no brainer if they aren't naming the premiership cup after him. One of the highest profile transfers in history and set the tone for things to come in the modern game.

Me neither.

He would have been playing for his own trophy 😄

Yes indeed, he played 50 games for Carlton as player/coach between 1965 and 1969.

I'm probably in the minority but I don't get footy's fascination with these Mickey Mouse trophy and medal presentations for what amounts to regular home & away games. Their low point would surely have been the Drink Drive Bloody Idiót Cup that Footscray and Richmond used to play off for when they had the same sponsor. Surely they all get thrown in the back of a cupboard and forgotten about the very next day.

I'm not against the idea of a mental health awareness game, but if I were Carlton I'm not sure I'd want to be involved purely because of the use of the word "blues".

But to go in another direction, as I've said many times before, we should be focusing our attention on building a proper Melbourne v Sydney rivalry. The two biggest cities in the country, which already have a rivalry, should be able to produce an annual game which rotates between the two cities with input from and promotion by the cities' respective Lord Mayors, business groups, tourism agencies, etc.

He decided to move us into the other rooms because they're bigger & we can do more, he also decided to put the songs on after each goal to get more people to come to games & provide entertainment.

I know he didn't come from a football background, but you know what brings people to games, the team playing well, winning & playing good football which we are doing. We don't need the other stuff

Agree winning and playing well is most important but marquee games also add to marketing .

The biggest game in NRL is the State of Origin (this is easily promoted as the game is effectively NSW and Queensland) despite the success of Storm and their attempts to bring NZ and New Gunieu into the fold that State of Origin will remain. We Melbourne should leverage off that by making Melbourne V Sydney Melbourne V Brisbane as state of origin events. Melbourne v Adelaide and Melbourne v Perth would also be promoted

As the oldest club and the owners of the MCG we could easily build a significant marquee, and also entrench Melbourne into league structures.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
