A real heartfelt speech by Robbie’s brother Tom who had me close to tears about one of our all time great players and a wonderful human being. By the way, Tom also played at VFL level and was quite modest in not mentioning that he was also a Demon. He once kicked five goals vs Collingwood on the MCG.

Tom has a son! Sadly he did not get footy skills of his predecessors but he's a great musician 😄

This is incorrect! Tom has no son, but one daughter!

Hoping the club amends the biographical information on the website which refers to Schwartz as “0ne of the competition’s foremost defenders” and Robbie’s son (nope) Tom receiving his award.

AI or work experience student? Should still require a bit of proof reading.

Yep. That would also prevent 'Schwarz' being spelled incorrectly. 😁

A story about Hassa. In early 1959, my father brought home a new black and white television set (it was well before colour came in). On our first Saturday morning, I watched Veall’s World of Sport and the interviewee was a young recruit from Merbein who had come down to play for Melbourne. Only problem was that he had a broad country twang and I couldn’t understand a word. Thankfully, he improved in that regard to the point where he spoke well and advanced to great heights in business as well as footy.

I worked with Hassa for a while in the 1970s, when he was a public ‘face’ of a Federal Government initiative known as the ‘Advance Australia Program’. Apart from the the fact that he was an ex Dee, and a champion fella, I remember him as someone who came close to breaking my hand with a crushing and prolonged handshake when we were introduced.

You have quite the way with words, Fencie

Maybe try something like this on for size…

“I think you might be mistaken, DP. I believe Tom doesn’t have a son but does have a daughter.”

See? It’s not that hard 😉

Unrelated: I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but Jeffo’s obvious improvement in form started to appear around the same time as he met his girlfriend. Interesting, huh.

Well, I can't remember the exact family tree but Robbie was my friend's uncle! I'll trying to subtly find out the exact familial line when I next see him in Melb... and blood type and any other info that may be required for this forum 😋

Of course the big announcement tonight will be the unveiling of Demonland’s new Platinum Player sponsorship kindly offered to us by the club as a result of the retirement of Steven May. We’re just waiting for confirmation of the sponsorship. Stay tuned.

Couldn't announce it on the evening because the confirmation of the sponsorship only arrived this morning but we are pleased to announce our platinum sponsorship of a young bloke called Kalani White. Welcome aboard.

This week it’s Casey Fields on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Next Monday it’s at Gosch’s, but that’s subject to change

Dang. I wish they would stop changing the times, I'm down in Melbourne at the moment. Was looking forward to going to training tomorrow.
