Pickett’s ball movement is sublime, some very fancy footwork.

Tholstrup definitely looks leaner; agree with previous observations.

Chaplin: “as soon as the ball comes back (into the forward line) we move with speed! Move with intensity.”

Current exercise is a full ball movement exercise.

Fritsch just slotted a pearler from the boundary.

Jefferson with a lovely pass to JVR who was sprinting at full pace. JVR looked far quicker to an I’ve previously noticed, though I doubt the offseason has made any difference.

Chandler’s kicking has stood out for me, some lovely passes that have hit targets in the f50.

Constant encouragement from the line staff to “get to the cones”.

McDonald being used as a linking player outside of the D50 along the win. Being told to “get forward”.

Almost end to end (from half back) drill Red vs Blue bibs.

When red are attacking the order of the day is very quick ball movement with lots of forward hand balling to players running.

When Blues bibs have it’s a lot slower and more controlled movement of the ball back to the other end.

JVR looks remarkably more confident marking. Taking quite a few nice marks at full stretch.

That was my usual reaction to watching us this year.

Encouragement, leadership and voice from XL is astounding for such a young player.

JVR continues to impress with his pace, led most laps comfortably for his running group.

Heath already looks fully integrated and one of the boys already.

Langford wearing #4; also looks slimmer than last season.

Interestingly Fritsch playing more on the wing/half back as a link player on the wing utilizing his kicking skills.

Could just be for lack of numbers and personnel as the two key (only) forwards at either end are JVR/Jefferson & Kentfield/Heath.

Cos that woked out so wel last time... 😆

Yep! I have fond memories of leaving the ground to get a Mr Whippy cone at half-time. 😉

How's Kosi? Did he have a good break? Is he raring to go for preseason?

He’s great. He’s full of smiles and super pumped. Two of his sisters, his little brother and little nephew were here, visiting from the Pilbara region. His sisters told me that Koz loves the MFC and despite all the talk of him leaving and the homesickness thing (which they said is totally overblown), he’s happy with us and his little family is settled here.

Kozzie’s little brother and his nephew didn’t engage in the convo until they heard I’m in the cheer squad and then it was on like Donkey Kong 😁 We’ve made plans for when they come to the ‘G at some point next season. They both wanna sit with me and I’ve promised them they can hold up Kozzie’s giant head, however, despite Koz being their brother/uncle, they were both more interested in being on a flogger 😅

Im guessing the nephew's pretty young. When he sits with you it should be a great memory for him.

Yes, Chase is about 12yo and was genuinely excited at the prospect of sitting with the DA.

Kingy introduced me to Rhett, our new Casey head coach. He’s a lovely person and is really keen to “get cracking” next season. I told him not to get too attached to Luker since he may not have a lot to do with him next season 😝

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
