I stand to be corrected but I dont think we had any games in 24/25 with both absent.

Brave New World 🛳️

Automatically based on nothing more than a new coach and a fresh game plan in addition to personal changes I think we can easily account for

North

West Coast

Tigers

Bombers

Carlton

Port

Pies

I think we can hold our own against the

Saints

Swans

My friend made the point that Curnow won’t get the space at the SCG that he’s used to at the G. No doubt they have some guns but they’re not an automatic top 4 -6 as some have them.

I think we’ll surprise a few and finish anywhere between 7 - 10. I really hope we draft Latrelle Pickett.

In the shorter term, new coach and fresh game plan are negatives.

I'd be surprised if we see any substantial benefits from the above before 2028, but heh.

Apologies for my sieve like memory, but over the last few seasons, did we play any games without both Tracc and Clarry on the park?

Did Clarry play all the way through Traccs injury in 24’?

Clayton played 15 games in 2023, 21 games in 2024 and 22 games in 2025 but there was a significant drop off from when he was racking up disposals ranging from 660 - 754 during his golden years.

We’re going to finish bottom four, if you think otherwise, you may be delusional.

$100 says we won’t.

Yes indeed. I think it’s going to take a season or so for a whole new midfield group to find cohesion together. Excited to see the growth over the year!

We still have 13 Premiership heroes in our side even if a couple are in their twilight years, we still have a solid core of players as a starting point. Add Chandler, Turner, Steele, Jiath, Mihocek, Langford, Windsor, Lindsay, Tholstrup, Heath, Van Rooyen, Adams, AMW, Howes, Kentfield, Culley, Melksham, Laurie, Jefferson & Johnston. Add in five new players in the draft and you can see the bones of our next team starting to emerge.

Can Steven King and Co re-ignite the fight the never give in attitude, the team first belief within the group to defy gravity and the downward fall, to hold the line and start the climb back up the ladder. We will have some great kids to develop and replenish the team and with another good draft ahead of us in ‘26 and a bit of a war chest to further recruit for need And Steven King and Co are the real deal we can turn this battered frigate back into our 2021ish destroyer.

I’ll take that (but make it a donation to the winners choosing).

Great call E.T, I chose Orange Sky. I don’t think they’re over there in WA but they are in here in Sydney and Brisbane. They have a number of vans which are equipped with washing machines / dryers and some have showers providing a free service for those experiencing homelessness.

Alannah and Madeline Foundation for me.

Add to that it's a midfield group who will include younger players - who are going to take a while before they're able to hold their own.

Will need a couple of seasons.

Sure. But over the next 2-3 seasons we're going to be losing a LOT of first-22 talent: May, Melksham, McDonald, Gawn, probably Viney, Lever, Steele, Mihocek.

That's a lot of shoes to fill, especially as quite a few of those are A-graders.

Yes probably May, Milkshake and Macca next year, Vines and Mihocek end of ‘27 then Max, Steele and Lever in ‘28. We already have replacements on the list for half of these and we will get three runs at the draft and trades to cover the rest.

I’m feeling pretty confident bing181. Tracc/ Claz and Max our huge outs, they are the three that will test our recruiting skills.

Final 10 Baby!!

Certainly gives teams in the 9-12 range something extra to fight for, jeez I hope we can work our way into top 10.

something to keep us interested but unless you finish top 6 there’s no chance of a prelim

Yep. Realistically I think 28’ will be the year we seriously push into finals. Just gonna enjoy the ride until then, I hope, haha

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
