NON-MFC: Trade Week

IMO Gold Coasts offer for Petracca is looking weaker with Hawthorn and Sydney's alleged offers for their respective trades.

Can only add pressure on them hopefully.

Suns offer is better than the Hawks imo

picks 7 and 8

vs

9 and ~16 and a kid who can barely get a game

Hawks will have to give up a decent player if they want Merrett

9, 16, (13&16ish) plus a player plus 2nd rounder

We get 7, 8 (11 &12) no player and send them the most valuable second rounder there is.

how do you know there are no academy or father sons next year?

16 will prob be in the 20's surely?

Probably.

I still think we should be holding onto 24 and should even be squeezing out at least a future 2nd rounder from them if we're sending them Petracca and later picks their way to match their top 5 academy picks.

Fox footy is saying the trade reported by Morris is different to the one reported by The Age.

Nine’s Tom Morris reports:

  • ND 9 and,

  • F1 (2026) and,

  • 2nd round pick (2025/2026), and

  • Hustwaite

The Age reported a

  • ND 9 and,

  • F1 (2026), and

  • Either:

    • 2nd round pick (2027) + ND 62

    • OR

    • Hustwaite type player and swap of later picks

Don't know which is right ... would love Morris to be wrong 😁 but the GCS pick offer for Petracca is better than either of those even allowing for a pick going back to them.

Yes Luci, that would have confused poor Tom.

The Hawks arrogance is breathtaking. One good pick, 2 average ones and a plodder. Refusing to trade a best 23 but wanting A graders is why they are a bunch of [censored].

And why they’re a non starter for Humphrey this year

At least Sydney got it together and gave Carlton an offer worth thinking about

Bombers on the karma train after 20 years of pulling the same stunts.

Hawks play a 'no holds barred' game at trade time. Renegged on a deal with WCE in 2024. Courted their captain. Courted Ess captain.

And they wait until 24 hours before the deadline to give Ess what is essentially a pick only deal which they could have tabled a week ago. Deliberately timed to squeeze Ess into giving Merrett up cheaply.

Low life tactics!

I hope there is footy karma for them in the coming years.

Is the deal Carlton knocked back the pick 9/F1 plus 2 players?

I believe so.

They also knocked back 3 First Round picks from Geelong.

Interesting

They will have to take something today. Charlie is gone and has virtually said so in interviews

Maybe just want to save face with supporters that they tried their best?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
