2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

Featured Replies

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

He had some good moments at Casey but, after two years of development in the system, he didn’t seem to be going anywhere. And it was always going to be hard to break into the AFL side given who had first dibs in the ruck and even the main back up ruckman couldn’t get a game.

Wishing Will all the best in the future.

Fair assessment WJ. Will showed development in his strength and fitness plus he was honing his ruck craft. Unfortunately his around the ground game didn't match that.

Our selection of young developing ruckmen in the last 10 years or so has been dreadful surely the worst in the AFL.

And our trading for experienced back ups (Schache, Fullerton) has been even worse.

Which is odd considering you'd expect someone like Max Gawn would be pretty handy to learn from.

No doubt Max would be a great mentor for ruck craft, but the Brundy experiment showed that, as great a ruckman and captain that he is, he doesn’t seem prepared to share much ruck time.

Jackson was a notable exception due to his unique physical form and his talents.

From the clips of the 21 GF sidelines, Max was more than happy to shed some ruck time as the bang, bang, bang unfolded. Perhaps because Jackson was the only co-ruck that he truly respected??

The great man does really need to start helping plan his own succession - maybe Heath is the guy, or Kalani??

Fish has a new gig (apologies if this has already been posted)…

“Will Verrall has officially been picked up with the South Adelaide Panthers in the SANFL next year.”

Thats great news Ghostwriter he has returned to SANFL Panthers, I really hoped that he would make the grade with us but after three years just didn’t make it, as Tarax Club highlighted his general ruck work had improved but his around the ground play just didn’t cut the mustard. I think Max Heath has replaced Will and Cream and we now have time to fully develop Kalani’s body and craft.

Good fortune to Will - and many thanks for trying to help OUR club.

Didn't work but I hope you find success elsewhere, and have enjoyed having "some learnings" from the greatest.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

Before Sunday, the last time the Brisbane Lions had walked onto the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they celebrated the pinnacle of the sport - an AFL premiership secured in emphatic fashion for the second consecutive year.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
