Codesports which is an online offshoot the Herald Sun has an an article entitled "Lauren Wood’s Top 50 AFLW players leading into season 10". (I can't find a link for non subscribers but it will probably end up in the little paper later in the week).

There are three Demons in the list but not one in the top 10.

The Melbourne players are -

11. Tyla Hanks

14. Kate Hore

48. Tayla Harris

The top 10 at this stage before the bounce of the first ball are:-

1. Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne)

2. Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide)

3. Monique Conti (Richmond)

4. Ash Riddell (North Melbourne)

5. Ally Anderson (Brisbane)

6. Emily Bates (Hawthorn)

7. Eliza West (Hawthorn)

8. Charlie Rowbottom (Gold Coast Suns)

9. Chloe Molloy (Sydney)

10. Georgie Prespakis (Geelong)

Good to see the recognition for Tyla. But Kate? Shoulda been higher.

lauren pearce is clearly one of the best rucks in the competition and easily in the top 50

i'd argue tahlia gillard is one of the best key defenders in the game and should be in there too

no liv purcell in the top 50?

AFLW Dees have been underrated for years. Injury hit hard last year and missed out. This year the team needs to stay healthy to be a chance. There is plenty of talent and blend of youth and experience.

Eliza West wishes she was as good as Kate Hore.

My Tip Eliza Mac will rocket up this list this year. And I’d love Banno to go up a level or two with some consistency.

Pearce too injury prone for the top 50 these days.

Gillard very close, probably injuries and a dip of form last year costing her.

Liv Purcell absolutely top 50 and Chappy too. Chappy not being mentioned by now in this thread shows how underrated she is!

I wouldn't have Shell Heath as I'd go with more skilled players but you probably couldn't pick 50 players before her to field a side either.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
