so the f what? - As long as they were appointed because of their ability, what should it matter? Do we choose players from the draft that only barrack for the Dee's? You only seem to appear when you want to stick it to the Board. And even that's ok if you have a valid complaint - but you don't this time, so this only makes you look petty.

What should it matter? You're absolutely right - ability is key, but we are talking about just 8 people with ability. Surely from a membership base of 40,000 adults, 8 people of ability (already red and blue) can be found?

I’m starting to find this thread so contradictory that I can’t remember who said “doesn’t matter who they support as long as they are the best in class” to “yes it does matter they must have red n blue blood running in their veins”.

Yet and I say Yet what calamity’s have our Board perpetrated on us in the last four years. I’m all ears, seeing how poorly they are being discussed on DLand we must be in a financially disastrous situation, they are all Dunder heads, I use a term on the Jai Scully thread, pump the brakes.

Let’s hear your specifics and mention who made the blunder, don’t hurl abuse at a group to suit your narrative, or point of view or anger and frustration, leave that to the press including Caro, etc, etc, etc.

Footy boards are unpaid gigs same as the presidency. I'm suspicious of people who aren't really into footy and aren't Melbourne supporters who go for seats on the board. There are people who would use such positions as networking opportunities.

For paid positions like the CEO you expect people to be professional so who they supported before hand doesn't matter.

But but KC you are casting aspersions, I want names and misdeeds to support the veil of negativity, throwing mud does stick in the minds of those that are angry frustrated and wanting to use big brooms to clean the place out Or even torch the place. Based on what exactly, it smacks of The Mob syndrome. As RDB said give me facts(disposals) and I will shut up.

I don’t know anyone at board level, who are you referring to D Rev??

The board information is publicly available. If you look up who was on our board in the really bad days, that may give you an idea.

Fact No. 1 on the list - perhaps THE most important job of any Board - appoint a CEO, and have a succession plan for the current one. We will finally have a non-interim CEO almost 12 months after the last one departed.

I understand Fact 1 Harvey, but is Paul the best man for the job on a long term basis? Only time will tell, we have an interim CEO in place who has the confidence of the Board.

But not sufficiently to have given him the job??

Odd situation really. Very Melbourne

And the majority of members voted for the status quo. 🤦

It's very interesting how elections are presented. Also what candidates can and can't do... and on and on.

Im not too fussed where the CEO comes from. You want acumen over pedigree.

I don’t disagree but the comment about Guerra taking pot-shots at the state government recently didn’t bode well on the acumen front when we know he’ll be grovelling for money for a home base in less than a month.

Thats a fair comment.

I haven't said he's the best going around. But he's ours... luckeeee club 😉

Paul Guera Grovelling, don’t think that would be in his bag of tricks, have you read his resume JF?

I'm not. I'm just giving you my view of one of the requirements I feel is important for those roles. I don't know enough about the background of our current board to have a strong opinion there.

Without any real understanding as to how the mfc is operating. Could it be that the current CEO is that invested in the club they and he know he will be there in any roll to help the club, so he fills the gap for 12 months till we find someone with a skill set we require (possibly to get the HB done).

I actually think there’s an interesting debate to be had here.

Is being an MFC supporter a necessary prerequisite for being a board member?

Is there something to be said for targeting the best in class at governance irrespective of prior allegiances? Or, alternatively, is that more appropriate for the CEO and other such roles but the board is where we want MFC people who have genuine care for the club?

I'd also like to know whether it is usual across the league. Perhaps it is something that happens a lot we just don't know about it but it doesn't feel like it passes the pub test.

What are the benefits to being on the MFC board to a non-MFC member? Access to the top end of town? MCC?

Regarding the board - I’d consider myself a nuffie who attends every week but feel a complete and utter dislocation from the admin of the club. It’s very Wizard of Oz, at times you’d question if they’re even real.

I’m certainly disenchanted with the way the club has been run but I can hardly say ‘board member X has been a complete bust’. There’s very little transparency around their decisions or the reasons for them.

The board feel like a faceless black box who make decisions with very little accountability. When it comes time to vote none of us know them and so the establishment picks get elected, they drink their own bathwater and we go through the cycle again. And we nuffies who turn up every week are given a pat on the head and told to ‘make some noise’ and get no real insight into how the club is run. FRUSTRATING

When you dig right into it deegirl, the only thing that this club needs is to stay competitive for our last three games and start winning on a more regular basis in 2026 and beyond. I’m pretty sure that Pies, Lions and Cats fans couldn’t care less who their boards are as long as they keep winning and remain solvent.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
