The Bye week has turned my attention to other important MFC matters, mainly the gameday MFC Mascots (and history of them etc). Maybe the Demon Army can help me out here.

I haven't really paid full attention to the mascots on game day as i am not a kid/nor do i have one.

Is this current lot as follows

  • Checker - standard

  • Chuck - younger mascot

  • Cheeky - Even younger mascot?

  • Daisy - Is she still as active now that Daisy is elsewhere?

There's also

  • Flash - How active is he?

  • Clarry ? - There was a Mascot Academy gimmick in 2020 which was basically a zurich advert and there was a Clarry mascot. Has he been seen since?

This seems like a lot, we could almost field a AFL-X team with them. Will

Before then we had Ronald Deeman (the red demon with a huge chin)- has he made a nostalgic appearance anywhere since he was removed? He stopped in 2011, when is that considered retro?

I do feel Ronald Deeman has the slight advantage on the newer ones as he's red and less human. But understandably he may scare kids more than the current lot. Can't send him to children's hospital for example.

did we have anything before Ronald Deeman in terms of on-field mascots?

Definitely had a mascot in the 80s looked like the "ruckle" teddy bear toy from that time

I remember him getting into a fight with another team mascot, heads got ripped off

No idea about the various movements of the mascots. However, Ronald Deeman remains the one true mascot of my heart haha

He missed too many leg days at the gym.

We use the term “Gameday mascot” when referring to the kid who gets to run through the banner holding hands with a player.

As for the adults in costumes who are mascots, I never take notice of their names. I just feel bad for them when it’s 30+ degrees and they can’t sneak a quick drink without taking the head off which would probs freak out little kids.

Lovely work, Roy11!

My heart needed some warming today, Sydney seems to have stolen Melbourne's chill!

I thought Charlie Spargo was our mascot.

He was, until we got done for breaching child labour laws.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
