You can if the player chooses to retire. The club won't force him off the list, but he may have told them he isn't up to AFL anymore and wants to go back to WA.

Anyway it's all speculation at the moment.

Not sure on this, think they take up a list spot as clubs have been burnt in the past. Something like this happened when Castagna retired from Richmond half way through pre season

my understanding is this is correct

the lists are finalised and any changes - e.g. retirements, cas-related suspensions, etc. - thereafter the player effectively remains on the list until the next list lodgement period

I'm pretty sure that if it comes out that Kentfield has decided not to pursue a career any further, then the club places him on the inactive list which means this opens up a list spot for us.

He can't be off the list completely until he is officially delisted and paperwork is lodged through to the AFL which doesn't happen until the first list lodgement at the end of the year.

I could be completely wrong.

Just get George in the list pronto

…. Or someone else will.

The things we know are that he hasn’t been at training for weeks at a critical time of the year for a young player, we have three train on players with no list spots available (why would we be showcasing players to other clubs if we had an interest in them) and he’s probably behind JvR, Turner, Johnson, Petty and Jefferson for a KF position.

For mine, what’s as telling as the things you mention above is the fact that Luker wasn’t in the 2025 official team photo which was taken yesterday. He was the only one absent. It’s undeniable that that’s huge. IN MY HUMBLE FLIPPIN’ OPINION.

Okay, idle speculation but I think Kentfield is off the list and one of the three train on will be selected in the draft.  My pick would be Roy George.

Other observations. Sestan worked very well off half back, he's a very good kick. McAdam was a star in a lot of the drills.  If he stays fit we have something.  At one stage Windsor had the ball running to goal.  Lingers decided to run him down. Did manage it despite Duke going at 85%.  Windsor and Kossie, as Scoop said, stand out with their physical attributes.

Roy George continues to impress.  Does some special things.  I was on his bandwagon at the end of last season but I am now.  He's got some special attributes.

I disagree with WW.  The match sims are not all that physical.  It's tackle with care and little contact in the air but Tmac might have a word with JvR.

Addition: had a long chat with Kingy, was really approachable and happy to talk.  He's a big fan of Windsor going back "because you don't get enough of the ball on the wing". He thought as a team we had the greatest highest and lowest variance.  He had a long chat to Trac, I love to know what he thinks now.

That’s always a possibility as it is with any player but it’s been for a while now. I chat to Kolt a fair bit and oftentimes he talks about him and Luker living at Geoff Porz’s (how it’s working out etc.) but Kolt hasn’t mentioned anything about Luker for quite a while now, and there’s no way I’d ask him why that’s so. I just sincerely hope Luker’s ok. He’s just a kid really.

Apparently bad case of pneumonia over Christmas break and still recovering with family in Perth. But back soon.

Why would anyone feel silly? In the absence of a reason people are gonna talk about possible reasons. It’s called being a human.

Yeah you'd think so..

So now that the club has officially announced the reason why he's been missing its a good lesson why we shouldn't jump to conclusions and think of the worst the proper facts come out.

Poor kid alright.. pneumonia is a pretty serious illness and I hope he takes all the time in the world.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
