Having traded with GCS for pick 2, I was surprised that we then bid on their player at that pick ...

...so much for the theory of 'deals' when trading!

Is it sort of an unspoken agreement that clubs won't do that with a pick traded in like that? Just trying to understand why it was a surprise and what the purpose was.

Big wraps on molly. Amelia sounds like she could be a steal

Nice to have draftees who are friends as well. Important for young ones!

It was a surprise to me as, like you I thought there was an unspoken agreement not to especially if you want to trade with them again.

Very risky to blind side them if we indicated we wouldn't bid so I assume GCS weren't surprised.   No idea what the purpose of us bidding was.

I thought there might have been some purpose to this that I was missing! If there was no agreement, could it have been sort of on principle or because we could? I'd like to think we wouldn't go against an agreement, so maybe there wasn't one. Anyway, I'm just trying to understand the process better but maybe no answer to this one!

The only thing I can think of is if, in regards to Havana Harris, we are are "marking her card".  In other words, we have let her know we rate her very highly, so should she ever decide she wants to leave GC she just might consider nominating us as her preferred destination. 😉

Gold Coast had picks 19, 27, 30, 41 & 46. My understanding is that if any team bid on Havana Harris then GC had to match the bid within the next 18 picks (they pretty much get a one round discount). So if any of the first 8 teams with picks were to bid for Harris they were always going to have to cough up pick 19. In other words it didn’t really matter who bid on her. It also explains why they didn’t mind giving up pick 2 for Mithen.

We must rate Havana since we may have got her and missed Molly. In the words of Camila Cabello ‘Half of my ❤️ 💙 is in Havana’.

AFLW bids must be matched by a pick within a round (basically up to 18 lower) so by bidding at 2 we forced GC17 to match with their 19 rather than potentially their 27 if she somehow didn’t get bid on until 9, which I think was very unlikely.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
