Simple answer, why get yourself beaten up in the media, by the supporters etc etc, just go back to being a supporter and enjoy the footy again, that is what I got from her speech at the B&F

I think that might be happy clapper thinking Saty, but I hope you are correct. Another thought might be that she could see trouble ahead ( court case(s), internal review) and decided to fall on her sword now, rather than have the club face more scandal?

Consider at stages during the season we were hopeless. Games versus Freo both times, last quarter versus Kangas to name 3.

Despite some lousy form during the season, we didn't miss the eight by a lot and in the process lost 4 games by less than a kick. Including one to the eventual premier on their own deck. That despite no Trac for half a season and Clarry being unfit physically and also in the head.

2 of those games go our way and we probably make the eight, but I doubt we get to a prelim.

So with that, there is no reason why we can't turn it around provided all the BS politics is sorted and doesn't filter down to the playing group.

2025 is going to be a big year for a number of players who have been added to our list over the last year or two.

IMO the following players will either show big improvement or be gone by the time 2026 rolls around.

In no particular order:

Kentfield mid year pick who has a summer to get AFL level fit and show reasons to keep him at an AFL club.

Tom Fullarton was bought in as a ruck forward to cover for big max / KPF duties. Has only played a few games that look like he would be a success as a KPF at the top level. With our forward problems in 2014 it is very surprising that he could not get a game. why is he on the list never a better chance than this year but not picked?

Taj Woewoden, has been around the mark for most of this year but never seemed able to cement a place. With Alex B gone a position opens up for him to fill.

Will Verrall, Young ruckman who has not shown more than average ability at VFL level. Put up or begone in 2026. you can only get by on "young " for so long. Other ruckman have been added to the list this trade period it does  not look good.

Mathew Jefferson, apprenticeship has been served at Casey, IMO in 2025 he needs to play a few games at senior level  and show he has the ability to be a regular at senior level. the clock is ticking.

Charlie Spargo, after a full year out this season there have been a number of players claiming his spot some have been ok others not so. Put up or its over Charlie.

McAdam, the most disappointing recruit for some time. Could hardly justify his spot at Casey. Will need dramatic improvement in 2025.

youre wrong about spargo OD. best 22 when fit. has been injured most of the last 2 seasons. will be fine with a good run injury free.

How quickly people have forgotten Spargo's value when fit. He was arguably our most important and effective link up player going inside 50 when we were at our peak.

How quickly some people think people move from pro or against a certain player (usually positive to negative)

I will be happy if Jefferson turns up with arms like the hulk. Still think half of demonland will still not be happy.

He has yet to play a senior game! I would be surprised if his physique  changes much. I think he will always be tall and thin. Has to show a lot of improvement in 2025.

2 gun midfield picks and we kept our current guns.. development of Kolt and Windsor.
This year couldn’t have got any worse, let’s hope 2025 couldn’t get any better!!!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
