Geelong got a good pick out of Essendon for a small trade back last year, I think that kind of move requires a very high level player at a premium position. Essendon did it for Caddy. I can see Richmond doing it for Harry Armstrong but you need to get to the draft and tease a team with credible offers, it’s a rare scenario.

Can anyone tell me if there is there a limit on rounds in the draft if we have extra available list spots?

Say no one went past the 4th round and the last pick in the draft was say pick 85; could we then use P86 as the fifth round and then P87 as the 6th round, P88 as the 7th round etc?

Tomlinson gets a bit of a bad rap, he's almost never injured, never drops his head at Casey, comes in a plays a role when needed. It seems like he's good for "kulcha".

I'd keep Tomlinson if he's agreeable for the reasons you've outlined.  Additionally I think we should be looking to manage May through the season. Steve won't like being rested but if it's sold to him that we want to extend his career by three years rather than three games then it's a win - win

Tomlinson enables us to take this approach. Although if the Pies sell him on the Nathan Murphy role,  he might find that enticing enough to walk.

Smith is neither skilled nor fast. Draper’s skills didn’t stand up at SANFL level.

And the more I watch of FOS - who I like more than Smith and Draper - the more I worry about his inside ball winning and his kicking. His overhead marking is just special stuff, but he might end up a hybrid half forward more than a pure midfielder.

Looking forward to arguing about draftees closer to the date in specific threads I'm sure. Mainly because either way we're going to get a great player at pick 5/6.

I've watched a fair bit of both FOS and Smith live. To say Smith is not skilled nor fast is so dismissive. He's quick around stoppages, low center of gravity, drives the legs. Sure he's not Windsor fast across 50m but he can really move. Similarly to Daicos has ability where he gives off and relocates quickly and always on the move. His kicking skills are just OK. He often chooses to handball to release players and get on the move as an option, but I think his kicking will improve.

FOS has it all IMO. I think his contested work probably needs some improvement but he's going to excel to start with as an outside mid/wing where his elite agility, ability to get out of traffic and make good decisions will put him in good stead. He could develop his inside game more as he builds his body.

This was the Doggies’ whinge recently - got JUH and Darcy but they burnt all of their late picks to do so and believed they had issues with depth down the track as a result.

I think there’s a few levels of speed between Windsor and Jagga. Agree he’s smart, quick to reposition etc. But not sure he’s got the leg speed we’d love to add to our midfield. His hands are very reliable but not on the level of a Murphy Reid.

He has a little bit of everything. I get the same thing applies for Lalor but I would’ve loved to have seems bit more of him playing dominant midfield games.
