adonski 13,280 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 We were keen on the Wizard last year, while not as highly touted, could Hannaford's speed, aggression and X-factor be an option for the presumed Nibbler compensation (pick 25...?) 3 2 Quote
Adam The God 30,747 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 I'd love 4 or 5 picks in the top 40 this year. Guys like Jack Whitlock who may slide or his brother. Hannaford to add to Kozzy, Spargo and Chandler. Lalor or Langford to Oliver, Viney and Petracca. Hynes too. 1 Quote

Lots of options it seems, gonna be hard for them to resist trying to sacrifice next years future first to trade in I reckon 3 Quote

Adam The God 30,747 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Looks like he could eventually go through the midfield to me. 1 Quote
Lord Travis 10,819 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Rising quickly and might go late first round. He's got good intensity for a small forward and would pair nicely with Kozzie. Would love to land him alongside a gun mid at 5. Small forwards can have such a big impact on both scoreboard and defensive pressure. Modern game style is all about speed and they're the role that capitalists on it the most. The last few finals series have shown good small forwards are probably the most influential position on the ground. 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Sorry all. I’m not seeing the frenzy here for Ollie. He looks okay but he’s not anywhere near Nick Watson. I agree he can play some minutes in midfield and small forward. Good energy. Smart. I only watched the first half Rebels v Dragons and only noticed him 2-3 times to be honest. See him as a later draft pick. See how he goes versus Dragons this week and at State Combine listing. Quote

The last few finals series have shown good small forwards are probably the most influential position on the ground. all forwards will capitalize on speedy ball movement. However undersized forward lines will capitalize the most as they prey on turnover and spread. Carlton's duo of Curnow and McKay show you what a functioning forward line could like at the Dees with our current contest and stoppage orientated game plan. So we either look for better quality KPF to compliment our current game style / philosophy or turnover half our list to prioritize faster ball movement with our existing forward line. I don't think there is an in-between here. The Bulldogs present an interesting case study as they have a Hawthorn / Pies style ball movement, however lack any sort of small forward dominance with a Carlton forward line setup. Port have a similarish style to the Dees but probably have more skillful half back line and good ball users in the middle in Rozze and Butters. So a Waterman and Houston acquisition in trade season would on paper improve our list considerably. Quote

DeeSpencer 26,691 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I originally dismissed Hannaford thinking the goals were a bit flukey and his 2km time in the 7’s is a worry. But watching more of him I just can’t get enough. I’d love him at pick 9. Skills - beautiful penetrating kick and nails set shots from 50, functional left foot, handballs really well on both sides Physicality - he competes in the air, tackles to hurt and speeds up as he attacks the contest Speed - bursts from contests and lays run down tackles. He smothers, he keeps his feet with really nice balance, he uses his hips. Might take him a few preseasons but that’s why strength and conditioning coaches make the big bucks. He went in to the midfield against 3 top 20 picks and beat them all at times. 4 Quote

All in all, I wouldn't be taking him. (he's okay, would prefer Hynes) Edited November 3, 2024 by Adam The God 2 8 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 If we had a pick in the mid 20s then definitely Hannaford would be an option. He’s good but others are better. He’s not pick “9” worthy in my view. 2 Quote

Endurance is a big concern, but the talent stands out and from the moment he flipped forward he was dominating games then added an on ball element. Guys with speed, skill and hardness just don’t come along all that often. 1 Quote
#11-TonyAnderson 868 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Pretty mixed highlights to me - very scrappy at times. Not elite from the package above for me. Quote
RedLegs23 1,139 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) Looks to be the perfect genuine 2nd small forward to partner up with Kozz. Defs a hole we need to fill in our F50. A bit of Watson. Bit of Papley. Midfield scope too. What pick is he projected to be in & around? Haven’t heard about him, but looks good. Edited November 4, 2024 by RedLegs23 Quote

Late 1st Round at a wild guess, keeping in mind there will be around 27 (?) First round picks this year post bids ect Quote

The age had him at 19 but I think as long as clubs tick off his endurance concerns it will be higher. I suspect if the draft broke perfectly for us we’d target a mid and an attacking player (likely a forward of some sort). A trade back could be possible if it’s a small slide. It would be a bold decision to turn down talls or another proven mid but I love the talent. Quote
