I suspected this might be the case. Tauru to me seems like a JT pick. If itโ€™s just a message we are putting out & not reality, it could cause North to take him at 2, and we get another mid to pick from at 5.

ย

If Tauru is there at 5 we should take him, ย then a mid at 9, if heโ€™s gone we take 2 mids. No to Armstrong.

Agree if they want Tauru our best position is them not being confident he gets passed our pick 5ย  forcing them to take him at 2. This increases the midfielder options available to us at pick 5.ย ย

My guess is our draft board (minus academy etc) looks something like:

Band 1- Lalor, (?FOS),
Band 2 - Langford, Tauru

Band 3 - in some order ย (?Smillie, Draper, Smith) Allan, Lindsay, Reid, Armstrong

If Langford is gone we take Tauru knowing one of the mids will be there at 9.

But Langford is plan A and Tauru going at 2 helps with that. Then itโ€™s a matter of what we do at 9.

If Langford and Tauru are both gone thatโ€™s when we perhaps get creative on how we get the best combination of our third band of players.

The big plus with Tauru is hes a November birth and his rate of improvement late was huge. He basically playing against everyone older then himself, and if you take Jagga Smith who is a Jan birth, at times 10 months difference which at this stage of a players development can considerable make a big difference.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
