Steven May also makes mistakes and I would fight anyone who says he isn't the best defender in the game.

Juddy is an absolute star in the making. Holding down the best small forwards in the game in his first season just proved that, and his ability to hit the contest at pace and not only defend but also attack, makes him super valuable.

Speaking of which, Howes has just quietly slotted into the best backline in the AFL and not put a foot wrong. Certainly exceeded my expectations of him!

Bowes and McVee have slotted almost seamlessly into the best backline in the competition.
Sure every game won’t be their best but whose ever is?

Fantastic young player but you just gotta take some body at times. Give away the free if you have to but don't give them an easy out. Makes me realise that the game is now being coached to avoid unnecessary contact which I'm certainly not against. There are times though when a body must be connected with.

Speaking of Howes and Mcvee, they look so similar on the ground! I can’t tell them apart at all

I think Maysie would join in the fight.

From his first game against the Doggies last season, there was just something about the way Judd moved and used the ball that screamed natural footballer.

It's clear the coaching staff have enormous confidence in his ability considering he's taking a large number of the kick ins and being matched up on the oppositions gun small forward.

I think he's been great so far this year.

Both Judd and Blake are humble young guys with maturity beyond their years. Cool, calm and collected. So much poise for so little experience. At the first preseason training session I told Judd that as a massive Harmesy fan, I was pleased to see him get the #4 jumper. He responded with an air of humility, saying he wasn’t expecting it and what an honour it was and that he promises to “make everyone proud.” Both these boys are poster-children for our No D***Head policy.

I always feel quite calm when Judd is in the contest with his opponent or looking for options with ball in hand. Great temperament for a very difficult position.

Howes is getting there too!

As a Gen X, I've seen many gun (homegrown) defenders, my favorites in no particular order (Wight would be 1) are: Lovett, Whelan, Jared Rivers, Jetta, Walsh, Wight, Chip, Salem and Garland - I thought he was a ripper, who would have been a Lever/Alir/Blakey in a decent side and heralded as the prototype interceptor. A few others have had good cameos in the men's department, and this is no disrespect to Hibberd/Lever/May who were recruited not grown.

All this to say, I have every confidence that McVee will sit in DEE fence's little pantheon. His calmness under pressure is truly elite, I would make him a sub boat captain (if Trump doesn't torp AUKUS).

Rivers/Bowey every chance to join as well, but recency bias at play

Agree.. change it to a thread of praise, or shut it down.

If you took the time to read the original post you would notice it was in praise of Judd.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
