Nothing to do with this topic, but one of the players has been a naughty boy this off season. Not going to elaborate.

Who, Charlie Watts? I mean, Jack Watts.

Is that a drum roll I hear?  Charlie's good tonight, inee?

Yes thrillseekers, the surnames of all the players in my team can be found in the title of songs my favourite band The Rolling Stones have recorded at some point in their very long career (61 years and counting).

I got the idea for this teaser from @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew who devised one some time back using Beatles songs.

Here are all the clues/hints/signposts in order of appearance:

  • Post #3 - "Congratulations" is a song the Stones recorded.
  • Peter Light - "Shine A Light" is a Stones song and also an excellent doco made by Martin Scorsese.
  • Pictorial clue - This caused a lot of confusion.  It was a reference to my avatar .... Keith Richards.
  • Mick doesn't collect the green stuff - A Rolling Stone gathers no moss.  This is what helped @WalkingCivilWar .
  • WCW's clue was "gimme" (shelter)
  • This may be the last time you can participate - another Stones song.
  • Demonstone - it's obvious, isn't it?
  • longshot listener / loneliest throngs / singleton holster - all anagrams of The Rolling Stones.

Onto the team then, with the relevant songs listed in team order.  (Some surnames match more than one song.)

B:        I'm Free     Sparks Will Fly     Ain't Too Proud To Beg

H/B:    Short And Curlies     Dear Doctor     Heart Of Stone

C:        Long Long While     Paint It, Black     Wild Horses

H/F:    Love Is Strong     Brown Sugar     Jumpin' Jack Flash

F:        Good Times, Bad Times     I'm A King Bee      Cook Cook Blues

R:        Street Fighting Man     Miss Amanda Jones     The Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man

I/C:     Waiting On A Friend     Shine A Light     Sweet Black Angel     Little Red Rooster

So that's it.  My well is dry, the arsenal is empty, there is no more ammunition, I am bereft of inspiration, the creative juices have dried up and I have run out of ideas.  Thank you to everybody who participated in some or all of the 26 brainteasers I have posted over the journey and I trust you will recover from the ordeal and return to mental wellness soon.

What better way to close this thread than this classic from 1964?  Good things happened that year!

I take heart that, as the full title goes, 'this may be the last time'. So, from my bias,

Never heard anyone ever use Jones -jones in this context same as you never hear the word felicity either.

Sth Yarra library has a dictionary that covers every english word since about the 18th century. The vast majority of words are never or seldom used. Trump became POTUS with a vocabulary of only a few hundred words. Has never read a book apparently. All his Trump books were written by ghost writers.

America's biggest con man.

Probably apocryphal, but Frank Sinatra reputedly said, on being presented with a book as a gift, 'What do I want a book for? I've already read one!'

I bet the only book he read was a biography about ol blue eyes.

Well, this is felicitous!

Fittingly for a music related teaser, here is a song called 'Felicity', recorded in the early 80s by Scottish indie band Orange Juice.

Their singer Edwyn Collins later became well known for his hit song 'A Girl Like You' from 1994.

👏 @Bombay Airconditioning and @Allus Monk. Persistence Rules!

It does, I had a few wrong attempts….

My initial take on the Avatar clue was a bow. Then I was thinking they’re blue, they fly and they were protecting their planet from being mined. So I had Blue Sky Mine, Midnight Oil, then Jayden SHORT Memories and Max KING of the mountain. The trail then went cold….

Oh, and by the way, @Demonstone, I'm prepared to hold the fort - or at least toss it around a bit - while you're on what we hope is just a (well-earned) sabbatical.

I need to reassess my life. 😳

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
