To have 70,000 members is a HUGE achievement for the Melbourne Football Club. Make no mistake about it, this is as significant as breaking our 57 year Premiership drought! It is also intrinsically intertwined with our Premiership success.

You win games of football and you play finals and win Premierships, then you will naturally see our membership numbers grow!

This will mean a lot more positive conversations with the MCC and the AFL regarding our fixture and ideally more games at the MCG in the future.

Hopefully we can now finally see a bright future for the Melbourne Football Club!

I didn't like the $30 finals membership drive, but if those that took advantage stay members next year then well done club.

Sponsorship and commercial $ rates are largely based on membership numbers. It has a trickle down effect in a lot of areas. Go Dees.

Funnily enough one of the sponsors is a pet supplies business. I bought a great bed for our dog from them with a nice Demons discount.

70.5K is an awesome membership result. Shows the Dees are clearly on the rise and have broken from the pack of the 'smaller' Melbourne clubs.

The Melbourne name, the pedigree of being the origin club for the whole code, elegant club colours and current highly competitive squad places the Demons in a great pisition to tap into new supporters, which I think is already happening (just my anecdotal observations).

Should be aiming for 75K+ in 2024 👍

The sleeping giant? 😎

Hmm, not sure about that. I think the term 'sleeping giant' refers more to some very large but hitherto quiet supporter base that is about to be re-awakened. Think Richmond from 2017 or Carlton now 🤔

I think many quiet Dees came out of the woodwork in 2021 and now its more a case of creating new supporters rather than engaging dormant ones. We are in a high migration growth cycle and it is the perfect time for the Dees to market themselves to those new to Melbourne, new to footy to get a club to barrack for.

No reason why MFC can't keep building its supporter base to narrow the gap between them and the bigger supported Melbourne Quartet.

On a related note, I recall a great moment at a work training session a few weeks back, when everyone was throwing out an interesting fact to introduce themselves with and the topic was inevitably answered by many (including myself) with which footy team you support.  Small group, but the majority (x2) were Melbourne supporters.  The one person in the group willing to admit they were an Essendon supporter also confessed that their son was swayed to become at Demon for life based on our 2021 premiership and the Bombers being total trash.  This is how it works.  Really hoping Essendon (and Hawthorn for that matter) don't get close to it for another 20 years and perhaps by then  they will be irrelevant with a much diminished membership/supporter base.

I actually think Essendon will be an attractive team to support again if they remain equal top for premierships. It's that sort of history that helps when their current team finally becomes good again. It's the same with Carlton.

My dream is that we can go level with Carlton and Essendon for flags over the life cycle of our current list (ie by the time Clarry and Trac retire).

Win it this year and we're two flags behind them both.

My workplace is dominated by Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️.

Just one more guy I know that goes for Melbourne.

Just rang the Club to see why I had been charged $289 for my Interstate membership (supposed to be $165). Found out the $289 includes my 2024 interstate membership, 2024 AFLW membership AND Kayo for next year as well. Basically it’s a bargain.
