I will be seriously spitting chips if this becomes a serious option.  Brisbane have already said they don't care where it's played, and they said they would be happy with IKON or Marvel.  The AFL want to [censored] around with an unfinished ground then I know they're just stuffing around with this competition, the ground hasn't even got goal posts, let alone food outlets, etc.  It's barely finished, FFS.

I think Adelaide will beat Brisbane this week so it's not going to matter...

We beat North then it's our call.

Which ground are the AFL putting forward?

The article has a pay/fire wall on it.

Springfield.  It's where the Lions train.

given the 50 metre line is butting on to the centre square, it looks awfully small

A small ground is not necessarily a bad thing - it might lead to some more goals being scored.

That said, it's a terrible look for the game to have a grand final played in the far outer suburbs of Brisbane at a partially completed ground.

How are they possibly accommodating 9000 standing spectators? On that basis the capacity at Casey Fields is about 10K as well, with it's five toilets and one entrance.

That will be a showcase for the women's game.(sarcasm)

The tv broadcast will look like a country game. The crowds will be discouraged to attend, if that is where a GF ends up, wow (no glamour in it). May even, negatively effect attendees and interest to, AFLW next season.

The women will have a difficult product to perform in and sell, if they can't get a premier stadium.

At this stage in AFLW development they need the crowds, atmosphere and an exciting build up.

I would have thought Southport Sharks ground would have been a sensible option if the really wanted to play it in Qld.

We'll done AFL. How's that betting scandal going? Clowns

For us it would be...

It would be easier to close down our running game.

I wish I had your confidence, rjay. I can’t see Adelaide beating Bris. 😞

It's not our call the AFL might ask our opinion but they decide the GF in the AFLW.

It will be Docklands or Carlton and either are fine by us.

The ground isn’t even finished yet.

For starters there won’t be any players on the bench… for there are no benches!

They could have milk crates painted in team colours for players to sit on.

Dressing sheds could easily be put in place with a shipping container each.

Goal posts. One wheely bin each for point posts. Two wheely bins placed on top of each other for goal posts.

Gotta make it a showcase event.

I’m laughing at this, but it’s one of those ‘if I don’t laugh I’ll cry’ kinda laughs, since if the AFL insist on Springfield, then Springfield it is, whether ready or not.

If it's out at Ipswich, they should be able to line up some awesome half time entertainment with locals bringing their cars for a drifting event around the boundary line (if they have a boundary and if it's not a rectangular rugby league field we're playing on).

Some ethical issues here for the AFL if half of the cars are stolen although ethics is not usually a concern for them.

They can get the local limp bizkit covers band to play ( I believe they're called limp buzzcut as they're all airforce dudes from Amberly air base)

They could also include a half time dash from goal line to goal line with competitors carrying a stolen flat screen tv.

West Brisbanites love their AFL

obviously ok if it is our ability to be questioned if Brisbane are eliminated.  I prefer Carlton atmosphere would be huge at the smaller venue with 7/10,000 people.

They could do Bogan Bingo

Nothing available in Shelbyville? It’s just next door.

Agree, the atmosphere would be much better at Carton, particularly if it's a good weather day/night

I'm sure I read they were considering Cairns as an option. I know that Brisbane deserve the right to host the GF but the minimum requirement should be that it's played at a suitable standard of venue that will both maximise the match day attendance and provide conditions that are suitable for showcasing the players skills. They seem to have spent the last week looking at every oval shaped park in Queensland in an effort to keep the game up there. If it can't be played at the Gabba or Metricon then it probably shouldn't be played in that state.

Not having concrete plans in terms of a venue is bad enough, but we don’t even know on what day it will be held. I heard tonight at banner making that if it’s in Melb it’s definitely on the Sunday but if in QLD it’ll be either the Saturday or the Sunday. The fact that nothing’s official 10 days out is beyond ridiculous.

Shambolic. Assuming the weekend of the GF was known when the H&A draw was released then all competing clubs outside Victoria should have been told to nominate and secure an AFL standard ground at that time if they wanted to host it. Not an issue for Victorian clubs as the AFL own Docklands Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
