Oooookkkkaaaayyyy, so the women are playing in Carlton on a Saturday arvo. Surely we can sell out that place against another team from the city.

Would be disappointing if this great team had less supporters than NM.

Get there and be a part of something!

Will be having a rare Melbourne CBD (10th wedding anniversary) stay with my beautiful - MFC converted - wife on Saturday. She only follows the men however, but graciously said I can go. It's  so tempting,  but as always,  I put her before all other women - even those wearing red and blue.

I look forward to Demonland reports and the replay Sunday night.

*I'm sure I'll have several toilet stops between 3.10 and 5.30pm Saturday 😟

Have watched a bit of MFC in the AFLW over the last month or so.

The brand is exciting and fun to watch. Helped no doubt by the enormously lopsided nature of the games but gone are the interminable ball ups and scrubby kicks of years gone by.

Will be interesting to see how the competition develops. Attendance levels are a big challenge and I'm still not sure that they have the season timing correct

What I know about girls footy you could write in the back of a postage stamp however this time of the year is very busy for a lot of people. And while you have clubs like Richmond putting a limit on how many fans can attend it restricts attendance.

Oh man, I'd be sitting her down to watch a replay of last weekend's game. It was so good.

A nice swanky lunch somewhere, then a ride over to Carlton for the game and then tappas and cocktails post match into the evening.

You'd have to be on a winner.

Happy anni and I hope you manage to squeeze a preliminary final in there somehow @palace

Thanks Brownie and you'd think so, wouldn't you.  I watched last week's match standing (I couldn't sit) in front of the TV whilst she did domestic duties around me. I constantly beckoned her to see the many special plays during the match (which she did) and I did hear several 'yes dear' comments, which I took as enthusiasm.  Bannon's run even got a 'that WAS good'.

She reiterated today that she wouldn't have a problem with me going and she is sincere. It remains a temptation, so maybe the door isn't shut. Needless to say, if it was the GF the SNAG in me would be 🚀

I'm interstate next weekend, at a wedding pretty well exactly on game time and on a beach and quite intimate, so little opportunity to sneak a look. I will be pinning the scores on my phone, though!

As to the grannie, like everyone else I'm hanging out for city, day (though I presume it'll be Saturday), and time of day. We've got a (rare, dammit) gig on Sunday and the very real need for a practice on the Saturday. Per an earlier post, then, an early Saturday evening at Docklands would be very nice, thank you!

Haha yep. I've got a wonderful wife who was totally rugby union before I corrupted her into watching the Dees. She's been wonderful in supporting the whole GF gaurantee membership thing and buying in with me. I can't blame her for not having the same level of intensity watching games. She definitely does the "that's nice" thing too while doing some crochet or jumping online while I yell at the TV.

You've gotta love any partner that buys into supporting this club even if it's not to the same level of madness.

LOL which season? We’ve had two this year. 🙄

For all the backslapping and own trumpet blowing, the AFL have made things so difficult for the W comp. That it’s experiencing any success at all is due in small measure to the AFL. Imagine how much bigger it’d be if the AFL could get its [censored] together.

End of whinge. For now, anyways.

I have to say first I have not watched the Dee Girls this season but every time I put on a game to see the score ( which is haphazard ) I strike a game like Last weekend. 15 minute mark of the last quarter Roo's vs Cats and the score was 14 points vs 12 points. It was terrible with both teams gathering the ball and blindly kicking  into there forward line only to be marked by the opposition who did exactly the same thing. Now this was a finals match good help me if it had been two poor teams,  I know you will all say I picked a poor game but that is all I seem to  get. I hope you all enjoy watching but it ain't for me I am afraid.

So you're making assumptions about women's football based on watching other teams?  An elimination final no less?  This is Geelong's first finals (in the past they've been pretty ordinary) and North, whilst at times been a good team, finished 8th.  Some argue they're making up numbers in the finals this year. Neither North or Geelong play like Melbourne play, Dees play for possession rather than bombing it forward, and their communication has been outstanding.  In fact the Dees men can learn a lot from the Dees women in that respect.  I suggest you watch Melbourne v Adelaide Qualifying Final.  I'd say it was one of the best games they've played.

I was sceptical at first 'old dee' but believe me our girls are great to watch.

Sure the skills are not at the AFL level but they have really improved.

The sense of fun as well as competitiveness from this group along with the x factor of Bannan and the 2 Irish girls Goldy and Mackin is worth it.

I've never seen anyone in the mens game do what Bannan has done. Her speed over the ground with long strides is simply incredible. The 6 bounce run last week, not to mention the play on goal, the run down tackle from 50+ metres away a few weeks back.

Get on board 'old dee'...

The exciting thing about Bannas is that she's only 20 years old.  She's only going to get better and better and better.

You can see the improvement.

She used to run to the ball and stop, now she's starting to run through it and take it with her.

As she gets better at this no one will catch her.

Confidence is a wonderful thing.  That goal from running around her mark last week is testament to that.  It's so great to see!!

Absolutely Brownie. My wife had no interest in AFL at all until we met 12 years ago. She is definitely a MFC men's fan (she will nervously watch them even when I'm not home) and happily talk footy with anyone. She still struggles with the technical aspects and tactics of the game but importantly can instantly tell you if a free was there or not. Simply, if Melbourne YES, Opponent (loudly) NO.

Also, very early on she developed a hatred of one club and one club only. Geelong. Mention Joel Selwood and you will see a sneer to match Billy Idol and hear language to that rivals Sid Vicious.

What a woman!  😁

After 7 seasons there's only so far that explanation can stretch, in fact in Melbourne's case event longer, given we started doing exhibition matches in 2013.  Melbourne are one of the two pioneer clubs of AFLW.  The club has an attitude of one club.  It's about time the supporters had that, too.

I think the football media really disrespects the individual capabilities of our players and hope we smash the opposition in the next 2 games (I hope that anyway).

An example is this view of the AA team selected from the squad in which I feel we were light on anyway (How Birch didn't get in for one)...only one player in this team.

I couldn't agree more.  They're carrying on like Brisbane are the only club in contention for the cup.

KDF my interest is only passing. This year once October arrived my football interest is low I move on to other sports right now I am more interested in my GD's basketball. As I have said a number of times for those who enjoy the girls game I am happy for you all. Enjoy.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
